A Very Steamy Holiday

Okay, Christmas is still a ways off, but I happen to have a Christmas book coming out in two weeks, so I’ve been thinking about the season already. I even have a video for my upcoming book, though it’s kind of short, just a teaser.

Anywho, when I was writing this book, I had one decision to make: should I put steamy sex in the book or not? Because Christmas isn’t usually seen as a steamy holiday (except for that whole “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” thing). Some people think Christmas books should be sentimental and sweet, others love the idea of hot sex at the season. And then there’s me. I like both. I finally went with steamy but perhaps not quite as steamy as my usual books. It’s more simmering sexual tension. I hope.

But writing the book made me curious about what the average reader considered to be the perfect Christmas romance. On the right is the cover for the UK edition of my Christmas book. Clearly British publishers think Christmas should include masquerade balls. :-)

What do you think the perfect Christmas romance should have?

  • Children?
  • Hot sex? Understated sex? No sex?
  • Paranormal elements (vampires, shape-shifters and the like)?
  • Heart-wrenching moments?
  • Humor?
  • Pets?
  • Snow?

Which of these elements are absolutely necessary for you to enjoy a Christmas romance? Or are you more flexible and willing to go with a variety of different types of holiday book? Do you even read them?

Note:  TODAY IS THE THIRD DAY OF BOOKTOBERFEST! Each comment today will be considered as one entry for a random drawing for 1) a $20 gift card, and 2) an autographed ARC of  ’TWAS THE NIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS. All comments throughout the week will also be entered into our grand prize drawing where one lucky commenter will get to choose between a Kindle Fire and a Nook HD.

  1. Mary Preston says:

I laughed at the quip about British publishers & masquerade balls.

I do enjoy reading Christmas stories. I like a touch of magic, humour, flirtation, witty banter & throw in some to die for chemistry. I want to see the sparks fly.

  2. KellyProellocks says:

I am pretty much open for anything with regards to Christmas novels. Christmas is a time for family, love, laughter, magic and blessings so it is all good. You could have a novel with a touch of magic but if you are an author that does erotic novels normally, then maybe ease back on the blatant sexuality with it and let it build until an explosive climax at the end (pun not intended).

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Hey, I KNOW you intended that pun! :-)

I know what you mean about the sex. It takes a certain kind of book for that not to seem odd in a Christmas book.

  3. E.R. says:

I’m open (to a certain extent in some of the aforementioned elements) to them, though it really depends on my mood. There are times in which I might want children in my Christmas romance, or I would want more of the “coupling” in my X-mas books, but again, it depends on the mood.

I do read holiday books, though I might end up reading them months away towards another holiday, but it doesn’t bother me. Whatever my mood wants me to read, that’s what I’ll be doing.

Can’t I keep on saying my mood, hm?

    1. E.R. says:

Oh, man. I forgot to mention this: Nice book trailer, Ms. Jeffries!

      1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks! It’s not the usual full-blown trailer, but glad you like it! Circle of Seven did a good job with it.

  4. Inga Kupp-Silberg says:

    I love Christmas!

    I liked your question!
Talking about reading and Christmas, I think it’s a very good combination. I usually get lots of reading done during these days. To answer your question about books to read during Christmas, then I would personally go for anything except what children and pets! :)
I do read so called seasonal books and since I read very different genres, then I am very flexible. There might be days, when I prefer hot and steamy and sexy books and there are days where I would go for a sweet romance. There is one condition though, I prefer Christmas books having a happy ending! That’s the must, because I don’t want to feel miserable during the Christmas.

    I loved the trailer!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Absolutely! I’m with you that they MUST have a happy ending!

  5. Nickie says:

I also love Christmas stories – as it is, I already read one a couple of days ago (Lady Louisa’s Christmas Knigh by Grace Burrowes).
What should be in those books?
Hm… children should definitely be in them. Although I don’t have any of my own, I like children a lot (and they like me).
Sex is not so important. Sometimes I just skip those pages of hot sex in a romance, because what happens between a man and a woman is better left to your own imagination (call me old-fashioned, but that’s how I feel).
Paranormal elements: not quite the thing, either.
Heart-wrenching comments, humor, pets and snow should be in every Christmas book.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Interesting about the children should definitely be in them. I do like kids in a Christmas book.

  6. Stonehawk says:

well when it comes to xmas books i want happy endings and them to make me feel happy inside once I’m done reading them. like feel like there’s a miracle happening involving xmas and its making people feel good. I don’t know when it comes to the steamy sex. It depends on my mood at the time if I feel like reading that or not.

  7. Susan says:

A bit off topic, but still. Absolutely love the cover, Sabrina! It’s gorgeous. Makes me want to reach out and touch the book (and look inside, of course). Also makes me get lost in a jumble of words such as rich, luxurious, opulent, grand, royal, velvet, passion, kisses… Oops, got a bit carried away there :) Could go on and on. As you see, the cover really triggers the imagination and raises certain expectations about the book. Conjures up an image of a sweeping marble staircase, a young woman, totally ravishing in red velvet gown, descending gracefully to meet her One and Only who instantly recognizes her, even through the mask. A powerful cover. Really suggestive. If it’s job is to grab the reader’s interest and not let go (or, at least, not until she buys the book), well, I must say it is succeeding. Thanks for sharing this image and thus giving a wonderful line of thought to pursue.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks, Susan! That won’t be the cover here. (The cover here is over in the right-hand column). But it is definitely a pretty cover for the UK edition.

  8. Freshechelle says:

A good Christmas story just needs the Christmas spirit and maybe at least one local tradition. It doesn’t even need snow because it could be in a warm setting. The sex can be whatever the author thought fit her story.

Can’t wait to get my mitts on ‘Twas the Night After Christmas.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I don’t have to have snow, either, but that’s because I grew up where there was none!

  9. aida alberto says:

Not everyone who celebrates Christmas has children so it’s good to see a mix of stories for everyone. Can’t wait to read ‘Twas the Night After Christmas.

  10. Renee Pajda says:

I would vote for understated sex, humor and snow. I got your newsletter in the mail with the book mark the other day. Your new book looks awesome and I love the cover! I hope it’s very successful!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Thanks, Renee!

  11. B says:

    Not as steamy???? :( (((((((

Awwww, Sabrina, you’ve got me used to it now! Don’t take it away from me!

Children and snow! And sex! That makes a very Christmasy romance!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Trust me, it’s steamy. But it’s Christmas-y, too. I’m not explaining this very well. It’s just that in this case, the story took precedence over the sex, if that makes sense. *G*

  12. LoriHandeland says:

I used to read Christmas books every Christmas, but there got to be so many. I haven’t read one in years. Until this year, of course. I usually stick to Christmas books by favorite authors these days.

I never thought of what I wanted in a Christmas book beyond a bit of Christmas. Probably whatever makes me like that particular author in the first place and a little snow. Or a masquerade ball.

