A Good Time Was Had by All

I am just back from 9 days in Anaheim at the RWA National Convention.

Yes, that was NINE days.  As I’m on the board of directors I get to go early.  Whee.

However, because I was there early, and we got all our homework done, I also got to go to DisneyLand.  I’d never been.  I loved it.

I also got to have connecting rooms with Goddess Julia.  I loved that too.  There was wine.  Just sayin’.

I saw all my friends, my editors, met new peoples.  There was wine.  We had a Goddess Party.  Wine.

I presented the RITA for Best Paranormal.  Got gussied up with my pals and took pics.  Wine.

Me and Linda Winstead Jones at the ceremony.

Me, Linda Winstead Jones and Linda Howard in the same place.

Goddess Barbara won a RITA.  And then . . . . She got another RITA for winning a RITA as she was inducted into the RWA Hall of Fame.  Congratulations, Barbara!!!! Wine.

And while I was gone, Reggie got a girlfriend.  Her name is Amber.  Doesn’t he look happy?

So, when was the last time you had days and days of fun?  What did you do?

Hello there, Lori! I’m just back from a trip to Great-Britain. My sister and I have a great time there. First we went to London (hotel rooms were cheaper BEFORE the Olympics!) and were treated for starters to an executive room at the Waldorf Hilton. Now we always stay there, but I’ve never had this kind of upgrade! Can you believe, with your room key you have entry to the executive lounge, and you can basically eat for free there. There’s breakfast in the morning, high tea in the afternoon, and cocktails later in the evening. And then the sales were on in the stores, so we just bought as much as we could for few euro’s. On Saturday evening we went to see Sweeney Todd and spoke with Michael Ball after the performance.
For the rest of the trip we saw two more musicals (Rent and Starlight Express) and bought more shoes and clothes. I’m wearing a skirt by Monsoon right now that I bought for just 25 euro!!!(Normally it would cost around 60.)

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Sounds like a great trip!! I want to go to London so bad. But not now.

  2. kris says:

I’m counting down the days in anticipation of the fun. We leave in 20 days for DisneyWorld for 2 days followed by a 7-day cruise. The problem is I’ve been travling every week since mid-July and it won’t end until mid-Sept. I’m exhausted, but hopefully not too much to enjoy my pending vacation!

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Have fun! I hadn’t been to Disney in ages but I really enjoyed it.

  3. Kelly Proellocks says:

My days and days of fun was when I read lots of books because that is seriously my idea of fun, well that and playing a game on New Guy’s PS3 called Buzz. Buzz is a trivia game and I am fairly good at it, especially with taunting the opposition.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

I wouldn’t mind having days and days of books either. Haven’t heard of Buzz. Sounds like it’s my kind of game.

A couple of weeks ago we had lots of family in town. We had a 3rd birthday party for our great nephew one day and the next day my husbands 50th birthday. We went to the lake several days . Way to much fun was had by all. Can’t wait for the next time.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Several days at a lake and double cake works for me!

  5. Freshechelle says:

Days and days of fun are just 2 weeks away in the form of a 2 part vacation at 2 quiet, serene places – if I get myself together and finish booking it.

    Great pictures from RWA!

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Thanks, Fresh. I didn’t get any of the Goddess Party. :(

  6. RobinRBL says:

Great pix. Love your new ‘do!

I have not had days and days of fun in quite a while, but I’m ever on the look-out for the possibility!

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Thanks, Robin. I hope you find the fun. There is endless possibility.

  7. Sandi in OH says:

Starting tomorrow when my son and his family arrive for a week-end of camping, birthday picnics, etc. Our son’s birthday is Saturday. Our grandson’s is the 23rd and we are going to celebrate it also.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

      Double cake again. Wheee!!

  8. Pesky says:

Awwwww, Reggie and his girlfriend are sweet!

