The goddesses are on Mt Oly dealing with a “sugar” hangover today, so we apologize for the delay in getting today’s post up!
While they recover, let’s do a recap of the holiday:
What was the funniest costume you saw? Cutest costume? Most clever?
What kind of candy did you pass out or did you hide in the house with the lights off?
Who bought really good candy in hopes that no kids would ring the bell and you’d get to eat it all yourself?

I was flying home from LaGuardia during our trick or treat (made it out of there by the skin of my teeth!) so I didn’t get to see any costumes.
I did buy a bag of Reese’s for oldest son to hand out. He did so, but ran out about 20 minutes early so then had to hide in the house with the lights off.
I always buy candy I, ahem, THEY will eat if we have extra. But, alas, this year “they” will get none.

Did you fly out last night?? I thought LaGuardia was closed?
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:33 am.
LGA opened late yesterday. However, my trip to Wisconsin to surprise my Chicago book group had to canceled. See that? It’s all about ME.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:37 am.
Isn’t that how it should be, Fresh?
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 2:20 pm.
We do trick or treat here on Sunday, so I was leaving LaGuardia late Sunday. It was a freak out fest there.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 12:34 pm.
It always seems to be a freak out fest at LaGuardia. I cannot imagine how crazed that was!

We had trick or treaters come around. They took large amounts of lollies and then took off. We only had two groups come around so there was some lollies left over and they were good!

The weather was really pretty nasty here last night so we didn’t get many people. We did have a family of honey bees come over that was really kind of cute and one of our daycare kids was Mario.
We didn’t give out much candy and what we did was bulk candy from the store, I really like the toffee ones so I got more of those than others. We mostly gave out toys from Oriental traders like glow in the dark balls, colors & coloring books. They were actually a big hit with the kids.
We had our annual Samhain ritual and some ancestors showed up to say hi, that was cool.

I saw several adorable costumes last night, but of course, my favourite costumes were the ones my sons wore (3 1/2 and 2 yo). My oldest was Captain Jack Sparrow (dreadlocks and facial hair included) and my youngest was another pirate. We got many compliments on the Jack Sparrow costume.
One of the best costumes we saw, however, had to be an astronaut. The boy was about 5 and the costume was very well done.
As we were out trick-or-treating with our sons, my husband and I were one of those people that leave a bowl of candy by the front door. To my great surprise, it wasn’t all gone by the time we got home! We actually had a spare box inside waiting for us, but I guess the downpour of rain discouraged all the kids from going out.

Geezer bought a couple bags of candy, but then left all the lights off to detract the kids. See what he did there? Yeah.. so we had zero trick or treaters and two bags of candy.
Sadly, there were no costume sightings, though I had a great time looking at the photos of my friends’ kids on Facebook

Despite the bad weather it was busy in our neighbourhood last night. Hubby took the kids out while I handed out the candy. I went through 200 bags of Doritos and 1 box of chocolate bars, so sadly nothing leftover, but my kids got enough to share.
I had a little boy who was dressed as spiderman tell me he didn’t like Doritos, but he would take something else if I had it. So, I gave him a box of smarties and he was so happy. As he walked away I could hear his dad giving him a talking to about asking for something different.
The cutest costume that came to the door was a little girl dressed as Dorthy from The Wizard Of Oz. She had the complete look inculding Toto in a little picnic basket.

We live in a hilly neighborhood so you have to be part goat to really get around. The good news is that everybody buys great candy to reward the athletic trick-or-treaters. Sadly, we had very few this year. Favorite was our neighbors’ grandchildren. A 2-month-old baby dressed like Elvis! They thought it up because he has the Elvis haircut…the part, the swoop, naturally. It was the first time I’ve seen him and he’s so adorable. Like his daddy, which is nice because his big sister is the spitting image of her mom.
Lots of candy leftover!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:30 am.
I am in a neighborhood like that. The people with houses on fairly level streets get hit hard and those of us on hills don’t see many kids at our doors. There is a clear route mapped out over the generations as kids figured out how to maximize the haul with as little hill climbing as possible.

LOL!

Due to Sandy, our Halloween is postponed to November 5th, if I understand correctly. Leis was devastated. Not only was little Batgirl missing to trick-or-treat, she was supposed to go on a pumpkin picking hayride at school.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:31 am.
I feel bad for the litte kids who were all excited and then had it postponed.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:50 am.
I think the picture above might be the cutest. Lots of princesses and avengers in my hood
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:34 am.
You know, we had all the princesses too, but not one avenger. I’m surprised. My nephew in Utah went as Captain America, complete with muscles–it was too cute. We did, however have several Spideys. I thought for sure we would see a Thor or Iron Man, but we didn’t.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:54 am.
had a couple of Incredible Hulks. Is he an Avenger? I tend to think they all are
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 2:22 pm.
Yes’m he is. We didn’t have a Hulk either.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 4:43 pm.
I saw no costumes because Halloween was cancelled and will be held on Nov 5 from 5-8 PM
I passed out candy to my family – Mounds, Reeses and Kit Kats. We sat with the lights off because we have no power. However, I did have a lot of candles lit.
Do I buy my favorite candy? See above. If things don’t shape up soon this may be our only food source.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:36 am.
I hope your electric comes back on soon. Where are you located?
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:51 am.
I’m in Northern NJ. Thank God we had no damage done, just no power. We have a generator for the fridge and furnace, but now we are running low on gas and there is none left around me. People are driving to PA and upstate NY for gas. Crazy…
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 12:37 pm.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you, Suzy!! That sucks.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 4:47 pm.
Oh, SuzyQ, I hope they get your power situation corrected soon! I cannot imagine that. At least you’ve got good candy for sustenance.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 12:09 pm.
Good luck Suzy! CT is starting to get back on it’s feet. My town now has more than 50% of people with power!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 2:25 pm.
I’m one of those that turns the lights off as well. I hate sharing candy.;) Especially Peppermint Patties. Or Butterfingers. Or fun size Snickers. Or… heck, I just hate sharing candy. I’m grinchy like that.

