You MUST read the full series of A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE. It is brilliant reading. I’m reading the series & then I will watch GAME OF THRONES.

Those books are so LONG, Mary, aren’t they? But very hard to put down.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:02 am.
No, I don’t watch, but I have read the first four books. Hubble just finished book five, so when I find a loooooooong moment, I’ll be sticking my nose in that one, too. I’m usually disappointed by adaptations, but Hubble’s wanting this one, therefore when the DVDs come out (and they will), I’ll probably be getting them—for him, of course.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 5:00 am.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, Gwyn. The series definitely gets it right.

I have never heard of this show (it isn’t broadcasted on our networks here in Europe) but I probably wouldn’t watch it either. I don’t like books or films like Lord of the Ring, with dragons and other impossible situations.
Recently, however, I saw a two-part series about World War One, ‘Birdsong’ which was absolutely beautiful and romantic – about a young British gentleman who is an engineer and is sent to a factory in Amiens (France) to oversee the new machinery they’ve bought. He stays with the owner of the factory, and falls in love with his young wife, Isabelle (she loves him, too). They run off together, but Isabelle leaves him. Then the war starts with all its cruelty. He survives the ordeal and at the end, finds out Isabelle gave birth to a daughter, which he meets at the end. Such a touching story!

Spoilers, friend, spoilers!

Ah, but the impossibility and imagination of it all is the fun of it, Nickie! *g*
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:04 am.
I haven’t read the books or watched the show. I am looking forward to when some of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s novels are hitting the screens.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 5:28 am.
Ooh, those would be awesome to see, Kelly!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:04 am.
I ignored it as long as I could, but every blog or entertainment news place I visited had a mention or showcase. a few weeks ago I got sucked in and watched the first season in 3 days. Just in time to catch the second season’s start.
I’m now almost finished the first book.
Intense drama and few but hilarious quips most by Tyrion.
Arya and Jon Snow are my favs.
I now hear the theme song while I read the book.sigh. a wee bit obsessed now. I spent a good while last night looking at HBO’s GOT’s store. just to see what is out there.
The other show I obsessively watch is Big Bang Theory! LOVE that show! it so appeals to my geeky soul
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 6:06 am.
I downloaded the theme music, Kathy! Love to play it in the car, but it makes me want to swerve all over the place. *g*
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:06 am.
I like my tv shows. I watch Deadliest Catch, Chopped, The Housewives of New Jersey, Storage Wars, Auction Hunters, Army Wives which has been awesome this season and a few others here and there. Oh and Grimm. Just love Grimm.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 6:13 am.
I’m a Grimmie too, aida! And love those crab fishermen on “Deadliest Catch”.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:07 am.
Dh and I are hooked. Have been since the first episode.
I have not read the books, though, mostly because an hour a week is about all I can stand of such violence, gore and backstabbing!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 6:33 am.
I know what you mean, Deb! After the show’s over I have to sit there for a minute, usually shaking my head and my jaw hanging open.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:09 am.
That birthing scene? Ack!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 12:05 pm.
I started reading the books and am so in love with Danyrys that Ii am obsessed.
Not watching season 2 because I haven’t finished book 2.
It really is a magnificent story!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 7:55 am.
You have more willpower than I do, Barbara. ;->
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:10 am.
I DO watch Game of Thornes and I’m obsessed as well. I was just telling my mom yesterday that it’s the only show where I keep looking at my watch because I never want it to end.
I have not read the books but I’m thinking of listening to them on tape. Both my sons are obsessed as well. The oldest then read all the books and the youngest is on the first.
I also want Joffrey to bite the dust, badly, bloodily and soon.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 8:15 am.
I know what you mean, Lori! An hour isn’t long enough, but I’d probably have a heart attack if it went on for much longer. *g*
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:11 am.
I don’t watch it. Most everyone around me does, though. So, I do hear about it all the time. At first, I tend to boycott things that are hyped so much, but eventually I give in and watch. So, I am sure I will sit down one weekend and catch up on it.
When The Tudors was first aired I became obsessed. I never missed an episode, and went out and bought all the DVD’s. I gobbled up everything I could on Henry VIII, his wives and his childern. It is an obsession that has died down, but I still can’t resist a book or movie set in that time.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 8:47 am.