  13. Kathryn says:

I just want a happy ending in my Christmas books.

  14. Sue says:

I’m open to just about anything in a Christmas book. But I do like books with children in them. There is something magical about a child at Christmas. I love both covers, Sabrina, but the red one…oooh so sensuous! And I can not wait to read ‘Twas The Night After Christmas.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

It’s different-looking, isn’t it? Not the typical Christmas cover.

  15. Melody May says:

Sabrina, I want a variety of stuff in my Christmas books. I think it makes the story all that interesting. However, I’m a firm believer it has to have snow, unless the characters are going to someplace snowy to get away from the snow. However, you still have snow in the story. Overall, I want that feel good feeling. I have to say I really do like the UK cover.

  16. Julia London says:

Snow! There must be snow! Lots of snowed-in, pent-up-desires-boiling-over snow!

  17. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

Now that I have watched the trailer I will be scoping out my Christmas music today! Great trailer! I love heart- wrenching Christmas stories filled with snow, pets, humor, and sex. (Steamy or non, it doesn’t matter to me.) Okay, you can throw in a child if you want! I guess I’m not too picky. Best of luck with ‘Twas the Night After Christmas! It’s on my list!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Hope you like it, Kelly!

  18. Melodi Flakes says:

How about heart-wrenching moments with hot steamy sex in the snow…? Lol! It’s an idea:) I enjoy your ‘intimate’ scenes and think they add so much more to the bond between h&h so hot sex is a huge plus. Of course it’s Christmas so I would enjoy sentimental heart warming moments along with it!:)

  19. Amanda says:

That was a nice video. I don’t read many Christmas novels because Christmas is a huge pain in the rear. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the holidays, baking, and spending time with family, but all the pressure to make it a “perfect holiday” is pretty intense, and then add on heroines that don’t burn the rolls, actually have the time to dress up and attend a masquerade when I can’t seem to get it together for one casual party just sets my teeth on edge. So, I enjoy Christmas books that are a bit more raw, with steamy sex, and perhaps a dog that barfs on the rug because the kids were sneaking said dog rich treats when I wasn’t looking. Yeah, that would be a Christmas book I would read.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

How about a realistic Christmas book with family drama? That’s what MY Christmases always have. :-) And what this book has. No dog, though. I meant to put one, but it never happened. Sometimes the characters just don’t have pets.

And you just gave me an idea for my next book. So thank you!!!

      1. Amanda says:

Bring on the family drama! I’m sure there will be plenty of it to report about on future posts.

As for dogs….I remember when you were finishing the Hellions series that you posted about pets in novels. You ment to put a dog in that series as well. Have you ever thought that maybe the dog represents you? You’re running through the story, herding these characters into a novel, but aren’t in them. Kind of deep, and I do not mean any offense. As I said before, your characters are way too busy to be taking care of a pet. And yes, some characters just aren’t pet people.

You’re welcome for the idea! I look forward to reading all of your books!

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

The thing is, I LOVE dogs. I just can’t have them, because my son is scared of them. I mean, seriously scared.

But I really will put one in a book one day. In fact, it may be the next book!

  20. Maria P says:

Sabrina, the book looks fantastic! I’m a sucker for a happy ending, like a snow covered Winter white with touches of red & green wedding. As for the sex, hot & steamy in front of a roaring fire. Of course, a little humor helps in any situation, like maybe fumbling to get each other’s clothes off.

  21. AmyS says:

I have never really thought of Christmas books as any different then what I would normally expect form an author. I think sexual tension or hot steamy sex is always good, no matter the time of year. I do like my Christmas stories to have snow, and some Christmas traditions throughout. Most of all I just want a believable HEA.

I look forward to reading your Christmas story!

  22. Julie Kornhausl says:

I have to admit that I don’t go out of my way to read Christmas romances. I’m not really sure why that is, either. I have plenty of Christmas books on TBR pile, I just never got in the mood to read any of them. I’ll have to do something about that and dig into my pile and do some holiday reading!!!

The last Christmas book that I read was Lisa Kleypas’s A Wallflower Christmas. It’s such a great story! But I’m afraid that was the last holiday themed romance that I’ve read.

Happy Holidays to all of you
    ~Julie (kornhsl@yahoo.com)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

You’ll have to remedy that situation, Julie! I love Christmas books myself. That’s why I had to write one!

  23. alyssa says:

i always love the christmas stories especially the anthologies. I love a christmas book with children’s high jinks to bring the couple together, and mud covered dogs running into the house to piss off the mean mother etc… As far as sex, it’s christmas so i am thinking sweet wonderful sex. not too hot but definetly not hidden behind closed doors. I dont celebrate christmas so for me these books invite me to join the holiday and become apart of all the traditions.

  24. Julie says:

I love to read Christmas romances. I like a the romance, the good steamy bits, humor, simmering tension, family, a little magic and lots of fun in the snow. I think it’s fun to read seasonal books every once in a while, and Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year.

  25. Kelly says:

If Christmas is a time of love, then sex must be a part of it…then there’s that whole unwrapping “presents” bit. :) I love Christmas romances, but I expect snow (mainly because in TN we never see it), humor, fun, sentiment, and hot sex. :) I look forward to reading this one Sabrina!

  26. LSUReader says:

I do enjoy reading Christmas romances. Characters are what make a book special for me, no matter when the book is set.

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of your new book, and I loved it! GREAT characters, story, everything. Thanks so much.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Aww, I’m so glad you liked it!!!

  27. Madeline Hunter says:

I love the cover of this book, Sabrina.
For me a Christmas romance needs to have atmosphere. I need to see and smell Christmas. Snow is good, and a heart-wrenching moment helps too. I can enjoy the story no matter what the heat level.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Having the right atmosphere really is an issue. It’s hard to get it, too, in the Regency, since they didn’t do as much with Christmas as we do.

  28. Liz B. says:

Well, I really like sentimentality in my Christmas romances. I don’t care one way or another about pets and I don’t generally read paranormals too much so that’s right out for me (even kindly ghosts and things like that). Certainly cold weather and snow is good. Children don’t need to be there but can add to the magic of the season if they are. Yours looks like it really fits th bill of what I like in a Christmas book, I can’t wait to read it!

    1. Liz B. says:

      *the

And as far as sex in them goes, I do like less in my Christmas books for some reason. I love the build up and the tension though and witty banter is a must. You ladies excel at that and I love it!

      1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I know what you mean. For me, I think it’s that I want a Christmas book to do so many other things at the same time that it’s hard to fit in a lot of steamy sex.

Don’t get me wrong, I have it, but it’s not the ONLY thing in the book, by any means.