They postponed Halloween here until Saturday, due to the weather that was anticipated. It was not really bad last night—Sandy was long past us— but it was raining and raw so it was just as well that it will be Saturday. Only now I have to try and keep the candy stash from being eaten until then! I have it in the furthest room from my office, so I am not tempted at every turn. But already my son and I have depleted it by one bag.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:47 am.
Funniest costume was an inflated sumo wrestler.
Had tons of kids come by. Finished 2 giant bags of candy!! I turned off the lights around 10:00 but we didn’t get anyone after about 8:30 or 9:00.
My 8 yr old went as a werewolf. Looked really good!
I saved all the Almond Joys and M&M peanuts from my kids loot so I could eat it.

This was the first year that we have not run out of candy before 8 since we moved into our neighborhood 10 years ago. We bought an industrial sized bag at Costco, my MIL brought 4 small bags and my SIL brought 2 small bags. We actually had about two handfuls of candy left last night. We have a LOT of kiddos in our neighborhood, and in addition to that, several area churches bring big groups of kids trick or treating there too.
Last night, of course the cutest was my granddaughter, aka munchkin girl–she was Cinderella.
But, aside from my little beauty, there was an ADORABLE little 13 month old girl that was Tinkerbell with light up wings and shoes–she just talked up a storm (she talked to us like we should understand every word!) and she loved my royal blue witch hat.
I was dressed up to hand out the candy with my gorgeous hat, witchy costume and fantastic Victorian boots. Several little girls LOVED my hat–they didn’t want candy from me, they wanted to see my hat.
We get so many trick or treaters, that we just sit outside from about 6-8:30 or so–otherwise we would never shut the front door. We love it!
The most clever costume really had us all chuckling…it was a cereal killer. He had a giant box of Corn Flakes and had fake knives and scissors sticking out of it. It was too funny.
We also saw 5 Mario’s and 3 Luigi’s, several Cinderellas and Rapunzels, but only 1 Merida, complete with a wild red curly wig.
At 8:30, we close it up because all the kiddos are usually done, but we leave the light on if we have candy left. We go inside and watch Van Helsing, our other Halloween tradition.
Love that Hugh…. *sigh*
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:51 am.
That cereal killer has a very clever mom. It sounds hilarious.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:56 am.
It really was. I’m just glad we got to see it before it got really dark. It was hysterical!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 12:03 pm.
My son and his family go all out for Halloween, it is their anniversary. I made a Sailor Moon outfit for oldest g-girl, the other two were medieval vampire and zombie, daddy did the make-up. I wish I could have been there in person but Samhain is when my sister and I do ritual for ourselves.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:53 am.
As the other Jersey girls said, no trick or treaters till Monday. I did see a couple on Saturday, one little girls was the sun. So cute. Funniest, seen on line, a little boy strapped to a board as Hannibal Lecter.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:55 am.
We have a ton of candy left from last night (the good stuff!). The cutest costume that I saw was a baby dressed as a convict with striped suit and hat with “play pen 12345″ on the chest. He was adorable! The funniest one was one I saw on the web. A parapalegic man missing a leg since he was 10 years old dressed up as the leg lamp from the Christmas Story. It was original and hilarious!!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 11:56 am.
BTW, Google Josh Sundquist Leg Lamp Costume to see a photo.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 12:00 pm.
That baby’s costume sounds so funny and original!
I’m googling right now!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 12:12 pm.
My front yard’s still a graveyard — need to clean that up today. Sigh. *g*
I had about 150 Trick-or-Treaters, and went through 4 big bags of candy. Unfortunately for me I still have the Reese’s Peanut Butter cup bag left. Okay, maybe I held it back for last. And maybe I’m eating candy right now.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 12:46 pm.
I’ll be right over.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 2:24 pm.
Me first!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 4:15 pm.
The most clever costume I saw was on my four-year old granddaughter, the doctor…especially because when my four-year-old grandson said she was wearing “boy clothes,” she told him he didn’t know what he was talking about. You go, girl!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 1:01 pm.
Each year our little town has a Halloween parade for the wee little children. We saw a Mother with her baby carried in a snuggly in the front. She had the snuggly covered with vertical red and white stripes and the baby’s hat was white with popcorn glued onto it. The costume was super cute!
We only had 4 groups of children last night due to the rain. One cute little elephant, Pooh Bear and a couple of Princesses. Nothing funny this year.
We agree upfront to give out candy that we don’t like as much like Baby Ruth and Butterfingers. This cuts down on the guilt! Somehow Kit Kat bars always find their way home though…
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 1:14 pm.
there was a little girl of about 3 dressed as clifford the big red dog and she was literally draggin the treat bag. she looked exhausted but was so adorable!!! i love when the parents have to coach the little ones on getting treats, too!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 1:37 pm.
The little bitty ones make me smile. Some seem sort of clueless about what is going on, and perplexed when they get candy for knocking on a door.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 2:11 pm.
The cutest one last night was a one year old in a dinosaur costume. The funniest one I’ve ever seen was when I was in college and a college student dressed up as a giant “you know what” with two “you know what’s” on his feet.
For those without power, my heart goes out to you. We were without for six days this summer when the derecho went through. During the nights the temps dropped down to 80, the highs during the day were 105. We were miserable. However, the whole neighborhood came together and shared whatever they could during this time. It was interesting how everyone working together made it liveable again.

