My Stuff

As most of you know by now, I have a collection. At the moment it’s mostly Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, X-Men, and Pirates of the Caribbean. And Muppets. I think I collect because I like to be able to look at the action figure or statue and remember how…transported I was by that particular character or by that moment in the movie.

The pictures here are of three of my latest acquisitions. The first one is an X-Man, the Rogue Classic Statue by Bowen Designs, a limited edition of 800 figures worldwide. I’m a big fan of Rogue, and not just because she’s Gambit’s girlfriend. She has this crazy power where she tends to kill whoever she touches, which makes her a REALLY interesting heroine.

The second figure is the Ringwraith Polystone Statue from Sideshow Collectibles, this one a limited edition of 1000. I adore the Lord of the Rings books and movies, and the Ringwraiths are some of the coolest baddies anywhere. They never speak, but we just KNOW they’re bad news because of the way they look.

The last figure is called Fall of the Empire – Ewoks vs. Stormtrooper, a Polystone Diorama. It’s also from Sideshow Collectibles, and is one of 750 ever made. While I’m not a huge Ewok fan (okay, they mostly bug me), I do like the image of the three cute little guys taking down the bad ass stormtrooper with stone knives and spears while his blaster waves around uselessly.

Have you purchased anything cool lately? Which of my three latest do you like the best? Or is this all just craziness? (Don’t worry, I’ve been told that before.)

The only things I collect are pens and notebooks for journaling. I bought a pack of 12 of my favorite kind of pen in various colors and 20 spiral notebooks (at a back to school sale). I’m set for a while. :)

I’ve always wanted a collection but I can never make up my mind what I want to collect or where I’d put them once I got them. I like your ideas though, especially the Muppets. Miss Piggy rocks.

While I adore the Ringwraiths, and really like the same aspects of the Star Wars scene as you, I have to say that I like the Rogue statue the best out of this bunch. She’s has kind of an Art Deco feel to me. Congratualtions on scoring such great pieces!

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Ooh, Liz B., pens and notebooks. I love those back-to-school sales, too!

  2. Kelly Proellocks says:

I am a rubber duck collector – especially vampire rubber ducks. It’s strange but I love them because they are so cool. I want to collect the Dark-Hunter dolls but they are a bit out of my price range at the moment. Oh I also collect cat cups. New Guy bought me a new one last week when I was going through all the crap with getting my laptop, the tv and the external hard drive. I love your Rogue statue and honestly collections aren’t crazy or a waste of time.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Thanks, Kelly! Your rubber duck collection sounds awesome.

  3. aida alberto says:

I like your Rogue. I collect dragons, gargoyles and fairies. I don’t think collections are a waste of time either if you have the room to display them and just have special pieces that you really love. My favorite though is the dragon. To me they are strong, powerful and badass. Who wouldn’t love something that can fly and breath fire and incinerate whatever they wanted with one puff of breath?

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

aida, I love the idea of a dragon collection!

  4. Kathy says:

    lurve your collection pics!
I don’t have action figures nor collectables like that. bummer.
I do have one cool thing recently bought- but does it count if I wasn’t the purchaser?
my sis gave me as a birthday prezzie last week -a hot pink retro handset that plugs into my cell phone! so cool

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I love those things, Kathy — they immediately make me feel like I’m 16 again. *g*

  5. Lori Handeland says:

Speaking of collections, I added a Bewitched Barbie to mine recently. So, no, you aren’t crazy at all.

My favorite is the Ringwraith. Gave me the chills. But they are all really interesting. Where do you get them?

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I so want to see your Barbie collection, Lori. I have several go-to stores for my stuff; Sideshow Collectibles, Entertainment Earth, and Big Bad Toy Store are the ones I frequent the most.

  6. Gail Nichols says:

My favorite is the lady rogue.I wish I had her figure:)

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I know what you mean, Gail. You have to appreciate the gravity-defying boobage.

  7. Freshechelle says:

Once again, you’ve shown me that I really need to get exposed to these books and movies. Rogue is very cool because of her story.