  29. Olivia Kelly says:

Yes, to all of the above. I like all kinds of elements in my Xmas stories, depending on my mood. Congrats on the upcoming release… :)

  30. Miranda says:

I love Christmas romances. Generally they’re sweet, filled with the joy of the season, or a scrooge-ish person learning to feel the joy of the season, and lots of happy endings, which is the best part :-) . They can have any of the elements you mentioned, but I lean away from both uber-steamy and too many heart-wrenching moments. Mostly I guess I prefer the lighter sort of romance for a holiday book, probably because what I generally want is a somewhat lighthearted happy story to give me warm fuzzies about the holidays.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I heard someone else say that, too–not too much heart-wrenching. I don’t know where this one falls on that scale. I think it’s emotional, but it still does have lots of light moments.

  31. Aly P says:

I’m from the “not choosy” group :D I like my Holidays-themed books to have everything, be it humor, sex, normal people, PNR characters or a mystery :D

    Great trailer Ms.Jeffries!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Thanks, Aly!

  32. Sandi in OH says:

I like all things Christmas except the paranormal. Somehow werewolves, shift-changers, vampires just don’t fit into my holiday. I love to read Christmas books.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I think Christmas paranormals are something that hardcore paranormal readers like. I like paranormal books, but I don’t really want a Christmas paranormal.

  33. KathyB says:

Generally, I don’t search out Christmas books. However, one of my favorite books of all time is “A Christmas Promise” by Mary Balogh. I think why it resonated with me was it had some very heart wrenching moments.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I like the heart-wrenching myself. At Christmas I want sentimental!

  34. Jen B says:

Can’t I have it all? Really! Looking forward to getting your book.

  35. Cathy says:

I love Christmas books. I’ll take anything in them.
    cathyann40@yahoo.com

  36. Pamiam says:

Any of the above elements are good but not maybe all in the same book. :-) Kids, snow and pets always go together well. I like my romance so I want some steam up the windows scenes. Just give me a HEA and I am a happy girl.

    s

    1. Pamiam says:

I almost forgot, I got my bookmarks also. I have one of them in use already. Thanks!

      1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Oh, good! Glad you can use it!

  37. Barbara Samuel says:

    I like snow. And emotional.

  38. Ria Ritchey says:

I think a great story is the only thing needed for a great holiday book. Sure you can add in Santa, snow or winter elements, but if the story isn’t good, the elements are null and void.

The elements of a holiday season are something you can set the tone for the book within the first few pages. Everything else must be carried with the characters and how they interact with each other.

  39. BR says:

Christmas stories are fantastic! They just add an additional dimension to a great romance with the holiday season as the backdrop. Including children can be a plus if they add to the story- not just as props.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I agree about the children. They MUST be integral!

  40. Philomena D says:

Love Christmas stories or any Holiday story just as long as it is well-written. The American cover is sweet but the UK cover is spicy!

  41. Stefanie D says:

I’m open to almost anything as long as there is love. Otherwise it can be about children, the relationship between family members, there might be a little magic in it, or people who don’t believe in the Christmas spirit anymore,…

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I’m like that, too. I’m willing to be transported, no matter how it’s done!

  42. Martha B says:

I just love a good story well told; I am not particular about the elements included. Historical Romances are my favorite genre (so your books meet that criteria quite nicely). The last Christmas story I read was Lady Sophie’s Christmas Wish by Grace Burrows.

I liked the setting for the book, the time frame and the mistaken identity twist. (The hero thought Sophie was the housekeeper instead of the daughter of a duke.) Both of them wanted to be loved for themselves rather than externals like fame, fortune, etc.

I look forward to your book! (Nice video, too).

  43. Lois M. says:

My only requirement is actually not on the list – when it comes to books that advertise themselves as Christmas related books, and not just a book that takes place in December, Christmas has to be (what I’ve always thought of as) a major character. I actually get disappointed when a fine book with a super story is being packaged as such, but Christmas is just the time of year the story is being held. Crazy, but hey, so am I. ;)

    Lois

    1. Lois M. says:

PS – forgot to add that other than that, I’ll take any or all of the above in the posting above. I’ve read Christmas books that are: steamy and sweet; kids and no kids; lots of snow and in Hawaii. All is fair in love and Christmas books. ;)

      Lois

    2. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I completely agree! If it’s billed as a Christmas book, Christmas has to be part of it. It’s a big part of mine, because that’s what I like!

  44. Angela says:

Christmas stories for me should have humor, sex, snow, pets (esp. cats),a good story, some mention of the holiday and traditions of the time and place where book is set.

Love the cover and the trailer.

Kisses under the mistletoe would be nice too.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Funny you should say that about the mistletoe. For some reason, I never was able to work that in, and it’s kind of a standard in Christmas regencies. Maybe next one!

  45. Kris L. says:

I’ve never really thought of Christmas books as different than any other romance–I just want a good story and a happy ending.

  46. Rebe says:

Humor, pets, and snow. Yup, definitely those three elements! I’m not a big fan of angst, especially at the holidays!

  47. Connie Fischer says:

I guess my answer to your question isn’t necessarily listed. To me, Christmas is a time to relax and enjoy family. This means no friction, worry, holding grudges and such. It’s a time for forgiveness, happiness and refreshment. I like to feel as though my soul is renewed and I am ready to go forth into the New Year with a calm attitude and a feeling of happiness.

The trailer for “Twas the Night After Christmas” was so sweet. It expressed what I feel Christmas is all about: to bring people together again. I am so looking forward to reading it, Sabrina.

Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking blog today and congratulations on your latest release! Best wishes to you (in advance) for a wonderful Christmas.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Thanks, Connie! I hope you enjoy the book!

  48. Cheri Champagne says:

I think that Christmas romance novels should absolutely have sex! Christmas isn’t only for spending time with family, but it’s for spending time with your spouse as well, It’s great for cuddles and moments of the heart, but heck, if you’re in a relationship why WOULDN’T you have sex at Christmas?

As for the other things… Living in Vancouver, BC, we don’t often get snow for Christmas, but it would be nice if we did! Pets, kids, and family are to be expected (most likely) as well. :) And some humour is nice.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

We almost NEVER get snow here in NC at Christmas. I think it happened maybe once in the whole time I’ve lived here (15 years).

  49. AmyA says:

Ooh, for Christmas, steamy sex is good, but it’s good just about any time. If there isn’t a heart fluttering moment, though, it’s not worth it. It can be heart wrenching, as long as it ends well and magic is definitely a plus!

  50. kris says:

definitely the heart wrenching moments. Snow is always helpful too. Sex…ummm, yeah. :)

  51. Christy P says:

I love the idea of a child in the book, to help the adults look at Christmas through a child’s eyes. And the whole Grinch thing works – a hard-hearted person discovering the magic of love. Can’t wait to read this book!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I love the Scrooges/Grinches, too. They’re so much fun!