I loved “The Tudors” too, Amy! I have all the dvd’s. Try GoT — join me on the dark side. Heh heh.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:12 am.
I really want to watch this series but right now I am just getting into Downton Abbey. Just finished season one (I want to KILL O’Brian!) and had a guy friend on FB compare Downton Abbey to Game of Thrones only in the Victorian genre. So, definitely will watch it when I finish season 2 of Abbey. I also really want to watch “Once Upon a Time”…I’m a little behind in my TV viewing.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 8:49 am.
You know, the two shows do have some similarities, now that you mention it, Lisa. Hm.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:13 am.
I am going to post here and say I love Game of Thrones and would like to read the series. But I can’t look at any of the comments because I haven’t seen last night’s episode yet!! Don’t tell me, don’t tell me!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 9:43 am.
No spoilers so far, Julia!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:21 am.
I haven’t read it or watched it, but I want to. I think I’ll read the books first, see if I fall into that world.
This is a very sad time of year for me, the Season Finale season. Every day, another crop of shows has its Season Finale and I die a little more each day.
What will I do without Missing (hooked like a marlin on that show), Awake, Hawaii 5-0, Modern Family, The Middle, The Big Bang, Blue Bloods, Once Upon A Time, Grimm. . . the list seems endless.
ARGH!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 9:49 am.
I’m with you on Hawaii 5-0 and Blue Bloods. Tonight’s episode of 5-0 should be a thriller. Wasn’t BB a good closer as well?
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:29 am.
Yes. BB was a lovely closer, no big drama, but a nice resolution.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:15 am.
I know, Claudia! I weep every week, until I start seeing the promos for “Burn Notice” and “Leverage” — those wonderful shows of summer.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:14 am.
And I just watched Common Law, the premier episode. I liked it! And Suits is coming back. Leverage is a favorite. Psych will be back sometime in summer, right?
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:16 am.
Claudia, when did you start watching The Big Bang Theory? I LOVE that show!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 1:46 pm.
Two or three seasons ago? I can’t quite remember. Once they added all the girls it got truly hysterical.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 6:56 pm.
DD1 got us hooked on the show. I have not made the time to read the books as there are so many Goddess books out this time of year! It will be winter reading as it seems to fit the setting of the show.
I will miss Castle, Big Bang, Chopped, Project Runway and Top chef. But then, summer is for being out in the sun not on the couch!
Bones is waffling on the border of done for me. I read Kathy Reich’s books prior to them making Bones a television show and did not like season one until about half way through. I still like the books better than the show but have now adapted to one not being like the other.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:04 am.
I’m not about to complain that you’re reading our books first, kez. *g*
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:15 am.
Now see, I like Bones better and better by the year! But I never read the books.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 1:47 pm.
My daughter and I used to love to watch soaps together, so Smash has really appealed to our soap loving nature, plus the music is fantastic. Love Jack Davenport….the man could honestly read the phone book and I would need a bucket for the drool.
Plus we loved The Voice, we love Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Storage Wars, Pawn Stars, Chopped, Cupcake Wars, House Hunters, House Hunters International…I could go on! Plus NBA finals are going on and the Spurs and the Thunder are still in it, so we are watching that, and getting our normal baseball fix. Our poor DVR is constantly over 50% full–we watch and delete, only to record more. LOL
We have not watched Game of Thrones, simply because we don’t have HBO. I’ve not read them either. I’m pretty sure I would love it because I love LOTR (and am totally geeked about The Hobbit coming out this year), and I love Sean Bean, so I’m sure I would love this series too.
Another one I would like to watch is The Tudors. I’ve heard that was very good also, but that was on Showtime or HBO also, so we never got to watch that either.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:12 am.
Jack Davenport makes me melt… I am right there with ya on that one!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:18 am.
Sorry, Julie, I lost my train of thought when I read “Jack Davenport”. *g*
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:16 am.
I have not watched, or read, Game of Thrones. Since waking up this morning and checking out the social world you are the second author to be talking about it. Hhmmm. I guess that means that I should check it out sometime. I don’t know why it is but it seems that I always start watching, or reading things well after they are popular. Of course I do believe that I am the last person in the world who has not read Hunger Games. I watch Smash and Revenge pretty faithfully, but I don’t know if I’m obsessive about it. It seems there are many books I would love to see in a series. Unfortunately the shows are never as good as the books, IMO!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:15 am.
