I don’t have a particular style in my home. Unless cheap pine is a style?
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 3:15 am.
For years, my style was “whatever someone gave us for free or we got at a garage sale,” so that might explain why I don’t have a style.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 10:36 am.
I don’t have any real particular style since I can’t afford the furniture I really want. In my dream house I would have slightly Gothic looking furniture. It would be all dark woods, wing back chairs and a 4 poster wrought iron bed with a black lace canopy. I am on the look out for such a bed at the moment.
My house mate is often shocked at how when I rearrange things not only does it work out with how things fit but also how it manages to look good too. Then again my house mate IS a guy and at times rather clueless about how things could be set up so I can’t be too surprised at his cluelessness.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 3:48 am.
My husband isn’t good at visualizing space, so when I say a certain piece will fit, he’s convinced that it won’t. Yet it always does.
Gothic sounds cool to me! He’d hate it, though.

I’m very lucky because Other Half and I agree on pretty much everything decorating/style wise. If we have one style right now I would call it country modern. We have managed to blend the two nicely in our home which is good because we are in the sticks! Usually if we differ on opinion I will side with OH as OH is resale purpose driven! That’s a good thing because the for sale sign goes up in a couple of months!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 5:48 am.
I like country modern! Like an upscale country look.I bet it’s pretty. Good look on selling your house. Are you moving to another town?
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:00 am.
We are moving from NC to Savannah, GA. I cannot wait!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:29 am.
Good luck with it! Which is what I was going for in the previous comment, but “good look” came off of my brain dead fingers. *G*

My mom likes the rustic style, even though we live in apartment. Every furniture here is wood. every single flippin’ one. Not that I dislike it, I’m just a more modern type of things myself. She likes the bland thing, not too many colors. Luckily, I have a say in my room and everything is colorful and bright. It’s like a 7 year old dream! REALLY. Full of stuffed animals and fairies and everything pink <3 She can't lay her claws on my stuff. Much.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 5:56 am.
My husband likes more neutrals. Except when he doesn’t. That’s what makes me nuts!
But he does like wood (not rustic, however). I like wood, rustic or more traditional. I’m not a fan of the modern, but I think a lot of younger people are.

