Internet Renovation

Guess what–I have a new website! Okay, so it’s not completely new. The content includes a lot of what was on the old one, and it’s still me and my books (and Will and Jane), but it’s a new design and a new format, and there IS some new stuff. I think you’ll like it. Check it out–it has cool polls and a great contest that includes an ARC of my upcoming ‘Twas the Night after Christmas as a prize and even a new excerpt of the upcoming book!

Plus, it contains my innermost, darkest secrets … okay, so it doesn’t contain that, but it still has some pretty interesting stuff, if I do say so myself.

But in the midst of all the confabs about design and content, I found myself wondering if the author website is still a relevant part of the internet for readers. After all, since the last redesign of my site, Facebook and Twitter have exploded, Pinterest has become a great place to hang out, and everybody seems to be talking about books at places like Goodreads and the Amazon discussion boards. So I want to see what y’all think, oh great goddess readers and writers. Here’s a quick quiz that will help you voice your opinions.

  1. Do you ever go to author websites?
  2. If so, what is your favorite thing on them?
  3. Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites?
  4. If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page?
  5. Where do you most often interact with authors?
  6. Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?
  7. What do you think of my new site?

Everyone who answers the quiz will be put into a drawing, and one name will be drawn to receive an Advanced Reading Copy of Twas the Night after Christmas!

go to author websites? Yes!! Often.
favorite thing ? Book lists, author bio and personal note and excerpts, deleted scene or short stories.
repeat visits? Yup got ‘em bookmarked.
latest news Facebook or Twitter ? I see that there’s some new info on FB, then I go to the site for more info. I forget to look at the FB pages so I rely on my newsfeed to prompt me.
Where do you interact ? TGB allows for conversation. FB sometimes but not when the author never interacts with the followers.
ever bought a book based on an excerpt? Yes definitely and I’ve avoided some too.
What is your absolute favorite author’s website? Why? The ones that involve humor but that’s me. I appreciate the author sites that bring you into the world they’ve created but it’s a nice to have, not required. Chech out Courtnet Milan’s site where she give some inspiration behind her stories and her working titles and some free stories that aren’t ready for prime time publishing. Those little extras that you can’t find at the bookstore Rock My World!

Great questions. Hope our answers help you. Now to check out your new site.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Well, it’s a relief to hear that people are still going to websites!

Where do you most often interact with authors? Depends. I have interacted on FB, but I have also messaged on the website.

What do you think of my new site? Looks great.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I confess that I go to authors’ websites a lot to read excerpts so I can decide whether to buy the book. I like excerpts!

  4. AmyS says:

    1. I visit my favourite author sites all the time.

    2. Up coming projects. Booklists. Character info. I like to find out if secondary characters will be getting a book or already have one. The background of the story.

    3. All the time.

    4. Always the website first. If I don’t find what I am looking for there, then I will check out FB.

    5. TGB. Sometimes of FB, but very rarely.

    6. Yes. Especially, with new authors that I am thinking of buying.

    7. I am going there now to check it out!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Hope you like it, Amy! I really like the new design.

      1. AmyS says:

I thought it was great, Sabrina! I really like the book scroll at the bottom. I thought I had read most of your backlist, but saw quite a few there that I haven’t read. I will be keeping my eye open for your older titles.

        1. AmyS says:

Oh, and love the new pic, as well. :)

          1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks! The older titles are all out of print, but I just got the cover for the upcoming By Love Unveiled (out in March 2013) and it’s gorgeous!

  5. Kelly Proellocks says:

I do go to author websites but not as often as I want to yet with other authors I practically stalk their website.
I like to look at blogs, reading stuff about their latest books, if there is anything in an online shop that I want to drool over and stuff like that.
I definitely make repeat visits to favorite author websites.
If I want to know the latest with regard to personal life then it is Facebook because I am one of those people who stalk walls.
I interact mostly on Facebook with authors but I also interact here on this page too.
Sadly I haven’t bought a book due to an excerpt on an author’s website, I mainly buy because I like the author.
I have yet to check out your website but I will do so soon.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Kelly, do a lot of authors provide stuff for purchase on their sites? I’ve considered it, but haven’t pursued it.

