  1. Kelly Proellocks says:

    1) Meh
    2) Sunny and warm
    3) I am in the lounge room, New Guy is texting on his phone and I am in my jammies with my new ugg boots on my feets.
    4) the last home improvement project was when I cleaned the place thoroughly and it was nice and tidy for an hour until Sci Fi Guy and his son came home and made a mess – not impressed
    5) my style is generally relaxed but I do like the 1950s style for important stuff, as it is I plan to get a dress in this style for when I graduate.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Kelly, 50s couture is a lot of fun! Very simple and classic.

    2. B says:

I hope it’s gotten better on the meh by now, Kelly :)

  2. Sue says:

    1. Great
    2. Sunny,warm with blue skies
    3. Sitting on my bed, still in my pjs, watching the early morning news. My dog is snoozing in her cage/kennel on the other side of the room.
    4. Home improvement project? That’s a foreign word to me! :) Oh is sweeping leaves & dead bugs from the breezeway considered home improvement? :)
    5. My style is very casual. I’m retired and lately it’s been shorts & summer shirts.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Sue, yes, that is DEFINITELY a home improvement project. Congrats on your successful project completion! :)

  3. Angharad says:

Hurrah! Karen, I love a getting to know you quiz!

    1) A little grumpy
    2) Sunny days – though in winter I love snowy days when you can sit by the fire and know that you don’t have to go anywhere
    3) I’m at work, so there’s a mass of paper everywhere (I am not tidy), my book’s on my desk, plus my tin of tea, a small red dragon, a calendar of very nice attractive men, and a photo of my friend Sam.
    4) I don’t really do home improvement projects – that’s Dad’s job!
    5) my style is fairly casual, though I do like a good dress up every so often.

    1. Angharad says:

Oh, and I appear to have missed the one word requirement on the first question, oops. So that’ll just be grumpy then.

    2. Karen Hawkins says:

Angharad, I’m with you — I dress up every so often. I enjoy doing it when I do, but usually I’m good with my casual clothes.

  4. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

    1. Happy
    2. Partly cloudy
    3. I’m in my living room. The television is on, the sun is coming over the trees and spilling a little light through the windows. The hummingbirds are aflutter at the feeder. My dogs are looking at me like I have three heads, because I just said the magic word-ride.
    4. I landscaped the side of the house a couple of weeks ago. I just did the design for the front yesterday so that will be the next project I do. Inside stuff I hire professionals for. :)
    5. Casual. Many times shorts and t’s casual, but if the occasion calls I can do it up!

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Ahhh, Kelly! I want to be where you are!

That’s so cool that you did your own landscaping! I need to landscape my backyard. Many of the pretty plants that were there when we moved in were killed by a frost. But that’s an after-deadline job, so I have a month to think about it.

  5. LoriHandeland says:

    1. One word that describes your mood today?
    Zoned

    2. Favorite sort of day — sunny day, rainy day, misty day, or snowy day?
    Sunny

    3. Where are you right now and what do you see around you?
In my office I see lots of crap. I need a bigger office.

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project?
The only home improvement I do is cleaning and the house needs it. It never turns out the way I hoped because I have to do it again. The next project commences today with the kitchen floor. Puppy paws everywhere.

    5. How would you describe your style?
    Potpourri

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

      Zone away, Lori!

Yeah, I need to organize my office. It’s a good size, but still too small for all of my papers. :-(

Btw, saw the results (though not the actual game) for the first preseason Packers v Chargers. We barely won … looks like another exciting season!

      1. kez says:

What? I thought they played tonight??

        1. Karen Hawkins says:

You know what, you’re right, Kez. It was a POST VIEW of last year’s game IN PREPARATION for this year’s game, which is tonight. The headline was confusing and I read it thinking it happened last night and I was a bit upset that it wasn’t on any of my station.

Now I’m wondering if it might be on my local network after all . . . Hmmm.

          1. LoriHandeland says:

You about gave me a heart attack, Karen. I have brats and pasta salad and beer all ready for the game TONIGHT!!

Supposedly they drafted some hotshot pass rusher who is supposed to help Clay destroy the opposition. Here’s hoping.

            1. Karen Hawkins says:

I watched it on my cellphone tonight. I saw some good things … and some not to good things. But you know they never show all of their good plays before the season begins, so I have hopes. Some of the newbies showed a lot of promise.