  52. Carla C says:

I have already started getting into the spirit – reading and searching for more books to read that involve the Christmas season! I thin I am worse than the stores that put Christmas cards out before Halloween candy, but there is just that special something that tends to come out within the pages of a book set for the season.
I am an equal opportunity reader – from the sweet and sentimental to the sensual and sexual. I do prefer the snow aspect, the celebration (from snapdragon to the Yule to trimming a tree and seeing Santa). I think that the season alone brings me a feeling of hope and joy to have books set during that time warms my spirit. Christmas is the time of miracles – and what better than a story of love.

  53. Sheridan says:

68 days ’til Christmas!!!! I love the UK cover, btw.

Lemme see.. my perfect Christmas story?

Lots of fluffy white snow, cozy fires, beautiful kisses, a touch of magic, some thoughtful gifts, a wish or two coming true (especially if they are in regard the couple getting together), laughter, some silliness. Maybe a kid or two, pets welcome. Steamy sex is fine as well.

I want Christmas stories that make me smile and feed the image I have of the holiday season in my head.

  54. Betty Hamilton says:

I adore Christmas romances! …especially with snow, Christmas trees, singing Carols, and PLENTY of HOT sex…. with egg nog, of course! I can’t wait to read this one!!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Egg nog! Shoot, I knew I forgot something! :-)

  55. May says:

Love christmas stories. I need lots of food, snow, kisses, hot sex…etc. :) In books and real life too!

  56. Savannah Miller says:

Love your book trailer :) !! I can’t wait to read this!

I think the perfect Christmas Story just needs to be magical. Oh and snow never hurts ;)
And yes I read Holiday books! Its a tradition for me, after the hubby and I go and put our boys presents under the tree I normally make us hot chocolate and I read a book and he watches A Christmas Story….. YES every Christmas Eve he watches the same movie!

Oh man now you have me excited about Christmas and its over 2 months away LOL

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Everyone seems to love A Christmas Story. I like it, but it’s not one of my go-to holiday movies. Mine is Love Actually. I always cry at the end!

      1. Savannah Miller says:

Sadly I am yet to see Love Actually!! I will have to check it out this Christmas :)

  57. SuzyQ says:

Snow, it must have snow for me to get into the Christmas spirit. Everything else I’m flexible on.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I loved spending time with you last Saturday, SuzyQ! It was great fun.

      1. SuzyQ says:

        Same here!

  58. Petula Winmill says:

I think the perfect xmas romance should have Hot sex, Humour and snow would be nice , here in my part of Spain I stand no chance of snow. Might get the rest if I’m lucky.

  59. Erin B says:

Any time is a good time for hot, steamy sex. Since Christmas is such a wonderful, magical time, I think the sex should be extra steamy. Talk about a great present under the tree! (Just don’t wake the kids.) I am so looking forward to another one of your books.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Sex is ALWAYS a nice present. :-)

  60. Cathy P says:

I love Christmas stories from my favorite authors. I am flexible, but they should have snow in them.

  61. CateS says:

I love Christmas for it’s magic for children, the fun and excitement of their hopes and the humor from the adults providing that for their children… regardless of the ages of their children… Parties, songs, balls, mystery, all play into a good story.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Do you ever read Christmas mystery novels? It just occurred to me that I never have. Weird.

      1. Carol says:

Hmm…The only one that comes to mind is Plum Pudding Murder by Joanne Fluke. I love that series. Almost as much as I love The Swanlea Spinsters! ;)

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I really don’t think I’ve ever read a Christmas mystery. Or at least not one I remember.

  62. Kelly Tinder says:

I love to read books about holidays in and around that holiday. Christmas should definitely contain romance (and sex is part of that). It should be about love, family, children, pets, and be heart-warming/wrenching, something to draw out the strong emotions felt at such a beautiful season such as Christmas.

  63. Brandi says:

I love all kinds of christmas stories. The biggest thing you have to include is a happy ending with the family, be it a new blended family, a new family, her family, his family, or a combination of all of the above. But don’t forget that it is a romance, I still love me some romance. so much that you can do with it.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Yes, I like the blended families, too. It’s so nice to see that happen!

  64. Winnie P says:

All of the above, except the vamps & shape-shifters. A little magic is ok. Christmas is definitely a time for family.

  65. Karen H in NC says:

Loved the trailer and personally I like the American cover best. Don’t see what the mask has to do with Christmas. But that could be just me.

Anyway, can I vote for all of the above….except for SNOW…I hate snow…that’s why I moved to NC from MI…to get away from snow!

Can’t wait to get my copy of this book. I see you will appearing at Lady Jane’s Salon in November. Will you be reading from this book? I haven’t made a point of attending one yet, but for that one I most definitely will be there..with Christmas bells on!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

LOL, Karen, about the snow! A little of it DOES go a long way, :-)

Yes, I’ll be reading from this book. I’m looking forward to it! It’ll launch my Christmas season.

  66. alisha woods says:

Fun, laughter, children, sex if it fits well with the storyline. Snowball fights……..as long as the story is great it doesn’t matter

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

No snowball fights in this one, but I do like those myself!

  67. Rita Wray says:

I love Christmas stories. My favorite are the ones with kindness and caring.

  68. Laura DeLeon says:

I love christmas romances. My favorite is when you can revisit a large family involved series. It is nice to take another peek into their lives . Fictional as they may be :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

This is sort of loosely connected to my Hellion series. Gabriel Sharpe and Jackson Pinter show up!

  69. jcp says:

I like heart wrenching moments and that good vibe holiday feeling. Sex is optional.

  70. Angie E says:

I’m pretty open and flexible about what I want in a Christmas romance. I’m just happy with a good book in my hand :)

  71. Gretchen says:

Christmas should be about family. If the characters aren’t married yet or don’t have children yet, then they should be going home to a family reunion (or maybe missing one). Of course snow, and balls, and lots of decorating and food. As for the more intimate parts, well, that’s up to you. What’s appropriate is going to depend on the story and how you write it.

I’m looking forward to your newest book!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I agree–Christmas should always be about family! Even if sometimes the families are crazy, LOL!

  72. Janae says:

I think that as long as it feels like Christmas, everything you listed can work in any book. Although, I have to admit that I’m over the paranormal thing.

I loved Eloisa James’ An Affair Before Christmas because of the heartwrenching moments because it was in those moments John and Poppy really fell in love with each other.

Grace Burrowes has 2 great Christmas stories, too.

    1. Haley says:

I love Grace Burrowes’ Christmas books!

    2. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I haven’t read Grace Burrowes yet. I’ll have to try her sometime!

      1. Janae says:

I LOVE Grace Burrowes. I found her accidentally and have bought every single book she has written. She was SO nice at the RWA signing.

  73. Suzanne Enoch says:

I just wrote my first Christmas book! I definitely wanted snow and ice skating and mistletoe — I even set “Rules to Catch a Devilish Duke” in Yorkshire just so I could have snow and ice.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Isn’t it fun writing a Christmas book? I really enjoyed it, especially since I began writing it AT Christmas!

