  1. E.R. says:

    Thanksgiving (for Americans and Canadians):

Turkey dinner or something else? The majority of the inhabitants in my home don’t like turkey, so it is ham for us. Rice is also a norm in our daily diet, so that’s a given. One Chinese dish going to be eaten this holiday is a “Seafood Delight” (a dish w/ shrimp, scallop, lobster, and veggies), a fave of one of my brothers.

Stuffing or Potatoes or both? Neither. Not part of the menu.

Home-cooked or take-out/catered? Home meals and take-out. Catering not part of the whole experience.

Pumpkin pie or pecan pie or both (or other)? Neither. Unless someone else brings a pie, but not likely.

Your house or someone else’s? This holiday is ALWAYS at our home.

TV–Football games or Macy’s Day parade or both? Both, IF a football team is one of the supported ones for those who love the sport in our home, and the parade because it is nice to watch them.

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

    Favorite holiday book? Umm….

Turkey dinner or ham dinner (or something else–Chinese, anyone? Anyone?) Not really sure. Unless a certain household agrees to host it at their place, probably won’t be a fancy meal.

Outside lights and decor or nothing outside? As been the tradition, when the previous holiday (the one mentioned above) is near, lights and the X-mas tree are put up. Then after the new year, they are taken down.

Favorite piece of holiday music? The TSO music (a few of them; can’t really remember their titles) is a must.

    Mailed cards or e-only? Both.

Fresh tree or artificial tree? Artificial.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

No pie?? That would kill me. I don’t like cake, and I have to have a wee bit of dessert.

I prefer ham to turkey, too, although we always do a turkey for Thanksgiving so we can make really good gumbo from the leftovers.

  2. Liz B. says:

    Let’s see:

    THANKSGIVING

    Absolutely turkey for Thanksgiving.

Mashed potatoes and stuffing only if it’s Stove Top (none of that nasty oyster stuffing).

    Home cooked

Apple pie. Nobody in our families likes pecan or pumpkin

My in-law’s house as they have a dining room and none of the rest of us do.

Macy’s Day parade in the morning (that’s what I called it when I was a kid. Who knew they had their own day?) and football after

    CHRISTMAS

    Lisa Kleypas’ A Wallflower Christmas

Ham dinner – a Honeybaked ham preferably

Nothing outside but a ton of decorations inside

I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas and Santa Baby as sung by Eartha Kitt

I generally don’t do cards but if I do they are the paper kind.

FRESH!!! There is nothing like taking the kids to pick out a tree and wrestling it into a stand and having the whole house smell like Christmas.

    Happy holidays!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I have the Kleypas book on my TBR! Everybody keeps recommending it.

  3. Sue says:

    Thanksgiving

Turkey dinner or something else? Turkey

Stuffing or Potatoes or both? Potatoes

    Home-cooked or take-out/catered? Home-cooked

Pumpkin pie or pecan pie or both (or other)? Pumpkin and whatever other pies we decide on

Your house or someone else’s? Thanksgiving is always at our house

TV–Football games or Macy’s Day parade or both? Both

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

Favorite holiday book? There are so many wonderful Christmas books, it’s really hard to choose one.

Turkey dinner or ham dinner Depends on which DIL is having Christmas.

Outside lights and decor or nothing outside? Nothing outside, but I do some decorations inside

Favorite piece of holiday music? O Holy Night and Little Drummer Boy

    Mailed cards or e-only? Mailed

    Fresh tree or artificial tree?
A little artificial tree (we are never home for Christmas so a live tree is out of the question)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Those two carols are two of my favorites, too. And I love, for some reason, “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming.”

  4. cail says:

    Turkey dinner!
    Stuffing and Potatoes
    Home-cooked
    Apricot Pie
    Parent’s house
    Macy’s Day parade

    Christmas/Hanukkah
    Grinch!
Dinner depends on who’s cooking that year.
    decor with nothing outside
    Carol of the Bells, probably.
    No cards from me!
    Fresh tree

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      Ooh, apricot pie sounds yummy!!!

And how can anyone not love the Grinch? Perfect holiday tale.