  6. Kathy says:

    1. mood? sticky
    2. day? Snowy!!
    3. where/see? living room with laptop, watching the decathalon live, in front of fan.
    4. projects? restrung the clothesline my landlord in his male stupidity strung 7 ft up from my deck floor. it is now reachable. next is to make something from my tree cookie that has been sitting in my bro in law’s workshop since last sept.
    5. style? casual but flipflop free-hate those things.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Kathy, tall people mess up so many things for us normal ones. You should see the wasted cabinet space in my kitchen. It’s criminal.

As for your fan, my daughter just moved to Brooklyn and she’s sans a/c, too, and wow, it’s been hot. They finally bought fans, though, which is good, but I had to laugh because she’s been sitting out on her fire escape, reading. I told her that was probably the most New York thing I’d ever heard. :)

      1. Kathy says:

my landlord told me to get the ac out of the window last summer when it leaked into the walls and came out in the downstairs apt’s kitchen.
He and the other two tenants went away this week, so I put it back in with a tray to wick the water away from the house. hee hee. it took care of the hottest days this week, and I’m back to fans stationed around the house. Now to convince him this was a great solution so I can have it again!

        1. Karen Hawkins says:

Good for you! It’s been crazy hot, hasn’t it? I’m sure he’ll be ok with your new solution. It sounds like a win-win!

  7. Deb Marlowe says:

    1. Exhausted

    2. sunny

    3. a million things to do!

    4. re-stained the deck

    5. Inconsistent!

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Deb, I’m so sorry you’re exhausted, but I see that you also re-stained the deck, so maybe they’re connected. I hope you get a nap today. :)

  8. Lisa Hill says:

    1. Tired
    2. Sunny
    3. In my office, its peaceful here.
    4. Enlarged my closet…came out fantastic. Next project: finish all the other projects that have been started.
    5. My style is a cross between Old World Elegance and Shabby Chic.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Lisa, I’m drooling over your closet redo. I want one!

Your style is exactly like my daughter’s. She always wears the coolest clothes and always looks SO good in them. I’d never think to mix up some of the things she does, but it always works. That’s a great combination of styles and I salute you!

  9. aida alberto says:

    1. happy
    2. suuny and more oh my god can it get any hotter temps inching their way up already at 7:27 in the a.m.
    3. in what was supposed to be the game room, sitting on a plastic chair on a laptop perched on top of the pool table. The room was turned into a bedroom out of necessity.
    4. I took a puzzle I had finished and really liked glued it to a piece of cardboard and decorated it with different things around the edges and placed it in a frame. Came out really cute. It’s hanging on my wall.
    5. My style is casual and easy. Most of the time I’m in capris or shorts and in a tank top. The few times I do wear shoes it’s flip flops.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Aida, the heat has been HORRIBLE this year.

I love your puzzle idea! I may do that with my niece. We’ve been looking for a craft.

  10. Jen B says:

    1. One word that describes your mood today? meh

    2. Favorite sort of day — sunny day, rainy day, misty day, or snowy day? snowy for certain, summer I am not fond of.

    3. Where are you right now and what do you see around you? I’m at my desk, I see piles of books, papers, my kids, 1 cat, photos of my Ironman and a bunch of finisher medals from race. I also see outside…

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project? I sanded down and repainted 2 shaker style rocking chairs and table that are on my front porch. They turned out nice.

    5. How would you describe your style? Eclectic at best.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

I’d love to see your chairs. I have an old chair that needs refinishing. Every time I look at it, I think “One day . . .” I’ve been thinking that for six years now. :)

    2. Karen Hawkins says:

Jen, you did an Ironman? I’m impressed! Hot Cop did a few half ones and I can only imagine the determination it takes to do a whole one.

      1. Jen B says:

I did my first full Ironman in 2011 at Lake Placid. It was really really hard but SO satisfying. I went up this year to volunteer at the race and it was really cool to be on the other side and to spectate. Of course I also registered for next years race. My favorite distance is the half iron though. It’s FUN! Hot Cop ROCKS!

  11. AmyS says:

    1. Tired.

    2. Love snowy days. Especially, when we don’t need to be anywhere and we can sit in our pjs all day, watching movies and drinking hot chocolate.

    3. In my kitchen. It’s raining outside, and I am trying to avoid cleaning the mess I see around me.

    4. It has been awhile, so I guess the last thing I would have done, would be to paint my youngest daughters room. It turned out alright, not great, but ok.

    5. I would say I have no style, but if I had to name it, then I would say casual.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Snowy days … oh, I miss those. Hot chocolate, blankets wrapped around your pj-clad shoulders, and watching the white flakes pour down … sigh. I’m now jonesing for winter. Thank you!

  12. Barbara Samuel says:

    Sleepy.

    Foggy!

Waking up with tea and CR, in our family room

My garden. It is a work in progress.