  74. Ann Finger says:

I love the idea of Christmas – and enjoy reading Christmas stories and different traditions. Growing up in the Midwest – Christmas means snow and fun – growing older, it meant worrying about travel to grandparents….
And if we’re snowed in, a Christmas romance is perfect while our impromptu dinner is in the oven!

  75. Haley says:

Love, LOVE, LOVE Christmas books!!!!! I collect them all year round, so that as soon as Advent starts I have a steady stream that gets me through the holiday season. For me, Christmas is such a huge sign of hopes and blessings–and most of the holiday books you read have a little more of that sentiment to them. Now as far as elements in the book–I’m happy as long as the main characters have a nice holiday together–otherwise I’m game for anything. Congrats on your Christmas novel–I’m excited to read it!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

How smart of you to start early stockpiling your supply! That’s what I do with Christmas presents. :-)

  76. Linda Scarchuk says:

How about all of the above? I think of Christmas as a warm and fuzzy holiday that can be sweet and warm but sexy and sentimental too. Love it all

  77. Sherri Stephens says:

    Hot Sex!!

  78. Janice Hougland says:

To me, the perfect holiday romance is when your lover first tells you he loves you, or better yet, pops “the big question.” I’ve never lived where it snows so this could happen anywhere for me…a ranch…a farm…on a camp out…on a shopping trip…but there have to be Christmas carols ringing in the air and the smell of wood smoke on the breeze. What a romantic combo! Sigh . . .

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Christmas music is a BIG one for me. I have it planning throughout the season!

  79. Dana Piazzi says:

First of all let me start out by saying, I love Sabrina Jeffries’s books, and I am sure this one will be just as great as the others I have read. I think a perfect holiday romance will have snow and heartwarming moments as well as humor, because we should never take life too seriously. Christmas itself is better with snow. I wouldn’t mind if I had 70 and 80 degree days every day of the year, except for Christmas day, it’s just meant to have snow. As for heartwarming moments, I feel like they are a given in a romance. Something that makes you relate to or envy the characters love.

  80. Janel Gradowski says:

It often takes me a bit to get into the Christmas spirit, so I love reading holiday stories. A nice bit of steamy sex is all the better. I live in Michigan and it just doesn’t seem like Christmas if there isn’t snow on the ground. :)

  81. Valerie says:

I love Christmas romance novels, at any point in the year. I will say though my favorites depend on my mood, usually one of two. The first would be romantic, little sex, but lots of sexual tension with snow and the “holiday” feeling…. these are typically historically in my brain but sometimes contemporary. The second are the hot and steamy kind that use the holiday as a backdrop but Christmas isn’t the focus.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

That sounds like how I divide them sometimes. But I’m always willing to try something new!

  82. Vickie Bates says:

I love Christmas books in several different genres. Families(related by blood or not), snow, children, humor, and less sex. I also agree it should be CHRISTMAS and not just a mention of the season.

  83. Jana Ferguson says:

I too love Christmas Romance. For me Christmas is fresh, clean, something thrilling, something magical, there is a lightness about it, a kindness. All those elements are what I like in my Christmas romances too.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Kindness is KEY for me. I want to see a lot of kindness. Or people learning to be kind to each other.

  84. Carrie says:

Christmas is not the same unless there is snow. I do love a white Christmas. I also like humor since Christmas is a fun, cherry holiday. I would not equate Christmas with paranormal elements but I am open to the idea.

  85. Kelli Jo Calvert says:

I think for me, it’s just a good romance, maybe a stranding in the snow, maybe a cameo from Santa, and most definitely a HEA. :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Oh, yeah, if there’s no HEA, I’m not interested.

  86. Kim says:

I do enjoy Christmas romances. I’m pretty open as to what is a part of that storyline, but I want chemistry between the hero and heroine. Snow and pets are fun additions.

  87. Kristina R says:

I think a Christmas romance needs snow, children, pets, humor and most definitely sex. lots and lots of steamy sex

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      LOL, Kristina!

  88. Chanpreet says:

Hmm….my ideal Christmas story would has heart wrenching moments/miracle, perhaps a little magic, snow, understated sex, animals, and slight humor. Plus a dash of the spirit of giving and sharing. Plus eggnog. I love eggnog. :p

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Miracles are good. And I like eggnog, but I don’t think it’s a Regency drink.

      1. Chanpreet says:

They don’t know what they were missing! :p

Mulled wine or a hot toddy can be used instead. It’s kind of chilly. I would love one of these right about nowQ

  89. Kristi says:

I’m flexible and open to variety!

  90. Jill says:

I can’t believe it’s time for Christmas stories but I think it’s getting us in the mood for the season. I like the Christmas books, esp. with lots of romance!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I think it’s a bit early myself. But since retailers take Christmas books off the shelf after the 25th, publishers have to put them out early so they get a chance to sell.

  91. Tonya Baker says:

I don’t particularly care for holiday books in general, but I happily read anything you write. :) As long as there is enough steamy sex to melt the snow, add a generous helping of each!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Aww, thanks, Tonya.

  92. elsiehogarth says:

I love Christmas romance books. They make me smile and get into the holiday spirit.

Necessary for me, for a holiday book, would definitely include children (to make the hero and heroine remember when they were that age and they also make great chaperones), pets, humor, lots of mistletoe for kissing and what it could lead to…the understated sex, drinking lots of wassail, apple cider or egg nog(all spiked), snow for sleigh riding, snowball fights and looking for the yule log.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

It was great to get a chance to spend time with you last weekend, Elsie! Thanks for the cool gifties!

  93. Anne Tjaden says:

I like a Christmas romance – why not? I like romance, period! I still vote for steam, but also tender mushy moments. And humor, of course. And if a cat finds its way into the story, I’d be O.K. with that.

  94. Chris M says:

Christmas romance to me is more about spiritual connection and heart warming sentimentality. Don’t get me wrong I like steamy but in Christmas novels I like it toned down a notch.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I can understand that, believe me.

  95. Lori P says:

I love any and all Christmas stories. I can’t wait to read this one. Adding it to my list :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Hope you enjoy it, Lori!

  96. Maria D. says:

I love holiday stories and pretty much like all kinds – sweet, spicy and super hot – doesn’t really matter as long as it’s well written, has a good cover and is a romance:) Thanks for the giveaway!

  97. Kate Mc says:

I like to have snow in a Christmas story – that way the couple can snuggle in front of a fire. Steamy is okay at Christmas time and I like humor and a family coming in at some point. I love reading Christmas stories during the season. I have some that I reread every year. I look forward to having a new one to read this year! :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      I reread some myself!

  98. Kate Mc says:

    btw – love the teaser!

  99. Gmapeony says:

I love Christmas book. Yes to snow, humor and undertated sex.
    gmapeony@yahoo.com

Thanks for the wonderful contest you are running. Giving us a chance for some early Christmas gifts.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

That’s what we goddesses are all about–spreading the joy!