OK…I have to say I’m now convinced your in witness protection. Every time a picture is taken your look is so radically different that I would just walk past you. I never would have imagined you as a blonde…and there you are. :D

I’m off ot my 10 days of fun. Annual Camping trip with the buds. I leave at 3 in the morning tomorrow. WHich is fine with me, the driver is a control freak and I can sleep. Can’t wait!

    1. Lori Handeland says:

      3 am???? Eeek!! Have fun.

I have to laugh when everyone kept calling me Blondie. I didn’t color it and left my white in. Voila! Blonde. LOL!

I probably need to get a new photo, but I don’t wanna.

      1. dbrown3400 says:

        Love the new “do.”

        1. LoriHandeland says:

          Me too!! Thanks.

  9. Julia London says:

I am like Kris — traveling all the time. First 9 days in Anaheim, where there was wine :-) , then Taos, where there will be more wine, then London, where there will be wine AND tea, then New York, where there better be wine, and then finally, Sacremento, where there will be no wine but one very long run. Downhill. I am not paying money to go run up hills.

    1. Lori Handeland says:

You are a crazy woman! Go, Julia.

I would say there had better be wine after running. Can’t you run TO wine?

    2. Pesky says:

If you’re going into NY about 1/2 hour north there is the Hudson Valley Wine Trail.

Bring your friends! That way you can sucker someone into being designated driver. :D

    3. LauraR says:

there are vineyards just east of Sacramento.

  10. Jen B says:

I took a long weekend and went to Lake Placid to volunteer for Ironman LP and register for next years race. Like your weekend, it involved, travel, wine, walking, talking, laughter, wine, hard work, wine…you see the connection right? That said 9 days is a long time to be away.

    1. Lori Handeland says:

My neighbor is training for an Ironman race. She tires me out just watching here.

  11. Claudia Welch says:

    WHINE ALERT:

    I wish I’d gone!!!!

Whine, wine, whine, wine. I missed the best time. The sad fact is that I can’t remember the last time I had days and days of fun. I clearly needed to be in Anaheim.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

      You clearly did.

I have one word for that problem.

      Atlanta!

      1. Claudia Welch says:

I thought the one word would be WINE. :)

  12. Barbara Samuel says:

    I had plenty of wine.

It was so great to meet the Goddesses at last!

    1. LoriHandeland says:

And you as well. Congrats again!

    2. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

      Congrats, Barbara!

  13. Haley says:

It looks like you guys had such a great time! I always have fun, BUT it’s been a while since “days and days” of fun have been part of the vocabulary. HOWEVER, next week I’m taking off a few days to extend the weekend so I can enjoy the Iowa State Fair with friends and family. I’M SO EXCITED. The new must try food this year is a bacon wrapped corndog (after all, we are in Iowa), and a german chocolate cake funnel cake. 3> the FAIR! :)

    1. LoriHandeland says:

I am going to our State Fair on Monday, but it’s only a one day visit here since it’s 20 minutes away.

I hope we have German chocolate funnel cake. That sounds gooood. Since it’s WI we have cheese everything. Usually deep fried. And bacon wrapped.

      1. Haley says:

Gotta love the fried cheese curds!! However, BACON wrapped cheese curds sound amazing. Have fun at the fair!

        1. LoriHandeland says:

If they have some, I’m gettin’ ‘em!

  14. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

Aw, Reggie’s girlfriend is so pretty! They both look very happy.

I am pretty fortunate in that I usually will have a few days of fun a few times a year. We try to go on little get aways every two to three months to break up our hectic lives. We have one planned to Savannah in a couple of weeks, and one to Maine at the end of September. Oh, and some wine may be involved also!

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Sign me up! Savannah and Maine are two of my favorite places. Have fun.

  15. Sheridan says:

The trip to SoCal was awesome. I was able to catch up with so many friends, see the Goddesses, drink (more than a little) wine… I came back completely exhausted but mentally recharged from being social and experiencing the city again. Loved it.