I’m not a collector but i am an indescriminate shopper for stuff I want.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Fresh, your pop culture education may be lacking, but you have awesome taste. *g*

  8. Amanda says:

I collect plates. The kind you hang on the wall. The majority of my collection is inherited from my grandma via my mom. I love looking at the plates on the wall and just remembering. I’ve added a couple of pieces to the collection myself, and my mother-in-law thinks that she has spotted a really rare one that she wants us to check out because she finds it so cool, and I think she is angling for an antiquing trip to a near-by city. ;) If this plate turns out to not be that rare, that’s ok, because it still has my grandma’s writing on the back.

The Rogue statue is totally cool. I like Rogue, as well. I also like the Ewoks. I like the idea of a primitive culture helping to take down a technologically superior one.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I have a couple of plates too, Amanda, but they’re all Star Wars and Star Trek. Your collection sounds awesome!

  9. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

I have started collecting autographed books. Last week I added another to my collection. Each one I get I let out a little squeal! I love your collection. You brought a smile to my face because I love how into these things you are. You are cool. I personally like the Rogue. I don’t really follow that stuff (gasp, I know!) but I do like the story of her. What an interesting power! Oh the thoughts!

  10. Julie says:

Unicorns…and dragons. Loved them ever since I was little. I also like gryffins–they’re just cool.

I love your Rogue the best, I think. Although, that one with the Ewoks kicking butt is pretty cool. ;)

  11. MistyK says:

I have a porcelain/china addiction and it manifests itself in various ways: Spode plates, teapots, McCoy pottery, Dresden figurines, Belleek spill vases and several sets of dinnerware. I inherited several pieces from my mother. I love the memories each piece evokes–who gave it to me, where I was when I purchased it, the thrill of finding an expensive piece for next to nothing at TJ Maxx! Until it is time to dust, and then I wish I that I collected something like rocks or stamps.

Maybe because of the dusting, it has been several years since I have bought any collectibles. The coolest thing I have purchased lately is a new set of spinner luggage in a purple leopard print. Can’t wait to use it in November when my husband and I take a just-the-two-of-us trip.

Your new Rogue piece is beautiful but my favorite is definitely the Ewoks. We are a Star Wars household and my middle son makes great Ewok growls.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I’ve always wanted to collect English teacups and teapots, MistyK. Your collection sounds very cool!

  12. CateS says:

books… lots and lots of books….

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

And we all LOVE that collection, CateS. *g*

  13. Madeline Hunter says:

I like the Ringwaith one best because it is really well done and detailed and sort of “stop action” dramatic. As for my collecting, aside from books I have been trying not to add to the chaos in my house this summer. After I get it all organized and cleaned, though. . . . . .:)

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Isn’t the Ringwraith cool, Madeline? It gives me the chills sometimes.

  14. evlqn says:

I collect dragons and I have for over thirty years. When I first started collecting them there were very few around, I could get unicorns by the pound and trip over teddy bears but dragons, not so much. The first really neat dragon I found was a mother dragon with her tail wrapped around a crystal egg by Steve and Jacque Tunturi, it cost me $49.00 and worth every penny. I have collected quite a few of their dragons, unfortunately Steve passed away a couple years ago. I also collect gargoyles, LOTR, and neat gadgets (keep me out of Home Depot I go nuts!). Love your stuff Suzanne, I would take the Ringwraith in a happy heartbeat! I have the statues guarding Gondor, I found them at Goodwill one day.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Oooh, evlqn, I have the guardian statues, too. I wish I had room to collect dragons (not that that stops me from getting too much of the other stuff).

      1. evlqn says:

My love affair with dragons started with a romance book, whose title I no longer remember but the heroine collected t-shirts and one had the message “Some-days the dragon wins.” And it described the bedraggled knight with broken lance and helmet askew. It got me to thinking of all the ways the dragon wins in life; child spilling orange juice on your report for the boss -dragon wins. Same child throwing one new shoe out of the car window on the 405 fast-lane on a Friday evening -dragon wins. I had a long list of wins at one time. That morphed into a love of dragons.

  15. Lori Howe says:

my only collection (other than books) has been Pocket Dragons, by Real Musgrave. He’s retired but I still love my little dragons.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Those Pocket Dragons are very cool, Lori!!

