At the moment I am loving country singer Courtney Conway with her songs Girly Girl and A Few Little Things. I am also loving Rocky by Austin Roberts and other songs from the 60s and 70s. Then there’s Keith Urban’s song Tonight I wanna Cry. I love Rascal Flatts songs, especially Why, I Melt and My Wish. I do like my country music a lot

My good friend is a country fan. We sometimes have a tussle over what music to play in the car.

I am a punk rock / hard rock girl. Right now my obsession is with a song by Rise Against called Architects. It’s powerful, about being the architect of your fate rather than just sitting on the sidelines and watching your life go by. I love it and listen to it over and over on repeat. I am a huge fan of songs like that – powerful songs with a good message. I’m thinking about going back on a the Who kick. I have a best of CD of their stuff and I sometimes get obsessed with them. It’s been a while, I may have to do that.
You want to hear something really funny? My kids’ favorite song – both of them – is the 80′s song We’re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister. Of all the songs they hear in my car, they’ve chosen that one. It used to be Werewolves in London by Warren Zevon but now it’s this. Thankfully I have both on CD so we can listen to them (almost) as often as they want.

Listen to The Irish Rovers – Donald Where’s Your Troosers… so funny
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:18 am.
Flogging Molly, If I ever leave this world alive.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:25 am.
LOVE Flogging Molly! I was on a kick of them a year or so ago. They’re all I listened to for 4 months.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 12:23 pm.
The Ladies from Hell!
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:36 am.
Great message, Liz. I love songs like that, too.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 2:40 pm.
I’m a huge Bon Jovi fan. Have been since day one. Bed of Roses by them is a big favorite. I also love Eminem when everyone else hated him. Absolutely love Pink. Can’t imagine life without music in it. No matter what’s going on in your life at the moment there’s a song for it.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 6:48 am.
Oh my gosh — Pink. I love her, too. Such a terrific voice. It just grabs you.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:09 am.
I love Pink’s lyrics, too.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 2:41 pm.
My favorite is always Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses. (sorry!) I was listening to it yesterday when I was putting away the wash. Another I love is Perhaps Love with John Denver and Placido Domingo. Pretty much anything from the 50s to the 80s is good–rock, country, show tunes.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 7:15 am.
I love Perhaps Love along with Fly Away, Calypso, Looking for Space, Like a Sad Song and Leaving on a Jet Plane. The world became a sadder place when John Denver died.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 7:54 am.
Lori, of course there would be someone who loves Guns & Roses!
I do like some of their stuff, but my brother WAY overplayed it.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 2:41 pm.
Even though I find Rihanna really annoying I love practically all of her songs. My current favorite is a tie between Where Have You Been and Birthday Cake (makes me laugh).
2- Juanes “Tengo la Camisa Negra”
Love this song. Although I was so surprised when I read the English translation of the lyrics. The song is bubbly, but the lyrics are depressing lol
3- Blake Shelton – Hillbilly Bone [feat. Trace Adkins]
). It got stuck in my head after I looked up Trace Adkins.
Love this song. Drive hubby nuts. I blame this one on one of our Goddesses (guess who?
I know Adele has a great voice and bla bla bla… ugh I wish they’d stop playing her songs!
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:15 am.
I’ll have to have a listen to Tengo. A lot of Spanish songs are the darkest, bloodiest, saddest songs I’ve ever heard.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 2:43 pm.
Me too! Add that my mom has Adele on her ipod . . .
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:04 pm.
Love LMFAO. I eww and lol during the Sexy and I Know it Video.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:16 am.
Me, too. So. Much. Fun.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 2:43 pm.
You and I could be good friends Barbara! I like all those songs you listed, and like you, I listen to many different varieties of music. My brothers blasted my ears with rock, my mom and friends roped me into country, and my own self has always liked pop. Right now I am loving Blown Away by Carrie Underwood, Wide Awake by Katy Perry, and Pink’s latest Blow Me One Last Kiss. Another one is Broken by Seether. That is one I listen to often while writing my current book. I love all Adele, Pink, and Reba, and rock out sometimes to older Def Leppard and Metallica.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:16 am.
Not sure I know Broken, but judging by your list, I should go find it, since we DO have lots of music in common. We could have a dance party!
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 2:44 pm.