  100. JanieC says:

I definitely expect hot sex and maybe throw in a ghost for good measure.

  101. LauraR says:

I don’t care what season the story is set in as long as it’s a good story with a great HEA. What genre I read depends on my mood. That said, I love both covers, with the Brit version edging out the US. Can’t wait!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I think it’s fascinating that so many people are liking the British one!

  102. Phyllis Lamken says:

It depends on the story. If the story is sentimental, less steamy. If the story is more robust and merry, make it steamier.

  103. Roseanna Crawford says:

I love Christmas love stories, but I’m not a fan of the paranormal elements
all the other ingredients and hot sex can’t go wrong.

    thanks for the trailer

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      You’re welcome!

  104. Stacy S says:

I’m pretty flexible. Got to have lots of snow though.

  105. pjpuppymom says:

As many people I know refer to me as the “Christmas Elf,” it should come as no surprise that I adore Christmas romances in all their forms. Kids, big families, small families, no families, sweet courting, steamy sex, snow, humor, pets, heart-wrenching moments…I love them all. I have Christmas keepers that I re-read every year and new ones that I start reading in October.

I finished an ARC of ‘Twas the Night After Christmas this week and love, love, love it. It’s going to my keeper shelf to be re-visited again and again. Thanks, Sabrina!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Awww, PJ, that’s so great! Thanks so much for telling me! I’m glad you loved it.

One thing that I bet you and I agree on is that Christmas should always have chocolate. :-)

      1. pjpuppymom says:

Most definitely! Chocolate is front and center at Chez PJ during the holidays. :)

  106. evlqn says:

For myself if a book is well written it can have any or all of these things. Although having heavy duty, light-weight, or no sex in the same book might get a little tricky; I have no doubt the goddesses could pull it off. The only thing I require of a book is for the author to know how to write and the characters been smarter than a stump and semi-likable. If the heroine has more hair than wit, not good; and if the hero is a jerk, I start hoping the heroine buys a puppy and goes home.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

eviqn, well, I certainly agree with you about the heroine having to be smart and the hero not being a jerk!

  107. cail says:

I’m with SuzyQ on snow. Other than that, I couldn’t care less. I don’t buy books just for the holiday aspect.

  108. Katrina says:

I think romance books in general mostly have sex in them, but for me what makes it good is the banter/interaction between the characters! That’s what makes the difference for me, but I think that for a Christmas novel…yes there should be snow for sure! Maybe two characters snowed in by a storm and forced to a secluded cabin somewhere! Yep, I like it!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Good banter is my favorite!

  109. Cindy C. says:

Cookies! Oh wiat, been reading the Jill Shalvis blog. I like a Christmas romance to have the couple doing holiday things together. Attending parties, getting presents, going to see a public tree and have hot chocolate. I’m fine with sex being in a Christmas themed book if it fits the story.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

My hero and heroine go to a Christmas fair. Does that count?

      1. Cindy C. says:

Definitely! Can’t wait to read it!

  110. Joyce B. says:

I love Christmas stories as they show that there can be re-birth of anything including Love. It does need to have humor, snow, laughter and at least some discreet sex. It is a romance that we want to read :-)

ps. Already pre-ordered for my kindle!

  111. Archer says:

I don’t buy a book because its a holiday book I just read whatever story I like.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I understand that perspective, believe me.

  112. Brandy says:

Used to be Christmas stories were sweet, but now? Well, anything goes I guess. I prefer humor and you HAVE to have snow. Pets are always welcome as well, but that’s just me-I have LOTS of pets. *g*

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I will definitely have to add pets next time! :-)

  113. Alisa says:

snow, sex, and heart-warming, heart-wrenching moments

  114. ladydawgfan says:

I am a big fan of the Christmas romance novels and it seems like I have a huge collection of them to prove it! I am generally open to anything “Happy” in my Christmas romances, nothing too gothic or dark, no shape shifting or vampires, no Christmas murders to solve. Just a nice romance, a little angst to stir things up and a happy ending under the mistletoe.

As for the S-E-X issue, what could be better than gettin’ it on in front of a roaring fire while snow is falling outside??!! Yeah, it’s Christmas, but let’s face it, what do you think it is that keeps ol’ Santa so jolly??!!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

LOL about keeping Santa jolly! Yes, Mrs. Santa is VERY important!

  115. RobinRBL says:

I like a variety I guess, but not anthologies! They are too short.

I like humor, I like resolution. I love it when the one person (lets say the heroine) has hard something happen (loss of job, broken relationship, etc) and she comes back to the hometown to heal and re-evaluate and meets up with a hunky hunk of a man and voila!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I’m one of the few romance readers, I think, who really enjoys anthology stories. They’re like a snack cake for me!

  116. Wendy Anderson says:

I like a good Christmas story. Some romance, a good laugh and what is Christmas without snow!

  117. Patoct says:

I like many of the factors you mentioned: sex, pets, snow, kids, humor, heartwrenching moments and maybe a miracle.

  118. Christina Freas says:

Love the trailer, you feel for the son, but what’s going on with the mother?!?! Gotta read!
Christmas books are awesome, because they have the magic of Christmas, something dramatic happens, and threatens Christmas and all it represents, but then the magic couple saves the day, saves christmas and spreads joy to others who need a little joy! Just awesome……

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

That’s just the kind of Christmas book I like! Dramatic reunions and the restoration of love and happiness. *G*

  119. Debbie says:

I love them, I read them. I simply love the holidays!!! My daughter is named Noel and she was born in March. I will read any but I do love to have some snow in my story. Always romantic!
Like your trailer but, I love your Will and Jane talking about your cover. He is such a cutie. :O)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Glad you liked both the trailer and Will and Jane!

  120. Eileen A-W says:

Snow, twinkling stars, family & lots of love! I’m not a paranormal so you can skip that one.

  121. Josie Hink says:

I need the couple to be likable and lovable I want to see them come together as a couple that are right for each other not forced. To be able to make me go through it with them that when they finally are together I am crying tears of joy….A heartwarming story to read w a cup of hot cocoa makes a great Christmas story

  122. Looney Tune says:

Christmas is one of the times that I actually really enjoy anthologies. I like Christmas themed anthology romances because I usually get a nice variety, and the stories are quick reads between the shopping and the baking.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Me, too. I really enjoy those Christmas-themed collections.

  123. Jo says:

I’m all for the steamy! I have to say that for me a Christmas story has to have humor in it it. It is such a stressful time a year – you really need a reason to laugh.

  124. Barbara Elness says:

The perfect Christmas romance should have humor, snow, and a pet or two doesn’t hurt. I like to lighten it up that time of year so humor is especially important. :D

  125. Wendy says:

I happen to think a book with a Christmas theme should be heart wrenching. I happen to think of the holiday season as depressing, because I lost my grandmother shortly after Christmas and the depression has stuck with me for over 50 years.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Aw, Wendy, sorry to hear that. It’s so hard to lose a loved one at Christmas.