    Hmm. Half-mountain girl, half bohemian

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Ah, yes, foggy days. *sigh* So cool and misty . . . I could do with some of those right now.

  13. KatherineA says:

    Mood: not sure yet

Love a snowy day where I can sit my the fire and read a good book.

I’m sitting in my living room, I can see a bright blue sky.

We put down some wood floors that turned out great.

    Style, I would say eclectic.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Katherine, it’s cool because I’m sitting in my den and I’m looking up at a bright blue sky, too — the same one! :)

And oh, I’m totally jealous of your new wood floors. I want some for my back bedrooms. It’s on my Want List.

  14. Claudia Welch says:

    Mood: Ambivalent

    Favorite: Sunny

Location: Kitchen table, sun filtering through the bright green leaves of the oak trees, purple impatiens covered in raindrops shining in the light, tall ferns in pots looking lush, a skewed pile of a manuscript needing revisions, my glasses lying on top.

Project: redecorated my bedroom this summer. New paint color, new drapes, new focal point art piece. The furniture is in the same place, but the room feels fresh and I am very, very happy. Next project: built-in bookshelves at the lake house.

Style: classic/sporty/sexy. All three at once. Of course it’s possible! ;)

    1. Kelly Proellocks says:

Gee Claudia, anyone would think that you’re a writer with how you writed it so good and stuff. I could almost see it in my mind which was stuffing up the epic death match between the creepy kid and woman from The Grudge, the little girl from The Ring and the aliens from Alien Resurrection. Yep it is weird inside my head tonight.

    2. Karen Hawkins says:

***sigh*** Claudia, what a beautiful view. I want to see it … AND read the manuscript! :)

      1. Claudia Welch says:

I do love living here. It’s the bomb. Prettiness as far as the eye can see.

  15. Haley says:

LOVE this game! Will you answer the questions too, Karen?

    1. Motivated (which is dangerous for unsuspecting victims)

    2. If I’m reading, snowy–curled on the couch–otherwise sunny, crisp, sweater weather

    3. In the middle of the Iowa State Fair grounds. I see eager 4-H exhibitors with their animals; livestock patrol on horses; Judges and crew directing kids, parents and animals; machinery moving around woodshavings for bedding; AND the beer truck just unloaded at Stockmans. LOVE the FAIR! :) I’m in heaven.

    4. I built raised beds for my first garden (thank you Mom, for making me tough out 4-H!!!).

    5. In both fashion and home…simple and classic

    HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

I’ll answer them later this evening. It’s just too much fun reading and answering everyone’s responses right now. :)

I’m DYING for some crisp sweater weather, so your description made me sigh and grin at the same time.

And you build raised beds? How did that go? How deep are they? I want to do that this winter and grow some Florida winter veggies.

  16. kez says:

    1. One word that describes your mood today? Hopeful.

    2. Favorite sort of day? A Wisconsin autumn day – deep blue sky with big puffy clouds and the potential to reach 78 degrees. There is a fresh wind blowing and you need a Packer sweatshirt in the morning. The fire is lit in the fire pit and breakfast is cooking out there in a cast iron pan. Living in Ohio these Wisconsin days are rare but treasured.

    3. Where are you right now and what do you see around you? At my desk with two 22.5″ widescreen monitors to make work easier. How did we work with only one???

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project? I have two gardens – one little garden in pots on the back deck (tomatoes and herbs) and the BIG one that holds the majority of the food crops. We also have 35 pumpkin plants in the big garden. Everything is producing well so I am counting it as a WIN during this heat wave. We need to pressure wash the deck and apply coating before fall rains come.

    5. How would you describe your style? Classic. I spent the 80s and 90s in suits/pantyhose while Marketing so now it is khakis, nice shirts and luscious shoes.

Enjoying everyone’s answers to these questions today!

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

kez, man, girlfriend, you are fitted out with the tech, aren’t you? I have a laptop, an ipad, and — well, that’s about it. Nice!

I loved your garden descriptions. There’s nothing as good as home grown food. It tastes so much better (especially tomatoes — oh my gosh!), and is so much better for you. Kudos for undertaking that!

  17. Kathleen O says:

Anxious – because every time the phone rings I think it is going to be the news that someone I care about and who is very sick, has passed away…

Sunny Day… because the sunshines from within in me at the same time..

I am in my kitchen looking out over my little garden with all it’s beautiful plants and flowers.. It is so green and colourful.

I bought a new sofa for my living room.. And now I am looking for a couple of new chairs to accent the sofa.