The local aquarium was one of the only places for kids to go yesterday, as everyone was cautioned to stay off the roads for safety. Looks like it was a big success! We never get trick or treaters, but we usually go out into town to see them.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 2:27 pm.
We had over 90 kids last night. We gave out tootsie rolls and rice krispie treats. My favorite costume may have been the tinies little ladybug. So CUTE.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 4:17 pm.
I bought GOOD candy, then ate some of it. We had a whole bag unopened left this morning (despite having plenty of trick-or-treaters–Hubby always buys too much), so he took it to my son’s day program, at my insistence. I do NOT need candy around here!
The highlight of my evening was a FIFTEEN-MONTH-OLD in a cow costume who toddled up to the door with her little bucket (and Mom next to her). She couldn’t manage “Trick or treat” but immediately after the candy went in she thrust her cute little hand into her bucket and had to be stopped from eating it right there. SO adorable!!!
Lots more teenagers than usual. I guess the age is getting older for that, eh? I wore a pseudo-costume and one girl asked who I was. When I said, “the Mad Hatter,” she said, “Who’s that?” Sad day when they don’t recognize the names of characters from Alice in Wonderland. Sheesh!
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 4:44 pm.
I boycotted. I have a crick in my shoulder and just didn’t feel up to dealing with kids.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 4:45 pm.
Well…I work right next to the probation office…seeing the probationers dressed up in a variety of costumes was a bit surreal.
Cutest costume was my friend’s toddler in a Elephant Costume. She was laughing so hard and having a wonderful time for herself.
Candy…well…I bought a bunch of almond joy and twizzlers, then took the cat for a long walk cuz I couldn’t possibly answer the door and take the cat for a walk.
Prince fluffypants went to halloween in a tutu left over from Princess Fluffybutt … he didn’t care, he got to go outside, and play in the mudpuddles. He’s such a boy cat.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 6:16 pm.
We saw a totally new sight. Eldest went to a teenager party, being too old to trick or treat. Picking him up, we passed a tractor going down the road, pulling one of those big hay wagons–completely lit up and decorated for Halloween. In the back were a bunch of rowdy adults–and a keg.
They were having a Happy Halloween!

Hi Everyone!
Lori, picked up your new Lori Austin book today! Can’t wait to get into it.
Funniest part of Halloween: We went with our 5 year old nephew and 4 year old niece. There were a bunch of us walking around trick or treating. We had practiced at home and the kids knew what to say, etc., but when we got to the yards/doors/porches, the nephew wouldn’t say anything. He’d just hold out his bag and stand there. The little girl would say the obligatory ‘trick or treat’ and ‘thank you’ but he wouldn’t, even though we encouraged him. Finally, at about halfway thru, I asked him “Joseph, why aren’t you saying ‘trick or treat?’ and ‘thank you’? when you go to these peoples yards?
He looked at me, and in an aggravated voice says, “Because I’m not supposed to talk to strangers!”
Hahahahhahha. He can take their candy, but he can’t talk to them. LOL, too funny.
Posted on November 1, 2012 at 7:15 pm.
We had 7 trick or treaters. We gave out Dots because my dh ate all the Charleston Chews and Junior Mints out of the bag.
Cutest costume – dd’s Pikachu costume! She rocked it!
I have to admit that I left the annual Halloween party early because I had a sore throat and headache from teaching the Halloween craft to 4 groups of 15 (60 kids total) third graders. I had the lights out while I was home. When dh brought dd home from trick or treating, he was the one handing out the candy. About an hour after he came home, our 12 yo ds called to be picked up from the party.

My apartment complex had a pumpkin painting and costume contest night along with trick or treating
I helped judge the contest. The winner for the younger kids was a black cat. Can you say awwww?
The winner for the older kids was a Gilligan’s Island zombie. Not only did this kid think about the costume he also had the zombie walk down.
I brought stickers for the trick or treating but they got used for pumpkin decorating instead. I sent my pumpkin home with a family because my cat would just destroy it.