  5. Freshechelle says:

    Turkey dinner
    Potatoes
    Home-cooked
    Orange bundt cake
    Mom’s house
    TV–Football games or Macy’s? Neither

book – hmm. This year, yeah, I’ll say yours.
    Turkey dinner or ziti.
decor? If I decorate it’s at the last minute; I wrap the metal heron in garland and lights and put the gifts under her.
music? Stephen Colbert’s Another Christmas Song
cards? I regret that I don’t have time to do too many cards but paper or it just isn’t
tree? Aw come on, I’m such a Scrooge. Haven’t done a tree in about 20 years.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Aw, Fresh, you don’t have to say that, but thanks!

No tree? That would kill me. I like Christmas trees, although I have at least two friends who don’t do them at all (and not for religious reasons, either–they just don’t bother). You make three!

And I ADORE Colbert’s Another Christmas Song!

  6. KellyProellocks says:

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

Favorite holiday book? (No, it doesn’t have to be mine. *G*)

Sorry but I don’t have one.

Turkey dinner or ham dinner (or something else–Chinese, anyone? Anyone?)

We have roast chicken, salads and light stuff like that

Outside lights and decor or nothing outside?

Outside decor but stuff that if stolen won’t be missed – much.

    Favorite piece of holiday music?

    Mary did you know?

    Mailed cards or e-only?

    Mailed only

    Fresh tree or artificial tree?

    Fake trees, they last longer.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Kelly, sometimes for Thanksgiving we do roast duck or cornish hens. One Christmas we did standing rib of roast. I like to mix it up. *G*

      1. Kelly Proellocks says:

This year we are having turkey hind quarter and ham to go with the seafood, salads and chook. Oh we also have a pavlova made by my bro in law. Way yummy! I want to try turducken one year.

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I have a friend who does turducken every year. What’s a pavlova?

          1. Kelly Proellocks says:

It’s a meringue base topped with cream and sliced fruit. You really don’t want it to be dropped onto the floor or get used in a food fight because it not only leaves a sticky residue but is also a pain to clean up since it will be harder than cement to be rid of at times.

  7. LoriHandeland says:

Turkey dinner or something else? (Chinese food, anyone? Anyone?)
Turkey-just bought, could hardly lug it in the house.

    Stuffing or Potatoes or both?
    Both

    Home-cooked or take-out/catered?
    home

Pumpkin pie or pecan pie or both (or other)?
    both

    Your house or someone else’s?
    mine

TV–Football games or Macy’s Day parade or both?
    FB

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

Favorite holiday book? (No, it doesn’t have to be mine. *G*)
    Who elses?

Turkey dinner or ham dinner (or something else–Chinese, anyone? Anyone?)
    steak

Outside lights and decor or nothing outside?
    nothing

    Favorite piece of holiday music?
    White Christmas

    Mailed cards or e-only?
    mailed

    Fresh tree or artificial tree?
    fresh

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I would have pegged you for a mailed cards and fresh tree person, but the steak is a surprise. And funny! If I could do steak decently on the grill, I would definitely go for steak for Christmas!

      1. LoriHandeland says:

Grilling steak is a manly man thing. I have three of them for that. I just buy the meat and hand it over. Youngest son has become an champion grillsman. I’m so proud.

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I have a husband, but he’s not good at grilling steak, I’m afraid. :-)

  8. Amanda says:

    Turkey!

Both, since Grandma has passed, no more worrying about Oyster Dressing and “American” oysters from the East Cost, Grandma was a purist.

Pumpkin and Egg Custar pie. No pecan this year

Someone else’s house. Ours isn’t big enough to have a nice flow with all of DH’s family.

FB, but only because it is nice to have on in the background while napping.

    Christmas:
Book: The 1943 Betty Crocker cookbook I inherited from my grandma. All the traditional foods are in there, and made from scratch.

Dinner: Christmas Eve Spaghetti. Years ago, when Dad was still with us, he wanted spaghetti. The tradition has stuck and wow! What a easy meal to make.

Lights: We have a tree for our deck. Last year, we purchased a gaudy blue one on the discout shelves, so I’m excited to get our deck tree up.

Music: Silent Night & Jingle Bell Rock

Mailed cards–hand made for many years, but have been punting on cards and going to see the newest holiday movie for the past couple of years

Artificial tree. 13 years ago, DH and I went to the woods, chopped a tree down, and put it in our little apartment. We put our string of lights on it and our three ornaments. A couple of hours later, the bugs woke up and we had chiggers! in December. We’ve been an artificial family ever since.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

My mom has a Betty Crocker cookbook that she still uses! That’s one good cookbook.

      Chiggers!! Gross.