    I would say Casual…

    1. Kelly Proellocks says:

*hugs* please remember to take care of yourself during this hard time.

    2. Angharad says:

Lots of love and hugs, Kathleen.

    3. Karen Hawkins says:

Kathleen, I’m so sorry that you’re anxious. I’m sending prayers your way. (((((((((HUGS)))))))))

I love your answer about the sun and how it shines within you all of the time. That’s lovely!

  18. Angela says:

    Worried
    sunny
Panera to use wifi calming music
I rent so can’t do any sort of change to my apartment
casual but I do dress for special occasions

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Angela, my daughter rents, too, and she hung fabric on her walls to add color here and there and it’s just lovely! That might work for you, too.

I’m sorry you’re worried, but I hope that whatever is worrying you will soon be settled in your favor. Hugs, m’dear!

  19. Cheri Champagne says:

    1. One word that describes your mood today?
    Fiesty!

    2. Favorite sort of day — sunny day, rainy day, misty day, or snowy day?
    Rainy.

    3. Where are you right now and what do you see around you?
I’m sitting at my computer desk. I see my 3 year old son sitting on the couch beside me watching Sesame Street, I see my notebooks, yesterday’s tea mug, chapstick, moisturizer, and my house phone. :)

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project?
The last project that I did was putting up shelves in the living room. It turned out great! My next project is putting up shelves in the kitchen and pictures in my dining room.

    5. How would you describe your style?
“Mom”… I’m a stay-at-home mom, so my attire generally consists of lululemon yoga pants and a t-shirt or hoodie. When I go out, though, I wear normal clothes, but everything I wear is still washable, because with two young sons I need to be able to get clean after they put food (etc) on me.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Cheri, I have to say HUZZAH for yoga pants. What DID we wear before they made those? Oh yes, bulky sweat pants.

It’s very cool to get that snapshot of where you are. Btw, Sesame Street rocks, doesn’t it? That and the Muppet Show … happy memories!

      1. Cheri Champagne says:

I second your ‘huzzah!’ for yoga pants. I don’t know what I’d do without them. I wore those sweat pants ages ago, too, and they were not nearly as comfortable as yoga pants.

Sesame Street is excellent. It teaches my kids so much!

  20. KB says:

Karen, You’ve got me singing ♫ Getting To Know You ♫ right now! LOL

    1. My mood this morning is SNARKY! [Yes, all capitals] ☺
    2. My favorite sort of day is when there’s a beautiful sunrise [if I'm up early enough], then pours for a little [so I can snuggle up with a KH book], followed by a nice mist that ends with another clear beautiful sky.
    3. Right now I’m at work [shhhh], watching each letter I type appear on screen. ☺
    4. Last home improvement I did myself, was stand in the bathtub/shower and let it run while my hubby looked for the leak. He found it while we shouted through the second floor at what we saw. Next, I will be painting a bathroom wall this weekend…
    5. My style is a little bit of everything. My bathroom is country. Our living room is bar/lounge/pool hall type. Our bedrooms is like the mountains. Our backyard looks like the beach [well, palm trees, a pool, and an unbrella]. And our garage looks like a quad racing team moved in! I’m the same way with my clothes and music, too. ♥ Everything’s got something good in it…

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

KB, that’s a good tune worm to have … I’ve got it myself so I’m glad to share the magic. Heh!

Sorry you’re feeling snarky this morning. I hope the tune worm didn’t cause it. :)

Glad you found your leak, btw. Those can be so annoying.

      1. KB says:

#3 caused my #1…the tune worm caused me to smile! You did good!!! Lol Yeah, it was our first leak together, and without wall-x-ray vision, it’s really hard to find the starting point of the problem. :)

        1. Karen Hawkins says:

It took team work to find that leak, and you guys had it in spades, so congrats!

  21. Sheridan says:

    1. Mood today? Hrm… ambitious

    2. I love a snowy day, especially at night when it is so quiet out you can hear the beautiful, soft sounds of the snow landing.

    3. I am in my home office with a giant Mac in front of me, an additional display on the left, Shadow at my feet and the window to my right. I can see my miniature metal chicken, Beyonce, my money cat and lots of sticky notes.

    4. Helped Geezer fix the sprinkler heads. I got them all mostly working and on track, but a few had to be replaced.

    5. Hrm. Home decor-wise, I am going with “eclectic” and clothing wise… whatever took me the least amount of time to find and buy on my rare clothes shopping trips. I wish I was stylish, but I just don’t seem to have the enthusiasm to put into it that would make me so. ;)

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

      Ambitious is always good!