Second hand furniture, is that considered a style?
The book shelves are box store specials, the only expensive furniture that I bought is a sofa on sale at the regular furniture store. My bed, curio cabinet and china hutch were gifts from my mom purchased from second hand furniture stores.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 6:32 am.
Believe me, we spent most of our lives with secondhand furniture. The bedroom set we just replaces belonged to my sister-in-law for years before it was ours, and then WE had it for 15 years. We still didn’t get rid of it–we moved it upstairs into the guest room. It’s pretty beat up. *G*
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:04 am.
My grandparents owned a furniture store and I still only buy what style I like. We still have the bedroom suit that we bought when we first got married. We’ve been married 43 years soon to be 44. My son has the kitchen table that my grandmother gave us as a wedding gift. I keep furniture forever. My husband and I always discuss the furniture before we buy it.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 6:48 am.
We keep furniture forever, too! My husband was so excited that he got to use the lamps we’d put away because they were out of style. He had them when we got married 28 years ago (and I have no idea how long he’d had them before that), and now they’re back in style, so he’s very happy that we’re using them.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:06 am.
I guess my style is functional comfy. If I had the funds, it would still be that but more ‘matchy’!
I made my own curtains for all my windows, keep snuggly blankets over both recliners-one for me, one for company- and have filled bookcases in every room.
I have a piano bench that I sat on as a child plunking on the keys used as a side table; a dresser holds my tv and equipment plus hides the messes in the drawers; real paintings on the walls, both family owned and family created. non matching lamps but I like them this way. the living room is earthtones with red, brown & cream striped curtains. the bathroom and foyer are in blues with hydranga fabric curtains. My bedroom has a wine and cream panel curtain and a headboard I made with a big panel of plywood, batting, and cream damask king size bedspread that once graced my parents’ bed in the 70s. I rule with a staple gun! lol
I love flipping through magazines like Style at Home, Country Living and Architectual Digest. rip out the pages I like and make my own idea book in a binder with plastic page protectors. I do the same with foodie ideas too.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 7:31 am.
It sounds to me like you made your own style. I was never good with the fix it up thing. We always had secondhand and used furniture that didn’t match. If I’d had any ability as a decorator, I could have found cool things that went together, but I’m not. So it was wonderful to go in and buy new.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:08 am.
I have no decorating style unless we call it minimalist. We took the pictures off the wall ten years ago to paint and they’re still in the boxes. We’ve painted several times since.
No glass, no coffee tables. Too many boys and dogs. Now that we’ve almost run out of the latter, I have no interest in the former. Since I spend most of my time facing one wall and a computer, it doesn’t bother me.
Luckily IV is in agreement. All he cares about is if things work–as in does the TV turn on and the toilet flush. If so, we’re good.
At least this style has saved me from decorating disasters, unless we count no decorating as a disaster.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 7:54 am.
I want to come and decorate your place. I wonder if I can con Claudia into helping with her awesome ninja like skills?
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 8:36 am.
I think Claudia keeled over at the idea of no decorating.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 9:51 am.
I did.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 10:37 am.
I’m just praying that when she sees my newly decorated house (done without a decorator and my not so great skills), she doesn’t keel over. But I like it! I guess that’s what matters.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:10 am.
That is what matters and I’m sure it’s gorgeous.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:36 am.
I can be conned into anything, Kelly.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 12:06 pm.
Woohoo!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 9:19 pm.
I don’t have a decorating style. I am a whatever goes kind of girl. I do like to change things up once in a while, so I will change the pillows and rugs in the livingroom every now and again. It gives it a sort of newness without having to spend a ton. I do have a lot of dark woods and glass in my house. Not the best with young children because they show every little finger print. Hubby and I usually bicker over decorating, but in the end he usually gives in. As long as I don’t touch his tv room, then we’re good.
I haven’t really encountered any disasters when decorating. Although, I have painted a bedroom and then hated the colour, if that would be considered a disaster?
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 8:25 am.
Well, it’s only considered a disaster if you couldn’t afford the time or paint to repaint right away. That’s what I love about paint. You can fix it so easily!
Now that my house is almost done, I swear I’m not touching it for ten years. Too much work!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:11 am.
I once painted our master beadroom 2 horrid shades of green. I am not sure what I was thinking. Right after I painted we ended up having to sell the house, so I didn’t have to re-paint, but hubby and I always wonder how long it took the new owners to paint over it.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:48 am.
My style is comfy… if that’s a style… Just a word of advice to anyone looking to purchase furniture.. check out the local auctions in your area… You can get some really nice stuff at a really good [read cheap] price… I know, because we sold some of my mom’s stuff at an auction and got peanuts for it..
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 8:31 am.
Craig’s list is good, too, if you don’t mind running around to people’s houses.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:12 am.