My Friends and I make a music compillation every year that we call Gnaked Gnome Music, it’s just songs that make us happy:
A Sample of This Year’s Songs:
1. Everybody Talks, Neon Trees
2. Best Years of Our Lives, Baha Men
3. Jump Up, Da Beat Bros
4. Tightrope, Janelle Monae
5. Peep Show, Kimberly Cole
6. Check Yes Juiliette, We The Kings
7. Better Than Revenge, Taylor Swift
8. 50 Ways to Say Goodbye, Train
9. Everybody Talks, Neon Trees
10. Scarlett O’Hara is Alive and Well, Mike Rayburn
They have no rhyme or reason, just everyone nominates 2 and we put them on the list.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:24 am.
Pesky, your friends know Good Music. That’s a great list!
Train is one of my all time favorite bands, btw. LOVE them, and I hired Mike Rayburn a bunch of time when I was working as a Director of Student Activities. Classy man and incredible music. He was Coffee House Cool before coffee houses were cool.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:30 am.
I saw him at Carnagie Hall and he was amazing.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 5:07 pm.
Oh, Barbara, the Phillip Phillips song is beautiful. I’m well aware of the other two — they’re in my song list, too. LOVE them both, but I’m sending the Phillip Phillips song to my daughter, who will (I know) love it.
Right now I’m listening to my daughter’s old band, Plainclothes Tracy, in WINE TILT. The band is now defunct as she just moved to Brooklyn to start school.
But I know she’ll continuing making terrific music, even without the band as she’s been writing lyrics since third grade and never stops.
And I love A.A. Bondy’s Lover’s Waltz, which is a song Hot Cop played for me when he asked me to marry him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY7TIHd2tLw
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:28 am.
Isn’t it amazing? (Home). Man, love it when a song catches me like that.
Bittersweet that your daughter is headed off to a different life now, but just think of the experiences she’ll be building into her music.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 2:46 pm.
I love Jump Into the Fog by the Wombats. I am always looking out for happy songs.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:40 am.
Love Christina Perry! She’s had some great songs. I love the Top 40 charts as well, but am also a country fan. Loving the Pistol Annies “Hell on Heels”, Fun “Some Nights”, Little Big Town “Pontoon”, Gloriana “Kissed You” and pretty much anything by Mumford and Sons.
Have a great day
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:52 am.
Yes! Pink, Adele. Love them both. They both have such full-bodied voices. Also love Katy Perry. Wide Awake is a current favorite. Home is terrific. He’s a romantic, that Phillip Phillips.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 10:46 am.
That LMFAO song makes me lllaaauuuggghhhhh… And the video? Makes me laugh more. I absolutely love that they don’t take themselves seriously.
Some of my current favorites are:
Sail by awolnation (I think because of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWfph3iNC-k&feature=youtube_gdata_player more than the lyrics.
Broken hearted by Karmin
Side of the road by Erik Penny
And a few flashbacks to billy idol have had me dancing in my chair lately.

Still waiting for my regular computer to come on at noon (rigorous deadline requirement, dontcha know!) so I’ll be in after while to chat more with you on your favorites.
Didn’t want you all to think I was ignoring you!
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:21 am.
Okay, I have to ask—- do you have a program that locks it up when you are on deadline? So you can’t play aroun and have to write?
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 3:55 pm.
I do, actually. And I have the controls on a computer I can’t access.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:15 pm.
You and Tequila, Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter
And I am a major Lyle Lovett fan.
But ask me again next week, and I probably will have different favorites.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:27 am.
LMFAO songs are hilarious. However, I’m loving Maroon 5′s Payphone and Train’s Drive By. Those would be my top right long. I love listening to Usher too, so I have a lot of his songs playing. However, I love a lot of different kinds of music except for metal. Not fan.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 12:03 pm.
So many new artists on my favorites playlist are retro. Beatlesque, Folksy, 80′s synth, I’m loving it all, including: Daniel Rossen’s (of Grizzly Bear) Silent Song, and thenewno2′s Make It Home (Beatlesque); Fleet Foxes’ Montezuma, and Milo Greene’s 1957 (folksy); Miike Snow’s The Wave and Yeasayer’s Longevity (80′s snyth). Fun topic!
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 1:05 pm.
Great suggestions, Vaughn!
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:15 pm.
At the moment I’m liking Jason Derulo’s “Don’t Wanna Go Home”. It makes me want to dance. And I’ve been a huge John Denver nerd for decades. *g*
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 1:21 pm.