I love your description of where you are. Because you’ve talked about Shadow on here, I always picture him with you, sucking on the edge of his pillow, which is SO FRICKING CUTE!

  22. Jeanne Disney says:

Feeling today – tired and bored
Favorite sort of day: love sunny and 70s with no humidity (cause you know its the humidity not the heat that is a pain)
Where are you: At work – I see a sea of cubes – around me nothing but walls – I see no human (can hear them but don’t see them)
Last home improvement: I replaced the door knobs on all the upstairs doors (that is as home improvement I get)
My style?: Clothing – dark and comfortable fitting; home – comfy so I guess overall I am a comfortable kinda person.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

No humidity? I can’t even imagine. Florida is rife with it right now. I won’t even go outside today unless I’m forced by a Diet Coke shortage.

Door knob replacement, eh? Was it for decoration purposes or did they just need it?

      1. Jeanne Disney says:

Two doors needed replacement-kept getting locked in the bathroom. The others I did cause I was on a role.

No humidity – San Diego – my ultimate location but I understand FLA – I am in PHL and we have humidity flowing throught the windows today – ughhhh

  23. Sabrina Jeffries says:

    1. Does “hungry” count? And if not, I guess then self-satisfied, since I wrote 15 pages yesterday.

    2. Sunny day, as long as it’s not 100 degrees. *G*

    3. I’m in my living room, admiring my new renovations. How long will it be before they become ho-hum to me?

    4. Weird! Home improvement must be on all our brains. Sadly, I don’t do them myself, ever. I’m not good at that. Unless you count decorating. I did fill my new built-ins with art, books, etc., and had great fun trying to decide how to arrange things and where to put everything.

    5. I really don’t know. Eclectic?

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Sabrina, I wrote 15 pages, too! WOOHOO!!!

I want pictures of your renovations! Please post some. Or did you post it and I missed it while I was traveling? I want to see!

    2. B says:

Sabrina, you’re not really good with the whole “one word” thing, are you? :P

  24. E.R. says:

    1. Fran-stress = frantic + stress
    - I tried to look up a word that encompassed both, but I couldn’t find it, so I made this up for the mood that I’m experiencing right now.

    2. Cloudy/sunny/slightly-breezy day = cloudy day + sunny day + slightly breezy day
    - Part sunny, part cloudy, slightly breezy is the kind of day I like.

    3. Sitting on my bed, and my room is crowded with my “stuff” that I hadn’t bothered cleaning YET.

    4. I’m not handy, so I just do the follow-up (i.e. put the yard waste out front during garbage pickup day).

    5. Hmm, that’s a loaded question. Fashion-wise, I’m all for comfort. Homestyle-wise, I’m all for contemporary with some eclectic twist. Foodstyle-wise, native food with some other faves. Ah…

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

E.R., I know Fran-stress. I’m on deadline so ah, yeah. Been there. Sort of on the verge right now.

Btw, I like your styles! Comfort has to come first. Must, must, must.

  25. SuzyQ says:

    1. mood – bored

    2. sunny day, preferably at the beach

    3. I am at work in my cubicle with my screen in front of me, lots of sticky notes around, my BIG coffee cup, and pictures of friends and family.

    4. my life is a never-ending home improvement. The last big one was cleaning out the entire attic to install central air. I couldn’t believe how much crap was up there. Next project is re-doing my son’s room.

    5. My style is sparkly. I always need a touch of bling somewhere but not enough to be flashy. Just sparkly.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Suzie, I’m a post-it note queen, too! I don’t know what I’d do without them. Every morning, I make one for my day’s To Do list and then I spend the rest of the day wishing I’d used a smaller post-it so that there wouldn’t be so many things to do. Heh!

How’s the new central air? We’re getting to the point of needing to do that, too. But first, I have to get the windows replaced. Oh, it’s always something, isn’t it?

      1. SuzyQ says:

I’m so glad we put in the air. I was opposed to it and thought the window units were fine. I was wrong. It is just heaven, especially since this summer has been so hot and humid.

  26. dbrown3400 says:

    1. Calm

    2. Rainy day in Spring know it’s going to cause new things to grow. Oh, and I don’t want to be out in it, just listen.

    3. My daughters’ house where I see chores that need doing.

    4. Removed one piece of furniture and added another that made my space look bigger. Of course, DD#2 assembled the furniture as she’s much stronger than I.