Reggie’s new girlfriend is TOO cute!

    1. LoriHandeland says:

      It was fun!!

Amber is adorable. And she loves Reggie. So I love her.

  16. cail says:

We’re off to Quebec for our days of fun next week! I’m looking forward to relaxing in the old city, and doing some art.

RWA sounded fun this year. I wish I had been able to make it out to see everyone.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

      Next time, Cail.

Never been to Quebec. Sounds exotic.

  17. dbrown3400 says:

Haven’t had days of fun in a row since my last RT Convention in New York although I’d been to several before that. Jam packed with activities, RT is a blast. I always went on the writer’s track and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was supposed to go to Chicago this year but that’s when my health went totally downhill. One day of total fun was the RWA Literacy Signing in NYC last year and the Goddess party.

I am planning an extended trip to my hometown in Oklahoma in October to squeeze in visits to as much family as possible. I’ve also re-connected with my steady from high school who has made lots of plans for us. I’m eager to see how that works out as we talk on the phone all the time and have grown quite close.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Your high school steady. How very interesting. We will need a report.

      1. dbrown3400 says:

That was almost fifty years ago, so I’ll be sure to check in.

  18. Suzanne Enoch says:

I had a ton of fun at RWA, too, though I couldn’t really call it a getaway this year. When you don’t even have to take a freeway to get to the conference, it’s not really a vacation. *g*

I want to go back to England, too. Maybe next year. Sigh…

    1. LoriHandeland says:

I know. I wanna go to England bad.

  19. Pamiam says:

I can’t recall the last time I’ve had days of fun. Guess that means it’s been too long. I am looking forward to my sons wedding next month in Big Bear. I will be in the mountains for 3 days (no cooking !!yea) and the room is paid for at the inn as part of the wedding. So I will be having my days and days of fun real soon.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Oh how lovely! A wedding. That sounds like fun to me.

  20. Madeline Hunter says:

DH and I took a cruise in May. That was my last days and days of fun. No email and no cooking and no kids and no cleaning and lots of wine. I get to do this maybe once a year, max.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Sounds heavenly. I think our big trip this year is taking youngest to Vegas for his 21st. NOT relaxing.

      But there will be wine.

  21. Janae says:

It was great to meet you at the literacy signing in Anaheim. I forgot to tell you that I love your haircut!

Next week I get to have tons of fun by myself because Only Boy will be at scout camp on Catalina, while Drama Queen will be at art camp during the day. My plans are to make jewelry, take pictures of said jewelry, and get ready to list it on etsy after school starts August 28th. There will be some school shopping after camp with Drama Queen as she needs new shoes and a lunchbox. She really wants a Pokemon one, but I’ve no idea where to look for one locally.

Once Only Boy is back from camp we’ll be heading to Montana for some sapphire mining, gold panning, visiting a ghost town, my mom’s birthday, shopping at my favorite vintage store, a trip to a farmer’s market, and hanging out with cousins. Sadly, Animation Dude will not be with us since he has to get a movie finished and out to theaters for its release on September 28th.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Great to meet you as well. Thanks!

You will definitely have days and days of fun! I’ve found some great stuff on etsy. Can’t wait to see yours!

  22. Cheri Champagne says:

I’m glad to hear that you had such a good time!

The last time I had ‘days and days’ of fun was when I went to the UK with my husband in May. It was a surprise for my husband in celebration of his finally becoming a journeyman electrician, and my birthday. My dad paid for it for us. It was absolutely amazing! It was only 8 days, but it was a blast! We spent four days in Edinburgh, Scotland, and 4 days in London, England. The hotels we stayed in were spectacular. I would go back in a heartbeat! … As a matter of fact, I have wanted to move to Scotland since I was a kid, so seeing even 4 days worth of it was the best feeling ever.

    1. LoriHandeland says:

Nice dad! I’m so glad you have fun. Can’t imagine how you wouldn’t.