Haven’t read Hunger Games and have no desire to see the movie. DD#2 knows me pretty well and says they aren’t down my alley.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:33 am.
Not true about The Hunger Games Kelly. I have yet to read the books and most likely won’t either because I can be a trifle picky at times.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:36 am.
I haven’t read “The Hunger Games” yet either, Kelly. It is on my Kindle, but I just haven’t gotten to it yet.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:17 am.
Oh I’m so glad I’m not the only one! There are certain books/movies that just don’t appeal to me at all. “The Hunger Games” is one of them. My friends look at me like I have three heads when I tell them I haven’t read it. I knew I liked you guys!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 12:25 pm.
Heh!! Not only have I not read the Hunger Games, I didn’t even know that the movie was based on books until my sister told me!! She couldn’t believe that I hadn’t heard of them, hadn’t read them, didn’t just LUUUUUUUUV them like she did!! I opened the front cover, discovered that they are in first person present perspective and put the book back on the shelf. It would be like reading 350 pages of someones Twitter feed. DEFINITELY not for me!!
Posted on May 15, 2012 at 12:08 am.
Haven’t got caught up with Game of Thrones because I cut off my cable channels. I just wasn’t watching them due to baseball season so couldn’t justify the expense. My BFF and I are die hard Walking Dead fans and are in severe withdrawal. I am eager to see the finals of DWTS and American Idol.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:32 am.
You’re a stronger woman than I am, Donna! And I love “Walking Dead”, too.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:20 am.
Love Game of Thrones which I watch with my 18 year old son. I was just thinking I should read the books. We also watch Walking Dead together along with Dh. Can’t wait for the return of that series. Again, I am thinking of getting these books.
Dh and I loved Alcatraz, but they cancelled the series and we don’t know why or how those inmates disappeared in the 60′s and returned today. Ahhh!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 10:58 am.
They cancelled “Alcatraz”, Michelle? No!!!! They need to at least post some spoilers somewhere so we’ll know what happened.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:39 am.
Geezer is addicted and wanted me to watch an episode, so I did (no idea which one) and I was not able to get into it. Then someone told me you have to watch ALL episodes in order. meh.. too much commitment for this rare TV watcher. I might pick up the books, I recently got a little hankering for the fantasy genre again.
I did watch Castle on hulu after hearing about so many on here loving it.. and Nathan Fillion *sigh*
Other than that.. I got nothing TV wise, really.
I might like The Black Dagger Brotherhood as a series, but would be afraid the H-wood machine would turn it into schlock.
There are also a few of the Regency series I think would make fun miniseries (like a P&P type thing).
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:08 am.
It’s definitely a show you have to watch from the beginning, Sheridan. I’d call it a more violent and less noble LotR, though, and so you’d probably like the books.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:41 am.
i’ve never even heard of game of thrones until this morning when Christine Rimmer posted a picture of the yuuummmyyy jason momoa. unfortunately i dont have HBO. but the series i kept up with this season was ONCE UPON A TIME and i also follow THE WALKING DEAD
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:14 am.
I’m with you on both of those, Amy!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:42 am.
No HBO, but I want to read the books first. About 2 weeks ago my favorite bil and I were texting back and forth about Game of Thrones because I wanted to know if he had read them since he’s a big fantasy fiction guy. I was surprised that he hadn’t, but he had watched a few episodes on Itunes. When I get a free minute, ha, I want to read the books first.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:34 am.
So far the books and the series follow each other pretty closely, Janae, and I’m enjoying both simultaneously.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:44 am.
I have only seen bits of it while surfing channels.I figure I am so far behind that I will be doing my usual DVD marathon after everyone else has seen it.
The last time I stumbled on it, within 5 minutes there were 3 very explicit sex acts. Is that par for the course?
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:38 am.
Yes and no, Madeline. There’s definitely explicit sex, but not in every episode. Quite a few boobies, though — I think a 17-year-old boy must be in charge of the extras. *g*
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:45 am.
I keep meaning to read the books, but I love the series.
Someone please tell me that Theon gets his? Please.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:38 am.
Oh, I hope so, Sarah. Theon needs a very grisly death.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:46 am.
I haven’t read Game of Thrones, nor seen the show. It looks interesting. Is the show very serious in tone, or is it more campy like, say, Xena the Warrior Princess?