  16. Claudia Welch says:

Ringwraith!! Ringwraith!! The coolest of the cool.

My latest purchase: two dogwoods, one pink and one red, to go into my new dogwood “grove.” I had 4 white ones, now the addition of these two. The grove will be magnificent in a few years.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

So you collect…trees, Claudia? Ah. *g*

      1. Claudia Welch says:

Yes. I do. You got a problem with that? ;)

  17. Julia London says:

I see these things and think, where does she put them, who dusts them, and what happens if a nephew breaks them?

I bought some cool boots. You are probably thinking, where does she put them, who dusts them, and what happens if Moose chews it? :-)

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

LOL, Julia – exactly! I usually have the “where will I put it” thought about an hour after I order something. I actually canceled a Ringwraith on Horseback statue a couple of weeks ago because it would have to go in the middle of the dining room table, and it just doesn’t go with Thanksgiving.

  18. Cheri Champagne says:

When I was a little girl I ‘played’ x-men. And I was always Rogue. I liked how kick-butt she was, and I loved that she got the guy. Plus she was lots of fun to play!

As for purchasing anything for myself… I have a collection, too! Mine is different from yours, but I’m going to mention it nonetheless. I collect antique teacups, skeleton keys, and antique books. I like old things. If I had more room in my house, I’d buy more than just the small stuff. But in my collection I’ve got teacups from the late 1800s, several books printed in the Regency period, one book that was printed in 1751 (called Rowe’s Poems – written by the first modern editor for William Shakespeare), and I’ve got two skeleton keys from the 1230s that I purchased when I was in London (from the Portobello Road antique market). That’s right. I’ve got medieval brass keys that were found at the bottom of the Thames. My collection is small, but the items I have I’m super proud of.

  19. LouisaCornell says:

You have such cool collections! I love all of those figures! Each one evokes such great memories of those characters.

I collect English bone china teacups and saucers. I have one for each of my writing contest finals and each one is different.

I also collect teddy bears. I have the first teddy I was ever given. My Grandpop gave me Bernie the day I was born. Bernie has been all over the world with me. I collect teddy bear Christmas tree ornaments, teddy bears and I have the British themed series of the Cherished Teddy Collection – Sherlock Holmes, Watson, Robin Hood, Maid Marion, the Beefeater, the Bagpiper, the Tin Soldier, the Palace Guard, the Scottish Lass. They are all so cute!

I think collections allow us to play to our inner child and that sort of nurturing keeps us healthy! That’s my story and I am sticking with it. Besides, it’s fun!

  20. TinaF says:

    I like Rogue.

Personally I like horse and Thomas Kincaide collectibles. But my recent acquisitions are my mother’s butterflies. Dad has been giving away or throwing away her things since she passed. I give them to my niece or nephew or keep them for myself.

  21. Janae says:

Since I’ve spent the last 7 days on vacation, I’ve purchased quite a few things. The best purchase, though, had to be the $120 I spent on 7 2 gallon buckets of sapphire gravel in Montana. While we found about 130 carats of uncut-able sapphires, we found nearly 20 carats of ones that we’re getting cut. This includes a perfect, blue 5.92 carat sapphire that my 8 yo dd found. When it’s cut, it’ll be 3 carats, and the appraiser at the mine is sure that it’ll be worth at least $2,000.

As for other things I collect – vintage shoes, preferably from the 30s and 40s – picked up 2 pair on vacation, vintage dresses 30s – early 60s – picked up for on vacation, antique china – I’ve some pre-1892 Wedgwood, antique linens, silverware, and old hammers – great texture for jewelry making.

I LOVE Rogue! I love X-Men. REALLY love them. My dh sold his X-Men #1 as part of the down payment on our house.

  22. William says:

Ok, I never comment, but your stock just went up about 50 points (maybe 100, but I’m not a big Ewok fan, either). If you were a dude, you just cranked up the geekometer to “11″. But since you’re a chick, you can get away with anything!! (How fair is that??)
P.S. I’m feeling defensive here…I have a wife, a job, and I do NOT live at home with my parents:) I have no figures at all, but my wife loves the Ewoks and has teddy bears ALL over the house. Just sayin’.