My CR will say that, too: clean lines. However, meh is a big cluttered, so that’s not always true.
My favorite is arts and craft, or Mission. We do both like that and are making things over with that as a guiding principle. More a flavor than an actual, recognizable style.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 8:55 am.
Not sure how Hubby feels about arts and craft and Mission. I think it’s not his favorite. It’s weird because with each style, I could see me liking it. I would just want it all to match, which is NOT in style. I like match-y. I’m bad that way.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:13 am.
I’m not sure I have a style, either. I am getting some estimates for some renovation, too, and the person here the other day said, “oh, you like the contemporary look.” I didn’t know that I did. Color me informed
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 9:09 am.
Julia, a girl after my own heart! They keep telling me our style is traditional or transitional. Who knew?
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:14 am.
I don’t have a style. I really think that any style done well, and not too “themed” look good. For example I usually like anything that Candace does on HGTV. I guess she mostly designs in “contemporary” style, which has those clean lines but isn’t modern, and she does it well enough it does not look like a corporate hotel room.
We also have some things we just like a lot, and we mix them all together. I like antiques, but the really expensive ones I can’t afford mostly
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 9:13 am.
I would love a house full of antiques, but I’m not sure that Hubby would. Plus, with an autistic adult living here (and Hubby being a slob), it’s just not practical. Some of our furniture is pretty beat up, because Hubby didn’t care about it and Nick can’t care. So there you go. No really expensive furniture for US.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:16 am.
I like Victorian. Cabbage roses, cherubs, and really tacky things that are gaudy. DH likes modern and contemporary. Sometimes, it is a fight to get what I want, as DH is a great designer. Our tastes just don’t match. We live in a house built in the 1960′s. This means small closets, bedrooms, and bathrooms. We studied the bathroom trying to get more space out of it when we remodeled, but we just couldn’t. But, DH did build a tv cabinet for the bedroom. I call it ikea-esque. He included shoe racks, and lots more shelf space. That has helped out the closet situation tremendously.
I hated the color scheme of the kitchen that DH came up with. He built it and installed it despite my protests. It has taken me two years, but I’ve gotten used to it and like it now. I think you just have to live with the remodel for a while before you start liking it and it feels like home. Hope this helps.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 9:49 am.
I like Victorian, but I’m not sure I’d want to live with it. I just think it’s cool when I see it in a room. I used to like it more than I do now.
I fear that Hubby came out with less than he wanted in this remodel, but since I’ve been living with HIS choices for some years, I figured it was time I got some of what I want.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:18 am.
I have a style. It’s called “mine.”
Seriously, I don’t pay much attention to styles. I buy colors I like that go with other things in the house and comfort is key. The late dh loved contemporary so many of our furnishings were ultra modern. I’ve been slowly transitioning to more earthy colors (taupe and shades of brown and cream with splashes of accent color). I had hardwood floors put down last summer and recently added oriental rugs in deep, rich shades of red and burgundy. Love it!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 10:13 am.
That sounds lovely, PJ!!
We had hardwood floors put in our public rooms downstairs a couple of years ago, and I just love them. I’d have them in the whole house, but Hubby prefers carpet in the bedrooms, so there you go. But if I ever get the time, I’ll have them put in my office upstairs.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:19 am.
My tastes are eclectic. My husbands are very traditional and I don’t always love what he loves. That’s why we have a leather couch and chair in the living room that are all wrong for the space. But he loves them so I live with them.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 10:46 am.
I know exactly what you mean! For us, it’s compromise, compromise, compromise. I hope it keeps working!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:20 am.
Rubbing my hands together . . . a topic I can sink my claws into!
I like most styles, as long as they’re not themey. I really can’t stand themey. Like Madeline, I think Candice Olsen of HGTV goes good work, BUT if you remove one element from her rooms, like change the couch, the room falls apart. That’s a bit on the themey side for me.
In a case of pure serendipity, Big D and I were at the lake house this weekend and I had the bright idea to make a coffee table out of an old door. Big D, ever the handy man, was up for it, so we tooled on over to Habitat for Humanity, bought the cutest old door for $5 and then bought a chair for $3. He cut the legs off the chair, glued and screwed them to the cut-to-fit door, I painted the legs and, voila, we had the cutest (and most indestructible) coffee table in the world. For $8, not including the price of the screws and brackets. We didn’t even paint the door because it was in good shape, just the right level of wear for a Lake Cottage (our style there).
I think the style of the decor should match the style and location of the house. And really good design, to me, means that a room looks good “naked.” In that the proportions are right, the light is good, the floors and walls look good all on their own, without art, without furniture, without help.
Not that I have an opinion on this or anything.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 10:50 am.
Oh, Claudia, I’m SO afraid to have you look at my house. I would definitely have hired you as a decorator, if you were available for hire, which you’re not. *G*
But I think it ended up pretty well. I hope. We’re still working on it, or I’d have you over to see it! When it’s done, I’m going to show it off to everybody. *G*
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:23 am.