  6. wendy p says:

1.Do you ever go to author websites?
Yes! Any time that I find an author that I really love their writing I will locate their website and put it in my favorites so that I can periodically check them to new releases.
2.If so, what is your favorite thing on them?
I like to see what is coming next – excerpts are nice too!
3.Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites?
Yes! How else would I know what is coming soon!
4.If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page?
    Website.
5.Where do you most often interact with authors?
    Blogs.
6.Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?
    Yes.
7.What do you think of my new site?
I like it, it looks very ‘regency’. I like that you include your other pen names under the books, I like that you have seperated the books by their series, I like that you have a news section with polls and visitors can see all of them. Overall, one of the better author sites that I have visited.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Aw, Wendy, you made my day! It’s hard to know what to include and not to include on a website and have so much “stuff” that it gets cumbersome to include it all. But we sure tried!

  7. Tin says:

Do you ever go to author websites?
    – Yes! Right after I finish reading a book, I usually go to the author’s website to find out information about her next work.

If so, what is your favorite thing on them?
    – Excerpts and updates regarding new releases.

Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites?
    – Yes.

If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page?
    – Facebook first to find out that there’s new content and then I go to the website to read the new content. ^_^

Where do you most often interact with authors?
    – Facebook

Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?
    – Yes. ^_^

What do you think of my new site?
    – Very nice. Easy to navigate. The colors are very soothing and pretty.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Tin, I go to websites after I read a book, too. Sometimes I go WHILE I’m reading a book, if only to find out which of the other characters is getting a book.

      Glad you like the site!

  8. Edea Baldwin says:

Do you ever go to author websites? Yes, I do, especially when they have new books coming out or if I discover a new author.
If so, what is your favorite thing on them? I like to read the bio stuff, plus I like to look at the backlists.
Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Yep.
If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? I generally find out stuff on Facebook, or at Writerspace.com. I am on email lists, too.
Where do you most often interact with authors? On a blog like this, or on Facebook.
Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Yep.
What do you think of my new site? It’s very user-friendly, and looks cool.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Edea, I read the bio stuff a lot myself. I like to know where an author is coming from.

  9. Rebe says:

1.Do you ever go to author websites? Yes, I check them out occasionally.
2.If so, what is your favorite thing on them? I usually go to check out the reading order of books in series or to see blurbs for books. Sometimes I check out contests, but I don’t do that very often.
3.Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Depends. If the author has a blog, then yes. Also, if s/he has an upcoming release & posts an excerpt, I’ll read that.
4.If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? I’d probably see the news on her FB or Twitter first.
5.Where do you most often interact with authors? Twitter, definitely.
6.Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Hmmm… no, I don’t think so. I usually only go to a new to me author’s webpage if I’m already interested, which means I was probably planning on buying the book. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a book based on an excerpt.
7.What do you think of my new site? I like the clean background! Very attractive, and it’ll look great on computers, tablets, and mobile phones. Nice! (Plus, I liked all the info on the old webpage.)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Rebe, glad you like the new site!

What I probably SHOULD have asked is, have you ever NOT bought a book because of an excerpt. That might be the more interesting question!

  10. Amanda says:

    1. Not so much anymore.

    skipping to 4

    4. I quit Facebook, don’t do the twitter thing (I’m afraid it will turn me into a twit) and have no interest in “social” networking anymore. When I did the whole FB thing, I would spend time going to author’s sites via their FB posts. Now, I just come here for my author fix.

    5. I just interact with authors here. I got tired of the time drain (though the authors I followed on FB were really cool, and there was lots of entertainment).

    6. No. I’ve read the excerpts and mostly they’re books that I already want to read. So all it does is really tease me until the release date.

    7. I like your new site. Moving pictures and all.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

We’re glad you come here at least!

I had to laugh at your comment about the moving pictures. Is that something that bugs you? I kind of like it, but Hubby hates things like that. :-)

      1. Amanda says:

The movement doesn’t bug me because it is like a marquee scroll. What I really hate are the unsolicited ads on the big sites–like yahoo–that explode in the middle of the screen. I don’t mind the movement on your site.

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

          I hate that, too!

  11. anna says:

Do you ever go to author websites? Sure do.

If so, what is your favorite thing on them? The ones I like have an up to date schedule of events (book release dates, signings, etc), a book list in order and which ones are linked, links to their blog. That kind of thing.

Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Yep.

If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? I usually start with Facebook then their main website. I’m so not a twitter girl.

Where do you most often interact with authors? Facebook then on blogs.

Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Nope. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to an author site to read an excerpt.