    5. Pants or capris with a casual top and sandals although I do dress up a little to go to the doctor’s office. Still wear the sandals. If I don’t go out, many times I’ll stay in lounging PJs, so I guess you’d say it’s casual or lazy. Haha

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Dbrown, I’m a big fan of the capris look, too. So comfy! It’s right up there with yoga pants, which are a type of capri. Sorta. :)

Glad you got your space gussied up! Sounds like things are more comfy for you and that’s important. :)

  27. Pam B says:

    1. One word that describes your mood today? Mellow

    2. Favorite sort of day — sunny day, rainy day, misty day, or snowy day? That depends on my mood. Today is perfect for mellow it’s raining and quiet. Other days I need sunshine and snow days are a lot of fun.

    3. Where are you right now and what do you see around you? I’m in my front room and the oldest is sitting watching the Olympics.

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project? We redid the bathroom and it would have come out great except we had help from my b-i-l and he is an idiot.

    5. How would you describe your style? A little bit of everything.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Pam, I had to laugh about your b-i-l comment. I have one of those, myself. I hope you guys can fix whatever he messed up. It’s a pain to have to redo something you were already redoing, though.

I do love a nice rainy day now and then. Sunshine is necessary, but it’s good to get some variety.

    2. Julie says:

I’m sorry, Pam, but I totally had to laugh at the bil comment too. I have one of those and unfortunately his children turned out just like him… I hope it’s an easy fix.

  28. Julie says:

I really like these quizzes, Karen–they are really random, and those are always fun!

    1. One word that describes your mood today? FRAZZLED

    2. Favorite sort of day — sunny day, rainy day, misty day, or snowy day? I love sunny days with a nice breeze.

    3. Where are you right now and what do you see around you? A cubicle at work with photos of all of my loved ones around me.

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project? Painting feature walls in two rooms in my house. I really like it–it’s a sagey green. No more projects until my daughter, her hub and their little munchkin get a place of their own. Then, probably a LOT of projects to create a guest room and a ‘mama cave’ since we already have the ‘man cave’ in the office. ;)

    5. How would you describe your style? Classic comfort. I never been much for trends because I’m too frugal to spend a lot on stuff that will be out of style in a month. ;) I like things that will never go out of style and they have to be comfortable.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Julie, oh, I LOVE sagey green. Such a peaceful, lovely color. Let us know how the mama cave goes, will you? I’ve got an office, but it’s not fun like a mama cave, but I’d like to add some mama cave features to it.

      1. Julie says:

Me too! Of course, I just love the color green.

Will do. I want to put a computer in there, but I also plan to put up some massive book shelves for all of my lovely books that I won’t part with. There are many paperbacks that I read and trade around, but my hard backs and some paperbacks are mine forever. :) I’d like to get a futon in there to have as a spare place for sleeping for guests if needed, and I’d like to have a pretty lamp and comfy chair to read in. *sigh* That will be SO nice….can’t wait!

        1. Karen Hawkins says:

          It sounds lovely!

  29. Becky Spires says:

    4. Last home improvement project…? My last home improvement project was removing the carpet and painting sub-floor until we save up for hardwood floors. (Never taking used furniture from well meaning family again. It had bed bugs)It looked great, until we went back to living in the rooms. Next project will be the wood floors.
    5. My style would be functional and comfortable. I hate making big purchases and try to keep them to a minimum. Would have WAY more money if I had this same problem with buuying books but I don’t. (count my books a few months ago Currently have around 300. And those just my fave authors that I can re-read often.)Is there a readers anonymous somewhere?

    1. Becky Spires says:

Sorry for the typing errors. Sometimes my fingers can’t keep up with my brain.

    2. Karen Hawkins says:

How awful to have to deal with bed bugs!

And if you find that readers anonymous, you might want to pass on the information to some people on this blog. *ahem*

  30. Fiona Druce says:

    1. Cheerful!

    2. Raindy day

    3. My homeoffice. I see a bookshelf, my piano, and lots of paperwork.

    4. I built a bunch of shelving units to help organize the the basement play area, the living room, and the shoe/backpack area by the front door. It worked!

    5. Open drawer. Grab shirt. Put it on. Open drawer, grab pants, put them on. That’s about the extent of my detail :D

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Shelves. I love shelves. I just wish they made me as organized as you now seem to be!

      1. Fiona Druce says:

Oh, I’m hardly organized, as a whole. I merely bask in the glory of my single success at it. :D

  31. Ginger Robertson says:

    1. Good mood.
    2. Sunny fall or spring day where it’s not too hot.
    3. At work in my office, look sideways and I see back hallway, other my office that needs picking up.
    4. Working in my yard, which I enjoy and looks nice. Next home improvement would be putting in 2 french drains in my back yard, hopefully this fall when weather is cooler.
    5. Casual and comfortable in both home style and what I wear. At work I have to step it up a little.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Putting in French drains is impressive! And definitely better in cooler weather.