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 11:58 am.
It’s pretty serious, Susan, with small doses of usually verbal humor (mostly from Peter Dinklage’s very clever character). With some stunning moments of brutality, as well. But it’s very…lush, rich, and well-plotted with awesome twists and turns.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 12:24 pm.
Thanks! I almost always find it impossible to get past brutality. Have to give this some thought…
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 1:34 pm.
I’m enjoying Game of Thrones – although sometimes the dialogue is a bit lame. I’ve read that the show does a better job of showing character motivation. If there was ever a finer illustration of the stupidity of war – this is it. I am recommending SPARTACUS – the first season. The main character did a fab job with this role. It is pretty bloody, though. If you can look beyond the blood gore and sex, it’s a great story
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 12:04 pm.
I don’t know, trudy — the shows goes so fast that I sometimes miss the deeper motivations. The books definitely flesh those out. So to speak. *g*
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 12:26 pm.
Yes, my husband and I watch the show every week. It is our private time together without kids and we don’t answer the phone. We love the show my favorite character was Khal Drago now, it is John Snow & Tyrion. We also love “True Blood” we watch that together also. I would like to see the “Outlander” series by Diana Gabaldon become a tv series or a movie.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 12:22 pm.
“Outlander” would be awesome, Gail!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 12:27 pm.
I do not get HBO.
I used to watch Bones.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 1:38 pm.
Stupid computer.
When I heard that Bones was a book series, I started reading the books. Love the books more than the tv series.
I love Castle and read the Nikki Heat books.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 1:40 pm.
I’m with Claudia–I HATE this time of year. Fortunately, two of my favorite shows are summer shows–White Collar and True Blood. But I can’t believe that Castle, NCIS, NCIS-LA, Criminal Minds, Big Bang Theory, and Bones are going to be in hiatus. Bones started late, darn it!
And I’m really loving the new show, The Finder. I’ll miss it this summer!
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 1:45 pm.
I kept meaning to watch The Finder, also Killers, but never found the time to even DVR them.
Any opinions?
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 6:59 pm.
I love Game of Thrones.I just love Sean Bean. I don’t want to spoil his story for those who haven’t seen the show but he is a wonderful actor. There are some other mighty fine looking men in that series: Jason Momoa(Khal Drogo). Jamie Lannister(Nikolaj Coster Waldau: remember him in Fox series New Amsterdam), Jon Snow(Kit Harrington)and Viserys Targaryen(Harry Lloyd).
I reread all the books when the show started last year: GOT, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows.
My weekly obsessions that I actually watch and not tape are: Once Upon a Time, Grimm, the Big Bang theory, Castle, CS: Vegas & NY, Mike and Molly, and Justified when it was on FX.
Shows I tape are: Glee, Community, the Middle, Modern Family, Bob’s burgers, Law & Order: SVU, Legends of Korra, Young/Teen Justice and True Blood (that way I can see all 12 episodes in 2 days instead of weekly).
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 2:07 pm.
I haven’t seen or read Game of Thrones, no HBO. I’m thinking it would probably be something more that I would watch than read, but you never know when I will get a wild hair and read the books. I don’t watch a lot of TV since I usually grab a book when I settle in for the evening. The TV may be on but once I get absorbed into the book, I couldn’t even tell you what was playing. I do make an exception for Castle and another favortie coming up, So You Think You CAn Dance.
Thanks for the giveaway and picking me
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 2:11 pm.
Sorry for he dyslexic fingers. That should say favorite, not favortie. I guess I just got spoiled with spell check on the big computer.
Posted on May 14, 2012 at 8:07 pm.
I don’t get HBO so no GoT for me. Hopefully it will be picked up by the Canadian station we get through our cable or BBCA like the Tudors was so I can watch it eventially in all its unedited glory.
As for shows I watch religiously, Big Bang Theory, Hawaii 5-O (can’t believe HOW they ended this season!!), Blue Bloods, Once Upon A Time, Survivor, Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, CSI-NY, the NCIS twins, Chopped, Restaurant Impossible, Cupcake Wars, and now America’s Got Talent has started again. Howard Stern is actually not the train wreck that I expected him to be so it should be okay. I DVR some of these and watch some live and most of them I watch with my mother. They are shows that we both like and can watch together.