What do you think of my new site? The site looks great! I like all of the added features like your recent pins :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Are you a Pinterest fan? I love Pinterest. I am SO going to be using it. And I’m not much of a twitter girl, either, though I do have an account.

  12. Elizabeth says:

Do you ever go to author websites? All the time! I have about 10 that I try to check at least once a week

If so, what is your favorite thing on them? The sneak-peaks and I LOVE it when authors have blogs! I love reading about the randomness in their lives and the issues they have with some of their stories

Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Yes

If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? A mixture of the two, usually I start at facebook and then end up at the website

Where do you most often interact with authors? Facebook, and many of the authors I follow post links to their blog posts on facebook (that’s how I got here!)

Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Many, Many times. Or that excerpt just makes me even more excited about a book I was already excited about.

What do you think of my new site? I love it! It’s very user friendly and I don’t have to spend forever hunting to find what I want.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I tend to interact with people on FB,then go to sites to get info.

Glad you find the site user friendly! It’s hard to gauge that.

  13. cail says:

Do you ever go to author websites? I do, but only the ones that I know are kept updated. I also use it for the printable booklist. Most authors are more active on FB though.
Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? I troll my auto buy list about once a month for updates.
If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? Depends on the author. For instance, JR Ward gives way more info at FB, whereas other authors are more active on their sites.
Where do you most often interact with authors? TGB!
Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? No. I auto buy or buy on recommendation. I’ll usually give a new to me author who comes highly recommended at least 2 books then I decide to auto buy or not.
What do you think of my new site? Going to check it out now!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

They took the printable booklist off of mine, but I’m wondering if I should restore it. Not sure why they decided not to include it this time.

      1. Sheridan says:

Please restore it… I print and save those from authors I like – especially the prolific ones. :D

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

We did–thanks for the input! There’s now a link on the main books page. Hope people notice it!

  14. Jen B says:

    1. Do you ever go to author websites? Yes, I do.
    2. If so, what is your favorite thing on them? I like author blogs and also the book lists and a coming soon section.
    3. Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Yes!
    4. If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? I would go to Facebook for super current news but still check the website.
    5. Where do you most often interact with authors? on their FB page, or sometimes though author sites like this one where it’s a group that have each author blog on a different day.
    6. Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Yup!
    7. What do you think of my new site? I haven’t looked yet, I rushed to answer your questions first :p I’m off to check it now, but I’m sure it’s great!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I have to admit I like FB for communicating with readers. It’s easy to get opinions if you want them, although this week when I asked about my photo, I got people feeling strongly on either side!

  15. Deniece Liza says:

    1. Yes, I do.
    2. I love reading little tidbits about the books.
    3. Most definitely!
    4. I go to all. :P
    5. Facebook.
    6. Yes, lots of times.
    7. Super pretty! I love the color scheme especially. :D

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks, Deniece! I thought it was a good choice for colors.

  16. Renee Pajda says:

I do go to author’s websites to read a book’s description and to enter contests! I’m like a little kid and love to win books! I interact with authors on Facebook. You get to know the author as a person that way and most of you crack me up (yes I “liked” your page a long time ago!)! I’m on Facebook everyday so I get more interested in a book there as opposed to only going on an author’s page periodically. And I have definitely gotten interested in books based on what I read on Facebook and author’s pages and gone out to buy them. What I like about your new site is how the covers and descriptions of your books come across like a slide show. I didn’t have to go find the tab for your books they were just right there in front of me. I love all the covers of your books and that always grabs my attention. Have a great day!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Ooh, I’ll pass that info on to the designers! I really liked the slide show thingy, too.

  17. Tonya Baker says:

1.Do you ever go to author websites? Yes, I visit yours frequently.
2.If so, what is your favorite thing on them? Exerpts! I love to get a sneak peek of upcoming books.
3.Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Absolutely.
4.If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? Even though I rarely visit the page, I do keep up through your Facebook posts, but I go to the the website for info.
5.Where do you most often interact with authors? I chat with you on Facebook when ever I can.
6.Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Yes!

  18. Barbara Samuel says:

Beautiful! I do visit websites, and like a lot of information.

  19. kez says:

1.Do you ever go to author websites? Absolutely.
2.If so, what is your favorite thing on them? Book Lists so I don’t miss one.
3.Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? The better author/sites I visit often.
4.If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? Since I haunt TGB I get most of my news about my favorite authors here. :)
5.Where do you most often interact with authors? Mt Oly.
6.Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Yes.
7.What do you think of my new site? The look is clean and polished. The tabs lead exactly to what you want and are logically thought out. I love your photo.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks, Kez! I recently got new photos done by a woman named Jessica Blakely. She did such a good job! I’m not really that photogenic, so I appreciated it a lot.