I can’t wait to see it!! The most important thing about a room is that you feel comfortable in it, it makes you feel good just to be in it. If you love it, it’s perfect!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 12:08 pm.
LOVE it! I’ve a few questions – what style of door – how many panels? Did it have any hardware on it? What color is it?
I love the Habitat for Humanity store. We picked up an 8 foot x 4 foot double paned, paneled window there for $140 to put in the front of our house. There was a wall that needed a BIG window. The window totally makes the house. Of course, the installation cost us $1500, but it was SO worth it.
I agree that the decor should reflect the style and location (one big reason why I’ll never live in Arizona or New Mexico, lol), and that a well-designed room does look good naked.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 3:28 pm.
Oooh, happy to answer this!
Style: one panel, narrow, old-fashioned door with a tiny brass doorknob (we removed it but kept it) and an old fashioned brass keyhole—the kind that fits a huge skeleton key. We kept that on the door and it’s my favorite part! It’s just adorable. The door was painted in an oil based ivory paint. We kept that. I dry brushed on some white water based paint to cover the raw edges where he’d cut the door down. The door is a soft blend of various shades of white with light beige legs.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 5:18 pm.
I think I love it even more!! I especially love that you kept the keyhole on it. Awesome!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 8:45 pm.
Although I like bold colors, my preferred style is very classic. None of the Victorian fru-fru stuff or the sharp, spare modern stuff. Hubble, however, likes LOOMING furnishings. You know the kind; the couch you’re practically prone in because the seat is so wide, the bed with the solid wood headboard climbing the wall—king-sized, of course. That said, we’ve been married a wee while and discovered there’s much to be admired about an eclectic look. A few fru-frus to soften spare lines, a bright color to offset dark wood.
Sounds to me like you and your sweetie are on the same course.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 10:54 am.
I THINK so. I hope so, anyway. Unlike Claudia, I do like theme-y, but he doesn’t as much, so I think we’re somewhere between a theme and eclectic.
LOL about the “looming” furnishings, though! BTW, we have a king-sized bed, but that’s because we don’t like to touch while we’re sleeping.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:24 am.
I like dark woods, comfort with splashes of vibrant color, and lots of natural light. If I had disposable money, there are some kitchens that I have seen that I absolutely love. IMHO, the key to loving darker woods with a lot of the natural light it brings warmth. I like different shades of greens, too.
Thankfully, unless the hub absolutely HATES it, he usually lets me do whatever I like, that’s affordable.
Right now we have dark oak tables in our living room with sage green recliner, forest microfiber chair, and khaki sectional with throw pillows in dark browns, beige, forest green and mint. Possibly a little boring for some, but warm and inviting to me.
I do like all different style so furnishings, other than the ones I term as sterile. Lots of stainless, lots of clear plastic/glass, no woods… I do like stainless appliances, but I still like the dimension and character that wood adds.
I’ve been ‘voting’ for the different styles that I like on HGTV’s Front Door site for The Doory Awards. They have had some BEAUTIFUL homes they’ve shown. Absolutely incredible! Go and check some of them out. It’s too late to vote for the ‘over $10M’ category, but some of those homes are just wild, they’re so over the top. Loved the castle in, of all places, Fayetteville, Arkansas. The hand carved moldings were gorgeous! I’m such a sucker for that kind of stuff that a lot of people don’t even notice.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:07 am.
There used to be this fairytale looking house in the middle of the suburb I lived in outside New Orleans, and I SO wanted a house like that. Hubby rolled his eyes. He would never go for that.
If I had lived 200 years ago, I would have bought Strawberry Hill in a heartbeat.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:26 am.
Oh, no kidding….gorgeous!!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 12:01 pm.
I am going to go with “comfortable eclectic” for my style. Much of my stuff is influenced by things I saw or collected while traveling with a few heirloom pieces tossed in. I love bright colors and eclectic accents and my mementos of choice are small pieces of art from wherever I have traveled.
I may never win any design awards, but my place usually reflects me pretty accurately.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:18 am.
I bet you have excellent taste, Sheridan. I’d LOVE to see what your place looks like!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:27 am.
I don’t have the finances to have any legitimate “style”. I guess my style is quirky. I collect things that I feel go together, but they never really do, and some of them are sort of off-the-wall things. I am really great at visualizing a room, and I often have a really detailed idea of how I want a room to look (I have dreams for my bathroom, bedroom, dining room and kitchen right now), but I don’t have the money necessary to make them happen.
I wish I was as cool as Claudia! That door-table sounds awesome.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:20 am.
I know, I’m envious of Claudia. She and Tom are great at that sort of thing. I’m really not.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:28 am.
It’s really adorable. I wish I could take a picture of it that would do it justice. I can’t get the right angle on it. I’m seriously in love with this coffee table.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 12:12 pm.
-You’re- really adorable, Claudia.
Posted on April 17, 2012 at 10:37 am.