  126. Emerald says:

I think the perfect Christmas novel should have everything that was listed but the sex should definitely be hot (just my opinion :D ). I have several Christmas books that I love to read around Christmas that have different elements to them. It just depends on my mood which one is my favorite at the time :) .

  127. Emerald says:

By the way, I adore the book trailer. Great work Ms. Jeffries! I look forward to reading it :) .

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Thanks! Hope you like it.

  128. Denise says:

Those four novella books that come out at Christmas were some of my favorites especially during college. I love the snow and the holidays. They were so happy and joyous. I could grab one and read a story between classes as a pick me up. Living in the mountains we get so much snow, that you could find the joy in being snowed in.

Now with e-readers I get alot of books that take place “Down Under” I still can’t get used to them celebrating on the beach.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I know! I grew up in Thailand, and it was always in the 70′s for Christmas. I got used to warm Christmases.

  129. MaryC says:

I like having children and pets in Christmas stories – snow is nic but not necessary.

  130. bn100 says:

I’m open if they include all of the above or a combination of the above.

  131. ki pha says:

I like Christmas to have children and pets, you know the feeling of family. there should also be heart-wrenching moments plus humor to brighten the season, and you got to have snow. Sex will have to play a part of the romance of the season of course.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Humor is a big one for me, too.

  132. Gwyn says:

I’m a Christmas junky, so I’ll read ALMOST anything having to do with the season. My lines, however, while few, are thick and impenetrable. I’ve no problem with sex, per se, but doing it with Santa, his reindeer, or any sacred personage is beyond yuck.

My favorite Christmas stories always have a touch of Christmas Magic—that indefinable something that speaks of miracles and hope, the very message of the season. It’s my experience that Christmas Magic exists, often where and when we least expect it, so a story lacking it tends to miss the mark.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

LOL, Gwyn! Yes, I would think a Christmas book in which the heroine does it with Santa might be problematic. And don’t even get me started on the reindeer, LOL!

I love Christmas magic myself. And I do believe in it!

  133. Sonny says:

How about tying into the plot what Christmas is really all about? Redemption. Run this along side the characters who are searching, who are embattled with themselves, searching for their own redemption, forgiveness and, of course, that happily ever after. Children are fine. Paranormal – no. A touch of magic? Yes!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

My book is about redemption, so I agree, totally!

  134. Karen H near Tampa says:

Yes, I enjoy Christmas/holiday romances and I even read them in different seasons!

Paranormal elements, children, and pets are not required but it’s okay if they’re there. Humor, definitely required, and hot sex very much appreciated. So, basically, I’m flexible. I want a good story and good stories can be made of very different elements.

  135. Cindy A says:

I love the Christmas themed books. It puts me in the mood. Paranormal, time travel, romance sex, pets-if the story works, but mainly, just a good story, with a few surprises, lovable characters who are smart and don’t WHINE!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Don’t like the whiners, eh? :-)

  136. fedora says:

I love reading Christmas romances year round ;) I don’t think I have any must-have elements except a good story and one that warms my heart and reminds me of my favorite parts of the holidays–love and generosity and ideally friends/family. But those can be interpreted and expressed so many different ways!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      That’s so true!

  137. chey says:

I read CChristmas stories. Children, humour and
heart-wrenching moments seem right for the season.
Snow-if it snows where the book is set.

  138. Quilt Lady says:

I love Christmas books. I enjoy children, Heart-wrenching moments and also some humor in the books. Also some snow and pets works well.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I bet you wouldn’t mind some quilts in there, too, huh? My sister likes quilts in a book, because she’s a quilter.

  139. Johanna Jochum says:

    1. hot sex
    2. humor
    3. hot sex
    4. snow (optional)

LOL! Love Christmas stories! Thanks for sharing with us today!

  140. Sharlene Wegner says:

Romance with some sex, steamy or not, some heart-wrenching, but not too stressful. Humor is always good. HEA a must!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      HEA’s are always a must, I agree!

  141. donna ann says:

Generally, I don’t look for anything different in a story set during Christmas than any other romance. It all boils down to a good story between the h/h that are likeable ands with a hea, along the way some good loving and fun &/or adventure should also occur :-)

  142. marie scearce says:

I enjoy christmas books with that little bit of magic. Some of my favorites are where child(ren) of widow(er) wants to make their parent happy and works to find them someone to make the surviving parent happy again. The happy ending of the new family celebrating the holidays together. Add humor/angst/laughter/tears and I am happy. I know mushy and sentamental but that’s how i feel over the holidays.
Can’t wait to read “Twas the night after Christmas”. Plan to read over Thanksgiving Holidays.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Marie, I like those, too!

  143. dbrown3400 says:

Steamy books laced with humor are good ingredients for any story, so would definitely work at Christmastime. A well-told tale with Christmas elements works in any season.

  144. Tina G says:

I traditionally like to keep my Christmas stories sweet and fun. That said, after seeing the trailer for your book,it has made my Christmas to-read list.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Oh, good, I hope you enjoy it!

  145. JoAnna B says:

I actually haven’t read too many Christmas romances. But I think I’m pretty flexible. I do love paranormal so I vamp or shifter would be nice. :)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

It would certainly make for an interesting change, wouldn’t it?

  146. randi marshall says:

I think a combination of steamy sex, simmering lust, humor and fun makes for a perfect read whatever the season. Love to see Hanukkah thrown in somehow somewhere.:-) in the end though if its your name on the cover it will be marvelous. You never miss Sabrina!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Aw, thanks, Randi! A Hanukkah romance would be interesting, wouldn’t it?

  147. nilli says:

all i ask for is hot sex and a hot hero makes my holiday reading all the better.

  148. Bobi says:

I like varity in christmas books but must have are family, a hint of the magic of the season and SNOW! Oh and some yummy sex scenes never hurt :-)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Glad to hear everyone likes the hot sex!

  149. Charlene says:

To me, a good Christmas story is one in which there is a happy ending for everyone!

  150. Kathleen O says:

A good Christmas book has to have kids, romance, a little sex, and a good heart wrenching HEA story…

  151. JenM says:

I love holiday themed books, especially if they have some element of poignancy to them. I also like it when kids are included, although normally I can take or leave them in romances. I just think it is so much better to see the holiday through a child’s eyes.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I really enjoy kids in a Christmas romance, too.

  152. LouisaCornell says:

I am a big fan of Christmas romance novels, especially Christmas / historical romance novels! I have a whole shelf of them in my library and I always drag them out to read around the holidays. They help me to get into the holiday spirit which is not easy when you work in retail!

I love all sorts of Christmas romances from sweet to sassy to spicy hot. I like lots of holiday food, holiday decorating, snowy days and even snowier nights, children, dogs, crazy relatives and plenty of sexual tension.