  20. Jana Ferguson says:

    1. Yes I often go to authors websites.
    2. Honestly the contests as I can afford to buy all the books I want to read. Secondly I like to read about their “homey” stuff. The things that make them a woman like me. And thirdly I like the excerpts and covers of their books. Let’s me know which ones must go to the head of the line.
    3. Absolutely I make repeat visits have to keep on top of the must read list.
4.For fast headline news I go to Facebook because there is usually a blurp at least. For indepth info I go back to the website.
    5. I most often interact with authors at Writerspace.com chat room. For just a comment then again on Facebook
    6. I almost always buy books from excerpts on an authors website.
    7. Your new website is great. I especially enjoyed scrolling through all the book covers.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I never think to go to the Writerspace chat room. Do a lot of authors hang out there?

      1. Jana Ferguson says:

Usually authors are invited to come visit on a special night just for them. Sometimes more than one authhor is invited. Its pretty informal with lots of questions and answers and there is usually a copy of the authors book given away in the chat room.

  21. Julie says:

1.Do you ever go to author websites?–Absolultely!! I love the Goddesses sites, as well as finding new ones through Writerspace.

3.Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Yes ma’am!

4.If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? I do that also! The FB pages are always fun, and some put up funny photos or quips/quotes! Love it!

5.Where do you most often interact with authors? Here, definitely!

6.Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? I’ve bought several, either writing them down to keep an eye out for the titles, or ordering them from Amazon.

7.What do you think of my new site? I love it! It’s fun and user friendly!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Sounds like you’re just the sort of reader for websites, Julie!

  22. Ora says:

I love checking out auhtor’s websites. I want to see what’s going on with books, contests, book signing tours and blog tours when new releases come out. I make repeat visit my favorite author’s websites. It depends upon how often, for example when I am anticipating a new release and an author hasn’t posted an exerpt yet I will constantly check back as if I can will it to be there.
When I am looking for the latest news on an author, I will generally go to their facebook page (if they have one) and their website. I am not a fan of twitter. I tried it out for a couple months and I just didn’t like it.
I most often interact with author’s through blog tours. I would love to be able to meet more author’s, however I generally have a three hour drive to get to most author signings near me so I generally can’t make them :(
I have bought plenty of books just off the exerpts authors put on their websites. With my favorite authors, it’s just enough that they wrote it. And you are one of my favorite authors :)
I was piddling around your website earlier. I really like it. I did have a problem doing the poll on the home page, however when I clicked on fun stuff I did not have a problem doing there.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Aww, I’m glad to be one of your favorites! What problem did you have doing the poll? Did it not work for you?

      1. Ora says:

It didn’t work on the home page. I had to click on fun stuff in order to do the poll.

  23. alyssa says:

it is so much easier for me to just sum up all my answers. I rely on author’s website more than any other place on the web. i trust other peoples opinion of a book but only an author can convey what they really mean the book to be about. I go to their site to see what is coming soon and when and like to learn a little of them from their news letters. I like to email them to let them know if i absolutely loved a particular book because hey who doesnt want to here it if its so.i often go to author’s websites while reading a book to see if i missed any hints of story. and sabrina…i am going to check out your new site NOW!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I hope you like it! I love to know the behind the scenes stuff myself if it’s an author I love.

  24. Dottie Legatos says:

    1. Yes I visit the websites frequently
    2. My favorite thing on the websites is news on upcoming books, contests, and the booklists.
    3. Yes, I repeatedly visit my fave author’s sites.
    4. For the latest news, I’d have to say Facebook for the snippet, and then the website for the full story, since my FB page is almost always open on my computer. I have a Twitter account but never use it…to confusing & my kids refuse to give me a quick lesson!
    5. I mostly interact on Facebook for the reason stated in #4
    6. Yes!! I’ve bought many books based on excerpts! Keep them coming!
    7. Your new site is great!! It’s always a good idea to do some remodeling!!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Glad you like it! I seem to be remodeling everything this year–my house, my website, my body … okay, not as much of my body as I SHOULD remodel, but still ….

  25. Archer says:

Do you ever go to author websites?
    Yes.
If so, what is your favorite thing on them?
I like checking upcoming books and extras
Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites?