I am very fortunate that my sister and I have complimentary tastes in most things. We spent this weekend looking for area rugs for the living room, my legs still hurt! We went to every conceivable place we could think of, even Goodwill and St. Vinnie’s. We found a couple at Home Depot but they were special order and we were into instant gratification.Long story short we decided we would have to compromise and order and since we were near the second Home Depot we went in to do just that. Miracle of miracles ! in that store we found the PERFECT rugs! They have a medieval feel in gold tones that match our new curtains almost exactly! And they go beautifully with our rather eclectic oriental/medieval style.Yes we have Buddha’s Kwan Yin, and a knight in armor as well as oriental vases and dragons of all styles. They blend together quite well and they bring us joy, that’s the deciding factor.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:23 am.
Actually, that sounds great!! There’s an Asian flavor as well as an Old English flavor to our furnishings, so I would love that.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:29 am.
We are thinking about putting red lacquer on our coffee table with gold leaf accents, still in the thinking stages though. And I forgot to mention our LOTR stuff also. What’s a home without Legolas, Galadriel, the Guardians of Gondor and an Orc? We also have our guard gargoyle, George.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 1:06 pm.
That sounds really cool! I like the lacquer furniture. I don’t have any, though.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 4:08 pm.
My style has to have a NAME? Sheesh. I’m in trouble in the style department.
I like a mix — antiques with contemporary, jewel tones and neutrals, and all of it surrounding two goofy dogs and a whiny cat. Nope, no decorating talent here.
I still love to watch all of the decorating shows, though. They make me happy. I don’t know why, because I’ll never live in houses like those, but I do love to look at all of the creative ways people — other people — make their houses look awesome.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:35 am.
Sometimes I watch them, if something cool is being done, but in general, I prefer fictional shows. *G*
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 12:09 pm.
I look at everything with the idea “how easy is this to clean, clean under, dust, etc” since I’m the one who does almost all the housework. Couches need to be high enough off the floor to easily sweep toys out from under, or sit all the way to the floor so the toys don’t wind up under it in the first place
I also like a slightly more simple, less ornate style than my husband, but not by much. I tend to prefer Craftsman/Mission styling, while he tends to prefer the more ornate Victorian. With a little give and take on both sides we manage to compromise.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:53 am.
LOL! How hard it is to clean is a very small part of my shopping process, since I hate to clean!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 12:57 pm.
I found a keen storage cabinet that happened to be mission style. Found another one, also mission. If you squint at my bed, perhaps it can also be called mission with a bit of French something. As I look for new furniture these days, I’m focusing on mission (with a bit of French frou-frou to break up all the hard lines).
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 12:02 pm.
That sounds lovely, Carol!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 4:09 pm.
My style revolves around my contemporary but cushy big red leather couch with chrome legs that I spent a year looking for. It is complements that, it can make it into my living area.
Decorating disastres – after a few years living in an apt with nicotine stained white-ish walls (Thank you upstairs crackpot), I painted color everywhere – lemongrass bedroom, Cherokee Rose living room.
My landlord with his adorable, hard to understand accent say it and said “You paint-uh everyting white. Better for you, better for me.” (sic). My reply “Better for you, not better for me. Keep my security deposit and repaint when I leave.”
Sabrina, love your outfit on SEP’s Facebook page – two swell gals having a swell time!! Hope you loved Chicago like I do. Have I mentioned how much I miss it there?
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 1:01 pm.
I didn’t realize you used to live there! For some reason, I thought you were always a New Yorker.
I love Chicago, but we weren’t really IN Chicago. We were in Rosemont. But we did go into the city once, which was fun. This is my third time–Chicago is one of those cities I’d live in with no qualms (except it’s probably too cold).
LOL about the landlord. I’m with you–paint it what you want.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 4:11 pm.
Sabrina, I am a born and raised NYC area person, but lived in Chicago recently for over a year and fell in love with the city of big shoulders.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 8:23 pm.
I have several antiques that I have inherited so my style is a mix of things. We did get a new bedroom suite after 30 years with the old one. We got a cherry wood Mission style set with a sleigh bed. I love it. Only thing I hate is how much the dust shows on a darker wood!
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 1:42 pm.
I love cherry wood–it’s so pretty! I like sleigh beds, but Hubby doesn’t, so we have a compromise bed.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 4:12 pm.
Comfortable furniture plus my long horn cow skull and our deer antlers in the living room and whatever in bedroom…..whether it’s second hand or new with our king size bed. Forgot to add gun cases and our display with John’s and his Dad’s Army DD214′s and badges !!!!! I’m working on getting my Dad’s Army stuff set up also
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 1:42 pm.
So what would you call it–the hunting lodge look, LOL?
It does sound interesting! A friend of mine did her Southwestern house with a lot of cowboy stuff and this fabulous cowhide chair that I thought was amazing.
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 4:15 pm.
Wow I thought I was the only one contending with gun cabinets in the bedroom. DH is an avid hunter. Soo, I have not one but 2 gun cabinets in my room. Decided not to argue since I booted the elk out to his workshop after it darn near speared one of the kids falling off the wall.
Posted on April 17, 2012 at 11:49 am.
I’d love the French Whorehouse if it was black and nude instead of red. Although would it still be a French Whorehouse…?
I don’t have a set style. I have ottoman looking rooms than I have superman logo bed sheets lol
Posted on April 16, 2012 at 1:45 pm.
I like the Ottoman looking rooms. That sounds cool! But Hubby would hate it.