  32. Janae says:

    1. A little anxious because I woke up realizing that I didn’t make a hotel reservation for one night for our Montana trip.

    2. Hmm, my favorite kind of day depends on my mood. I love sunny summer days, but I, also, love misty winter days or light rainy days (it means I get to wear one of my cloches!).

    3. Right now, I’m sitting in our office, where if I look out the windows, I can see the neighbors’ trees. If I stand up I can see the LA Basin. Inside the house, I see some stuff that needs to be picked up.

    4. Hmm, does watering my plants count? Otherwise, I’ve done some household “fluffing” – parring down on some accessories, brought out some white jasmine candles, cut some hydrangeas to put in a vase, swapped out towels, etc. This fall we’ll be getting the exterior of the house painted. We’re waiting til we can move a climbing rose that’s next to the house and is the current home of some house finches, before we paint it. I started to trimmed it earlier this summer, and I left a baby bird homeless and orphaned. Fortunately, a local rescue took the baby house finch.

    5. Hmm style – the home is classic with a strong Gustavian influence. Personal style – classic, feminine with a bit of an edge. I LOVE my jeans and boots, but I, also, LOVE my vintage dresses and shoes. The edge comes in with the accessories – putting something together that’s unanticipated and my hair. I only wear my hair in its natural curly state (wearing it natural took 90 minutes off of morning routine), and I always wear like 5-7 colored extension. Last month it was hot pink and bright yellow. This month it’s turquoise and purple. The purple has the same hue value as my hair, so it’s a bigger surprise when you see it. I LOVE wearing my 40s dresses because I feel so girly when I do. If people didn’t ask me why I was dressing up every time I wore a dress, I’d probably wear them more.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

I must say, I am envious of your hair. I think it was a good call to wear it in its natural state, and I loved seeing the colored hair extensions!

Those finches are probably thankful that they nested in your rose bush. It is sweet of you to wait until the babies are out of the nest to start your project. That just warmed my heart a bit.

      1. Janae says:

I was so devastated when I left the baby bird orphaned and homeless. It hit and its nest hit my head when I was trimming this MASSIVE climbing rose. Then, I found the broken eggs. After that I started really looking for other nests in the rose. I think it’s driving my dh crazy that we’re putting the painting off, but I’d feel horrid if I did that to any other birds.

Thanks, it took me YEARS to love my hair.

        1. Karen Hawkins says:

Janae, I bet the mother bird loses eggs to predators and nature on a yearly basis.

And here’s to finding the right hair style. It makes the search SO worthwhile.

          1. Janae says:

I totally needed to hear that. I don’t feel so bad about the eggs, now.

I’m lucky that I have a FABULOUS stylist. I haven’t had a bad haircut in 3.5 years, which is awesome since I like to change my hairstyle frequently. It just so happens that I’m going to be seeing her the last week before she takes maternity leave and the first week she comes back. I’m SO happy that I don’t have arrange for someone else to cut my hair during that time. She’s a hair genius!

I am sending a bit of sympathy out to your plants. Poor things.

    1. Janae says:

    5. How would you describe your style? Simple

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Melody, I dislike moving, myself, so I hear you. That is the biggest home improvement job of all, so kudos to you for undertaking it.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Judy, I guess home improvement projects aren’t your thing. Lol!

I have no idea how I’d describe my style, either. I’m going to have to think of a word for it since I need to answer the questions, too.

  37. pjpuppymom says:

    1. One word that describes your mood today? Fuzzy (I have a sinus headache)

PJ, sorry about your sinus headache! I had one this morning and it wasn’t fun.

    5. How would you describe your style?
Whatever I can afford. I really don’t have a style other than what’s comfortable.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Pamiam, ice cream always makes the day better, doesn’t it? YAY for ice cream!

It’s amazing what a little paint can do to brighten up a house. It’s not expensive but hoo, it can take a lot of time, can’t it? But maybe serving ice cream while painting would help. Hmmm. That has possibilities.

  39. Karen Hawkins says:

    1. One word that describes your mood today?
A little overwhelmed. Deadline month and I feel like I can’t get there from here.

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project?

When I get bogged down tomorrow, I’m going to re-read that post. Thank you, Kelly. That’s more helpful than you can imagine.

  40. Missy Porter says:

    1. Sleepy (Insomnia will do that to a gal.)

    2. I love days that are sunny and warm. Unfortunately, here (NW Florida) it’s usually sunny and too hot to breathe, or pouring rain and too hot to breathe this time of year.