If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page?
    I use fantasticfiction.co.uk the most.
    Hate twitter.
Where do you most often interact with authors?
    Here :)
Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?
I don’t visit authors I don’t know so not really.
What do you think of my new site?
I love that you have drop down tabs and its not cluttery.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I’m not fond of twitter either, though I go there occasionally. And I’ve used fantastic fiction.co.uk a time or two myself. Fabulous site! Glad you enjoy the drop down tabs and the clean look.

  26. Jane Mccarthy says:

1.Do you ever go to author websites?–Absolultely!! I love reading what each author is up to and about their thoughts and the writing process.

2.If so, what is your favorite thing on them? I love the excerpts.

3.Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? Yes, so I can see what is coming soon.

4.If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, where would you go. I have to admit that I love how Facebook just shows me the news I want to hear about upcoming books and contests.

5.Where do you most often interact with authors? Webpages and facebook.

6.Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Actually that is how I find a lot of new authors since I am a compulsive reader.

7.What do you think of my new site? I love the face lift. It is very amusing and made me smile.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Glad it made you smile! The site did need a face lift.

  27. B says:

Okay, let’s answer the quiz! Can I just say I went to the website and the very first thing that caught my attention was the poll to which was your favorite series? And, I have to say, though I love the HOHH, and really liked the Prince series, The School for Heiresses is still my favorite <3 <3 <3 I wish I'd gone on forever!

    1. Do you ever go to author websites?
Yup, I always check them out before I read them! If they have a good voice on their "about me" and "FAQ", they may be worth a read after all :P Then, when I'm reading them, I go back to see their backlist and character connection, that stuff.

    2. If so, what is your favorite thing on them?
About me and FAQ. IF they're funny.

    3. Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites?
    Sometimes.

    4. If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page?
Umm, probably their website, but it's amazing how many of those are just not updated. It's kind of frustrating. Then, I guess I'll just check Twitter to see what's up.

    5. Where do you most often interact with authors?
Twitter. It's easier to interact that way. I'll check Twitter several times a day, no matter where I am, I'll have the app open, I'm compelled to reply to an update, to make a comment. Not so much on FB, though, especially on author pages rather than profiles. If an author doesn't use Twitter, and they're not on one of the few blogs I visit, chances are they'll never hear from me.

    6. Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?
Nope. I buy them based on author's voice. Usually based on a blog post, or their about me on the website, how witty their tweets are. The book excerpts may as well be the last thing I read, considering I know beforehand the genre they write.

    7. What do you think of my new site?
    Cutesy :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Is that good cutesy or bad? *G*

The problem with basing your assessment of an author on their voice is authors are often different as fiction writers than as nonfiction writers. I’m much better in fiction, IMO. I’m not that witty off the cuff. I tend to fall into academic-ese. :-(

  28. Pam B says:

Do you ever go to author websites?

Often, it’s the quickest way to know when a new book is coming out.

If so, what is your favorite thing on them?

The excerpts so I know what I’m waiting for.

Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites?

Yes, it’s necessary to keep track of new books.

If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page?

Latest news is on website, fun day to day on facebook have twitter but don’t use it much.

Where do you most often interact with authors?

On facebook and reading her books.

Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?

    Often.

What do you think of my new site?

What little I’ve explored so far is nice. Easy to navigate.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Thanks for checking it out!

  29. Michele says:

Do you ever go to author websites? All my favorite authors b/c I want to know what they are working on, what it’s about and when it will release and if they are coming to an event near me. I live in Columbus, OH so that is usually a no.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I go to Goodreads, too! I really like it. I had meant to ask them to put my goodreads link in the group of the other social media links, and i may still do that.

  30. Iva says:

1 Yes I put my favorite authors on favorite so I can go there often.

If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? Facebook first. Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? yes

What do you think of my new site? love it! It’s really easy to navigate and you have a lot of information there. Colors and layout are great.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks! Did you know that the post only appears in the newsfeed for a small percentage of the person’s “fans”? It’s really annoying.

      1. SuzyQ says:

Yes, I know. Unless you want to fork over some money and have it show up for number of days. Saw this happening with my business page just after they went public – coincidence? You can ask your fans to go to your page and when you hover over the “like” button, you have the option to check “show in newsfeed”. That way they can see your updates.