This week’s fave song is Dark Lady by Cher. Thank you Sirius 70s channel for reminding me of this song that took me back to being a dancing 5 year old.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 1:48 pm.
I rarely listen to the radio. Currently in my car I have my Diamond Rio cassette playing.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 3:14 pm.
Rarely listen to pop. A straight up Classic Rock fan.
Iron Maiden, Depp Purple, Rainbow, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Beatles…..
Don’t care for the Stones much.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 3:22 pm.
I always have a few favorite songs. The trouble comes in knowing what they’re called.
I always have to ask my kids, “What’s the name of the song that goes, ‘da-da-dee-da with my heart’?” And then they tell me. And then I download it.
I’m terrible with song titles. But I can quote lines from songs all the live long day.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 3:41 pm.
My problem too! I am reading all these titles and artists, and thinking if someone sang a few bars I am sure I know them, but I don’t know the titles and names. It doesn’t help tht the radio (you know, those old machines that play music in the car)stations do not “call” the titles anymore.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 3:56 pm.
I’m a HUGE alternative rock music fan. It’d be easier to list bands rather than songs, but I’ll try.
Called Out in the Dark – Snow Patrol (the most played song on my iphone, but really I love anything by them.)
Runaways – The Killers
Everybody Talks and Animal – Neon Trees
It’s Time – Imagine Dragons (Again, love anything by them)
Lakehouse – Of Monsters and Men
Does This Mean You’re Moving On and Letters to Georgia – The Airborne Toxic Event
Forever – Back Ted n Ted
Firefly – Ed Sheeran
The Ghost Inside – Broken Bells
I Will Wait and Little Lion Man – Mumford and Sons (nothing like a guy admitted that he really messed up in a song.) and the bango just gets me every time in their music.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:39 pm.
I love Mumford & Sons! And Neon trees keep coming up, so I have to check them out.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:16 pm.
I have Mumford and Sons’ album on pre-order. I hope that they come to LA on tour because I’d love to see them in person!
Definitely check out Neon Trees. They’re music is SO much fun! I love that their drummer is a girl – and she’s GOOD. They put on an amazing show, too.
Posted on August 23, 2012 at 12:30 am.
My current favorite is “sound of a
Million dreams”. By David Nail (a country singer). Every time I hear it I get goosebumps!
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 9:19 pm.
They’ve turned the Muzak back on at the Walmart where I work. This is sometimes a good thing and sometimes a not so good thing. Most of the music is 70′s and 80′s rock, pop and country music.
We all enjoy singing along with Jim Croce’s Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and You Don’t Mess Around With Jim.
At home when I am writing I am listening to Novak’s In the Tatre Mountains. I also listen to Nessun dorma from Turandot by Puccini – sung by a young Pavarotti and also by Paul Potts who won Britain’s Got Talent a few years ago.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 10:44 pm.
My faves of the moment from the radio are Taylor Swift’s new song, “We are never, ever, ever getting back together,” Gotye’s “Somebody that I Used to Know,” and Mumford and Sons’ “Sigh No More.” But I just got a whole bunch of new Celtic Cds, so that will change. I love old ballads, and I could name about fifty that are favorites right now. *G* Plus any album by Enter the Haggis.
Posted on August 22, 2012 at 11:48 pm.
Have you heard Mumford and Sons new single, I Will Wait? It’s SOOO good!
Posted on August 23, 2012 at 12:31 am.
My favorites change with my moods. This week its been Glass by Thompson Square, Blackout by Breathe Carolina, Daughtry and I will have to admit we play Call Me Maybe at work when we need a pick me up.
Posted on August 23, 2012 at 12:03 am.
For a while now I can’t get enough of Florence and the Machine. I have their mtv unplugged on my ipod and it is fabulous.
I love posts like this cause I go through the comments and get a new list of musicians to check out.
I second the Snow Patrol lover. Me, too.
Have you seen any of the OKGo videos? I highly recommend the This Too Shall Pass video. I now have the song on my ipod.
Posted on August 23, 2012 at 10:23 pm.
I’m still starry eyed and Olympics crazy for the US Swim Teams video cover of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson. Cheesy… Yes, makes me smile…. You betcha. It came on the radio the other day and my 9 year old was like “this is the Missy Franklin video song”.
Posted on August 24, 2012 at 2:31 am.
certainly like your web site but you have to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I in finding it very bothersome to tell the reality then again I’ll definitely come again again.