3.I am sitting in my recliner in the living room. I see: 2 cats draped across my feet, over flowing bookshelves in every corner of the room, 2 more cats stretched out in another chair, 3 deer heads, 2 mounted bass, a basket of towels that need folding, rain out my back door, legos, colored pencils, screwdrivers, flip flops, a camera, a blood pressure machine, and 2 children watching Scooby Doo.

    4. Home improvement LOL! I got tired of the carpet in the hall several years ago and decided to rip it up. It’s been a concrete floor ever since, does that count? I do like to rearrange my furniture every few months though. With my 5 bookshelves that’s a job!

5.My style is flip-flops and blue jean shorts. I like roomy, colorful, peasant style tops with dangle earrings to match. I rarely ever wear make-up and I don’t want to have to spend more than 15 minutes on my hair.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Missy, what a thorough and interesting description of where you are. You win the prize for Most Interesting Surroundings!

      1. Missy Porter says:

Yeah!! I guess interesting is one word for it. Really I should be up putting half that stuff away, but I’m too busy reading Sabrina Jeffries’,”How to Woo a Reluctant Lady”, and playing on the computer. Priorities, priorities….rainy days just beg for books. Who am I to deny them?

  41. Sara says:

    Tired
I love snowy or rainy days
In the living room looking at one of your books to read
Fixed a hole in the wall
    Casual

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Sara, aw, thank you for reading one of my books. I hope it makes you smile. :)

Btw, kudos for fixing a hole in the wall. That’s never as easy it seems it will be.

  42. Michelle says:

    1. Content
    2. Misty – good thing since I live in the middle of the redwoods and they thrive in misty weather.
    3. Sitting at my desk in the bedroom surrounded by two cats who are fighting over who gets to sit in the window for the best view of the bird feeder hanging outside.
    4. I’m not really into home improvement. The most I did was put a container garden on our apartment patio. I would love to paint our bedroom, however. Have to get permission from the landlady to do it.
    5. My style is ultra-casual. Jeans, T’s, sweats, anything comfortable.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Oh, Michelle, redwoods are beautiful and to imagine them in a mist … **sigh** That sounds just lovely.

    1. Subdued

    2. Sunny… rainy is nice but it makes me sleepy

    3. Living room. Listening to my daughters make a fuss because its bedtime

    4. Installed a faucet. I can into an issue or two but it looks ok… next we will likely have to replace a pipe in our basement. I cringe at the thought.

    5. Casual and plain. I dont even like to wear jewlery.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Danielle, we’re facing some repairs here at Casa Hawkins, too, and I dread the moment we’ll begin because nothing ever goes the way you think it will. Still, it’ll be nice when they’re done. :)

Btw, I’m with you on the rain, too. There’s nothing better than sleeping while the rain beats on the roof. Loooovely!

  44. randi marshall says:

    1. Sad

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Randi, sounds like you’ve got a lot of unpacking ahead of you, but it’s still nice to be in a new space, isn’t it? :)

And I need the name of your toe nail polish, please!

    4. What’s the last home improvement project that you did yourself? Did it come out the way you’d hoped? What’s your next project? My last project was a chicken coop made from an old swingset and it e out better than I hoped. Next I’m tackling tile for the bathroom floor.

    5. How would you describe your style? Relaxed.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Jane, I’ve done tile — it was pretty easy — but I’ve never made a chicken coop out of an old swingset. I think you’ll fin the tile is a piece of cake after that one!

  46. jeanne says:

    2. Misty Day
    3. Family Room w/Olympics on the tele
    4. Organized my sewing room. Need more shelves!
    5. I have a refined, classic style.

    1. Karen Hawkins says:

Janice, I’ve come to the conclusion that every house known to man ‘needs more shelves’ because once we have them, we fill them, and then we need more. It’s a cruel, cruel, cruel circle.

  48. Lisa Lord says:

    Let’s see . . .

    Number 1–feeling pretty peaceful today
Number 2–love a sunny day, but a good rainy day is wonderful when you can sit at home with a book and listen to the rain
Number 3–at work but I have a gorgeous office with a view on three sides looking out at massive oak trees, old buildings on campus, and the students wandering by who have returned to campus early
Number 4–gosh, I guess it was when we moved into our current house; lots to do and it turned out fine; painting and scrubbing and such; I would like to put a balcony space on the flat roof of the carport (did it once before but a storm blew it away . . . maybe I need to re-think that!)
Number–Style? Eclectic, quirky; household mostly stuff collected from travels and living abroad–museum style?!; personal whatever fits and is comfortable and lots of color.