  32. Melody May says:

  35. Lois M. says:

    1. Yep, I tend to take a once a month tour just after the 1st of each month to see if there are any new book news posted (and yeah, check out any new contests LOL)
    2. My favorite thing is when there is new book news… ;)
    3. Well, like I said, it’s typically once a month, but if an author posts a note on Twitter or Facebook about a new addition of interest, I’ll go sooner.
    4. I dare say all of them (to a certain extent), but I would be the most upset if the websites disappeared.
    5. Number-wise, not totally sure; I follow some on Twitter, but I probably would guess most on Facebook. Just seems easier there.
    6. Sure! :)
    7. Oh, thank you for being way easier on my not really old at 35 but what the heck, old eyes. LOL I liked the former one, but just really wasn’t fond of the color scheme. This one, much easier. And still pretty. :)

    Lois

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I like this color scheme better, too. And the font is easier to read, I think.

  36. Sue P. says:

5.Where do you most often interact with authors?
    In blogs like this.

6.Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?
    Yes. I like the excerpts.

7.What do you think of my new site?
The site was good. I liked the list of books. I also like the Will & Jane page and the Regency Era page. While this may have been on your earlier site, this is information you cannot find elsewhere.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Philomena, I really need to add some to that Regency Era page. I have lots of knowledge stored up in my head!

  38. Debbie says:

    1. Do you ever go to author websites? I go to them all the time. This is where I go when I find new authors I have never read before. This is where I go to see what is coming up next from my favorite authors.

    2. If so, what is your favorite thing on them? I love to see how they set them up. Believe it or not I think this gives you an insight into their personality. I always look at the bookshelf. In your case, I always look for Will and Jane. Would you consider it weird that I like the two of them together. Just shows that a short guy can get a beautiful woman.

    3. Do you make repeat visits to your favorite authors’ sites? All the time

    4. If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? Web Page!!!

    5. Where do you most often interact with authors? Goddess Blogs!

    6. Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Yes!!! I tend to always look here and read a excerpt before I buy.

    7. What do you think of my new site? Very nice but I do like you in the purple outfit. I think it would fit in with the site better than the cream. :O)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I don’t think it’s weird at all that you like Will and Jane together. But then, I’m married to a relatively short guy (5’8″).

    2. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Oh, and as far as the pic goes, it is on there in other spots. But my publisher chose the cream as the “official” one. *G*

      1. Debbie says:

I went back and roamed around some more. Found the other picture. You look good in purple.
My husband is also short. My 15 year old son towers over him. He inherited my grandfather’s 6 foot 4 inch gene. :O)

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

My son inherited HIS grandfather’s 6′ genes. People usually look at me and my hubby and go, “Huh?” when they see how tall my son is. But I’m the shortest person in my family at 5’4″!

  39. Susan Mallery says:

Great conversation, Sabrina! I’m following it with interest because I’m planning a website freshen-up myself fairly soon. (Not a complete redo, but a new home page and new color scheme.) Yours looks gorgeous! I love the purple at the top, such a rich, beautiful color.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Thanks, Susan!

  40. Solange says:

    1) I visit author websites all the time.

    4) Facebook and Twitter status updates often prompt me to check out author website news. I get the meat and potato information from the websites themselves.
5)I get the most responses from authors either on twitter or on blogs like this :)
    6) Yes
    7) Nice colors, easy to navigate, great content!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks, Solange! I always say I’m going to add to the content (stuff other than new book info), but I keep getting bogged down in other stuff!

  41. Sheridan says:

Oh! The new look is pretty! Easy to read and find things, the colors look lovely. Well done!

I go to author web sites off and on. I like finding new stuff on there, and things that are more than “oh! buy my book!” If I can get a somewhat personal connection through what I am reading on the site, I am more likely to develop a loyalty to that author and buy more stuff. :D

Favorite thing on web sites? Easy to find printable book lists. Then kind of candid photos – authors at play, so to speak.

If the author updates things I visit more often, but if I see that the site is not updated terribly often, I get my book list and am happy.

Latest news would probably be from Facebook – or here for the Goddesses. :)

    I most interact through Facebook.

Bought and avoided.. and also through excerpts on my kindle.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I had some photos on my old site. We didn’t do them on this one because of FB and Pinterest. Do you ever go to Pinterest? I love it.

      1. Sheridan says:

I do, but only for my own use (idea boards, style boards, creative ideas) not as a social tool or to find out about things from others.