And by the way, having read Twas the Night After Christmas (ARC – Thank you, Sabrina!) I can tell you it is a delightfully sweet, romantic, sexy, funny combination of everything that is memorable about Christmas. Camilla and Pierce are such a great characters and their love story is so much fun, so beautiful and so wonderfully woven into the story of Pierce’s reconciliation with his mother. One of my very favorite Christmas reads!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Awww, Louisia, thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

  153. JanD says:

I don’t really seek out Christmas romance novels. Reading a specific book that coincides with a holiday isn’t my thing. As long as a story is engaging, it’s all good.

  154. Joan Wehmhoefrer says:

I am thinking snow, humor and sex, and cookies, or some kind of magical moment at sunrise of Christmas day. I love reading holiday books, start gathering them in Nov to read the whole month of Dec.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Okay, now you have me wanting cookies!

  155. Selene Grace Silver says:

Since the sexiest part of a sensual love scene is the emotion, I want sensual emotion resulting from steamy sex! We didn’t really have to pick either/or, did we?

  156. Judy, Judy, Judy says:

Going back to read the post in a sec but I have to get this comment in before midnight (cst) first.

    1. Judy, Judy, Judy says:

Ok read the post now. I would definitely love to read a xmas book with hot sex, paranormal elements and humor. It would be a nice change to have no heart-wrenching moments or children in a xmas book. I’d want the snow, though.

      1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

LOL about your wanting a nice change with no children or heart-wrenching moments! I’m afraid mine has both, along with the humor and the hot sex. No paranormal, though. :-)

  157. Denise C. says:

    nice book trailer.*<;-)

  158. Stephanie G says:

I love Christmas romances. I like them when there is the magic of the season and a little hot sex never hurt anyone. LOL

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Well, I certainly agree with that! My grandma used to say, about sex in books, “You got to have a little spice in life.” :-)

      1. Stephanie G says:

        LOL! Definately! :)

  159. Pam B says:

I enjoy Christmas books of all varieties as long as they don’t forget to include some Christmas magic. I actually read them all year long and love Santa magic in contemporary novels.

  160. Pam Welch says:

Can’t wait to get this book and see how it plays out. Sexy romance is always good regardless of time of year.

  161. Laurie G says:

Christmas to me = decorating a tree, snow possibly getting stranded in it, humor, romance including chemistry with sparks and sex, it could be an office party, a family gathering, get together with friends and neighbors, children are not necessary, it can even have a non believer Scrooge character

Prancer is my favorite Christmas movie and it has almost all of the above.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Sounds like exactly what I like in a Christmas book! Although I do like having children in there.

  162. Marla Golladay says:

I love just about anything in a Christmas book! Steamy and sweet make it extra fun reading! I love it when there is a precocious child or an odd pet along with a grumpy but super lovable hero! But really, I love anything that is related to Christmas!

  163. Heather W says:

Definitely must have children and snow! But a steamy hot romance is good any time of the year!

  164. barb hoffarth says:

I think Christmas includes: cozy fires, steamy, fun and exciting sex. Unexpected surprises. Unannouced guests. Laughing children and fun all around. Loveable, secretive heroes and daring, impulsive heroines. Any crazy animals who come in at the most inoperative moments. Love, laughs and craziness. And alot of snow I live in North Dakota so snow is a given.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Surprises ARE a key element for me. I agree!

  165. LilMissMolly says:

The perfect Christmas romance should have understated sex, Humor and snow.

  166. Kim says:

I prefer Christmas stories that emphasize family. I wouldn’t want a paranormal element in a Christmas story unless it was portrayed as magic. No werewolves or shape shifters.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever read a Christmas paranormal. I know they’re out there–I just can’t remember if I’ve read one.

  167. Lori Howe says:

A bit of romance, a bit of sex, a dash of intruigue and an HEA and I’m happy.. :-)

  168. deb p says:

I have to like the characters ,then add the fireplace with romance.

  169. Rhiannon Rowland says:

I love Christmas stories with new love, the couple being snowed in or stuck together in someway. Love a fireplace and making love of course!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

One good thing about historical romances. There’s ALWAYS a fireplace! :-)

  170. lisagk says:

I’m pretty flexible but do love humor, pets and SNOW. lisagk(at)yahoo.com

  171. Annwitch says:

I adore holiday romances, I seem to grab everything with a Christmas cover I can this time of year. I really like snow in my Christmas romances, I live in California and no white Christmas where I am.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I do enjoy the Christmas romances myself. That’s why I had to write one!

  172. denise says:

The pefect Chrismas romance?…I’m open to about anything as long it’s written by one of my favorite authors like you…

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Awww, that’s so sweet!

  173. erinf1 says:

I don’t really have a preference. Just as long as it’s not depressing or too sad. Christmas is suppose to be fun and sexy :)

  174. Megan says:

I love kids at Christmas. In a Christmas romance I love it all. I have yet to find a Christmas romance that that I don’t enjoy.

  175. Diana Gould says:

I love Christmas novels, especially at this time of the year. I like some children, steamy :) and families holiday traditions. Must have some snow for a snowball fight or romantic sleigh ride and perfect would be a new, first love. Can’t wait to read this one – just pulled out all the Christmas books I’ve bought this year and saved to read now.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Stockpiling Christmas romances is a great plan!

  176. Renee Mulholland says:

Holidays are horrendously stressful for us all so I gotta say I want a holiday story that is sweet, funny, kids are okay, definitely snow and yes lots of HOT SEX!! I mean you gotta keep warm right? A bit of drama and stress is a given but nothing gut wrenching. Oh and puppies! Puppies are always good whether as gifts or found on your doorstep when the heroine can’t imagine having another mouth to feed but whose heart insists on keeping the ‘mutt’ till its owner is found.

  177. eli yanti says:

I don’t too much reading christmas romance but i enjoy one book by johanna lindsey – present

  178. magda longoria says:

I do read the christmas books, but I don’t really care so much about the celebration. I think what makes the book for me is the snowy cold weather with fireplaces hot chocolate that kind of stuff. Definitly a pet or two in the story and of course romance!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

LOL about the celebration! There’s probably plenty of people who agree with you on that. *G*

  179. Tess says:

Definitely no children around (Haha!) Lots of hot sex. Maybe some paranormal elements (Surprise me!) Most importantly, a HEA ending :) Oh, and yes to snow!

  180. June M. says:

I think it just depends on the book. I do like paranormals and they tend to be “hotter” than some others. I think, especially in historicals, the story should not be focused on sex, but if it is written naturally, it fits well.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I agree–it’s important that the sex have a place in the book.

  181. Michelle K. says:

I love Christmas books, especially since as my husband puts it, I am a halloween christmas wrapper. I usually have my shopping done and gifts wrapped by Halloween, then I get to sit back and enjoy all the holiday books I can during the season. I love a little humor, definately the romance, (grand is always nice), family and fun, oh yeah, don’t forget the steam…