I think modern style looks great in a magazine, but I always think, “Where do they put their stuff?” All those clean lines and minimalist features add up to no storage space. I suppose that minimalists might not actually HAVE a lot of stuff. That’s probably the point, but it doesn’t seem completely livable to me.
Sounds to me like your husband might like Arts & Crafts style, ala Frank Lloyd Wright.

exactly!!!! I want my home to look like the Crate & Barrel catalog but do I need another home where I can access and enjoy my STUFF?

Maybe (he does like Frank Lloyd Wright), but it’s not minimalist he likes so much as traditional. Or so he says. Then he has all these highly patterned things. It’s very odd. It makes it really hard to shop, because he won’t say WHAT he likes, just what he doesn’t like.

I would describe my style as Gustavian aka the Swedish version of Roccoco. It’s pared down, simpler lines – creams, pale blues, greys, green-grey colors with gold accents. Tons of painted furniture – all of it’s secondhand. Some of it was given to us by family; one friend gave me a table that she found on the side of the road; other stuff is from Craiglist and thrift stores. I did buy my sofa new, but if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have bought the sofa and chairs that I saw at an estate sale last weekend.
My dh doesn’t really care about the design. Color does scare him some, but since I don’t do really dark colors, it hasn’t been an issue in a very long time.
I think the design should reflect the house. Although, I kind of like walking into a Victorian home that’s more Modern than Victorian. A room or house with ‘good bones’ is going to look just as good naked as it with furniture in it.

That sounds really pretty.
Yes, it does make more sense to have the design match the house. Which means I need a Victorian house. *G*

I desperately want one of the Swedish banjo clocks. I know EXACTLY where I’d put it, too.
Occasionally, my dh will start complaining about the painted furniture, especially when I’m painting, and I just tell him that my roots (my grandma’s half Swedish) are talking to me, lol.

What I’d really like is the house that my ex FIL owned.. it was a modern Frank L Wright style, with radient floor heat [built in the 60s I think]… But OMG!!! the closet space was to die for!!! honey colored wood throughtout… there was a dish closet in one wall of the dining area and it held something like 4 or 5 sets of china, glasswear, linens – the opposite wall was floor to ceiling bookcase and ran about 12 feet…… Loved him, loved the house… to bad he had a rat of a son…

You may well be in the situation of having to Choose the most cost effective office furniture for your business sometime soon and will no doubt find it can be very hard, as there are just so many different tables to select from. Can I suggest that you check out BurgessFurniture, they should be able to help.

Thanks for making me laugh. Your story of your spouse is hilarious. I tend to manage my decorating projects a little differently. I use the wishlist features in the home improvement functionality in HomeZada (www.homezada.com) and narrow my selections down to three choices then show my husband. This way he knows what his options are and my casually elegant house is designed to both our liking.