  42. Suzanne Enoch says:

I’m really curious to read all the answers. Author websites – the eternal struggle. *g*

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      You’re not kidding. Sigh.

  43. Cheri Champagne says:

    4. If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page? – I’m on Twitter, but I don’t understand it, so it would be FB or their website that I’d go to.
    5. Where do you most often interact with authors? – Facebook.
    6. Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? – Yes. But mainly I’ll read the back of the books in the bookstore or online. But when I find an author I like, I go to their website and buy all the books they’ve written.
    7. What do you think of my new site? – Yes! It looks great :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I’m not sure I understand Twitter either. *G*

    7. What do you think of my new site? Me likey, me likey!!!!!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

ladydawgfan, I can’t believe you’re not on Facebook! It seems like the whole world is sometimes. Which is not always a GOOD thing, speaking as someone who keeps being spammed by single men.

      1. ladydawgfan says:

I’m not on Facebook by choice. I’ve seen too many people lose jobs, scholarships and common human dignity all due to something someone felt the need to post on their wall. Unfortunately, once something is posted on the internet, it is there for eternity, whether or not it has been removed from someone’s Facebook wall. I want absolutely nothing to do with it.

  45. Alisa says:

    1. I visit an author’s site regularly.

If you wanted to know the latest news about your favorite author, would you go to her website or her Facebook page or her Twitter page?
I would go to thier website and facebook pages. I don’t do twitter.
Where do you most often interact with authors?
I think mostly on their blogs and through author chats on yahoo site.
Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website?
    Of course
What do you think of my new site?
I think it’s fresh and new.. Love the new site.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Do you go to individual author blogs? I always wondered how many people did that.

  47. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

I have to be fast so I’m not going to answer in numerical order! I do visit author websites. I like looking up their books, history, etc. If they have a blog I will visit to read their blog. Yes, I have bought books based on exerpts from websites, and I will either visit the authors page or get info from Facebook. Personally I cannot stand Twitter, so I tend to only go there every once in a while! Love your new site too, by the way!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Yes, I’m bad about checking Twitter, too. It’s not a format I like that much!

  48. Claudia Welch says:

Nope, I rarely go to author websites. How weird is that?

      1. Claudia Welch says:

Like it’s a shock, right? LOL

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

It’s scary how well we know each other. :-)

I’m glad you found Nick’s story touching. I probably need to do an update on that. He’s doing SO well!

  51. Janae says:

    1. Yes, I do.
    2. I like the book excerpts because I want to know a little more about the book before I buy it. I’ve found that some Kindle samples aren’t long enough to get a feel for the book. Authors tend to have longer excerpts than the samples.
    3. I do because I like the trivia on the websites about the books – like songs that Julia Quinn listened to when she was writing a book; or Eloisa James’ Easter eggs. I, also, visit for booklists because I want to make sure that I’m not starting a book right in the middle of the series; or to see what other books the author has out there.
    4. I don’t use twitter, but I do visit authors’ Facebook pages.
    5. Goddess Blogs mostly, but sometimes on Facebook.
    6. I have bought books because of excerpts on an author’s page.
    7. I like your website – great colors and easy to use.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Interesting about the excerpts. I had to shorten some of mine due to constraints with the format. But I always assumed that the Kindle samples were long. I didn’t know they were short.

I’d like to put my own soundtracks on the site. I still have to figure out how to do that, but I have one for just about every book I’ve written in the past 8 years.

      Glad you like the site!

    6. Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? Yes, when they’re starting a new series.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Nora Roberts keeps her main site up to date and lags by months on her JD Robb site so…

You know, I love the idea of putting out-takes and scenes that were edited out …. except my editor doesn’t ever cut scenes of mine–just a paragraph or two here and there. So it would have to be something *I* cut, and I’m not sure I want those to see the light of day!

Have you ever bought a book based on an excerpt you read on an author’s website? yes
What do you think of my new site? everything except for the link to amazon and B&N. As a small independent bookstore owner who is about to close her doors for good, I think that the publishing industry and authors are going to regret not supporting local independents much more.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

flip, a LOT of us keep checking to see when the Courtesan series will be continued … we all want Dutton’s book!

Did you see that I have links to Indiebound as well?

I would love to support my local independent stores, but there aren’t any here that I know of, except the one I won’t name that refuses to carry romance. Which is why I refuse to support it.

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re closing your doors. That’s just a shame, and I hate to see it.