  9. Angela says:

    Thanksgiving
    Turkey of course!
Mashed Potatoes w/gravy and stuffing (no oyster stuffing)
    Home cooked
    Pumpkin or Pecan pie? Both!
Ross Hills Camp at the dining hall
Macy’s parade before I get there and if anybody brings a tv we watch football

    Christmas
    no favorite christmas book
as for dinner, probably just a frozen tv dinner unless someone brings me something or takes me to dinner
No decor outside, I’m in an apartment
Favorite holiday music: Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD’s!
mailed cards (mine are going out today)
    artificial tree (fresh not allowed)

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

We’re getting to the point where we need a camp for OUR family. There’s too many of us!

  10. Miranda says:

    Thanksgiving (for Americans and Canadians):

Turkey dinner with both homemade stuffing and potatoes. Definitely Home-cooked. Pumpkin pie + possibly an apple pie. Our house this year though sometimes we can manage to get with family, which is awesome. Both TV–Football games and Macy’s Day parade are fun, if we remember to turn on the TV, otherwise, neither.

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

Favorite holiday book… am not sure.. too many good choices. For dinner, maybe ham, usually not as big as turkey, but maybe a roast chicken or something other that’s comforting and warm. So far it’s been nothing outside, but I hope to change that a little this year. Favorite piece of holiday music is Hark, the Herald Angels Sing. Cards are something I usually just get in the mail. I’ll probably facebook a cute picture or several of the little man. Fresh trees smell better but we’ll probably use our artificial tree since if weather permits we’ll be heading to visit family :-) .

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I stopped sending cards a few years ago, but this year I may do it. It’s just more work than I can usually manage at the holidays.

  11. Jen B says:

    Thanksgiving (for Americans and Canadians):

Turkey dinner or something else? (Chinese food, anyone? Anyone?): Turkey!
Stuffing or Potatoes or both?: Both!
Home-cooked or take-out/catered?: Home cooked but I’ve gone out and that’s been fun as well.
Pumpkin pie or pecan pie or both (or other)? Both, but 2 years ago I also made a cranberry fudge pie that was REALLY good and is now a regular part of both Thanksgiving and Christmas!
Your house or someone else’s? Ours because it’s the only holiday we have for just us. All the other ones we have to deal with extended family so I put my foot down.
TV–Football games or Macy’s Day parade or both? Macy’s Parade and I also, if I can, will run a turkey trot :) Yes I am weird.

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

Favorite holiday book? (No, it doesn’t have to be mine. *G*): Oddly I can’t say I really have a favorite. Nothing comes to mind anyway.
Turkey dinner or ham dinner (or something else–Chinese, anyone? Anyone?): Turkey for me!
Outside lights and decor or nothing outside?: Outside WHITE lights. I put them up.
Favorite piece of holiday music?: Hmm, I don’t have a favorite. I just like it.
Mailed cards or e-only? Mailed but only because I like receiving mail :p
Fresh tree or artificial tree?: I’d love a fresh but since I’m the one who deals with it, and my husband doesn’t help at all, it’s 2 fake ones. Perhaps when my kids get older I’ll take them and get a real one.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Hubby and son and I used to go out a lot for Thanksgiving, but we haven’t done it in recent years.

Mmm, that cranberry fudge pie sounds delicious!! Do you have a recipe you could share?

      What’s a turkey trot?

      1. Debbie says:

I agree about the cranberry fudge recipe! Would love to try that one.

      2. Jen B says:

A Turkey Trot is a footrace (running) usually 5k distance. It’s for us crazy runners :p

Here you go (it’s from King Arthur Flour’s website)

        Crust

1 2/3 cups graham cracker crumbs*
1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar or glazing sugar
        5 tablespoons melted butter
*One cellophane-wrapped packet of graham crackers (9 whole crackers) will yield this amount of crumbs.

        Filling

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chopped semisweet chocolate*
        2/3 cup (5 3/8 ounces) heavy cream
3/4 cup diced walnuts or pecans
*Resist the urge to use bittersweet chocolate; with the acidic tang of the cranberries, it’s just too much. You want a dark chocolate that’s noticeably sweet; most chocolate chips will be fine. We prefer Peter’s Burgundy chunks.

        Topping*

        1 cup sugar
        1/8 teaspoon salt
        1 1/2 cups cranberry juice
        1 cup dried cranberries
12-ounce package fresh or frozen cranberries, a generous 3 cups
*You’ll need about 15 ounces (a scant 1 1/2 cups) topping for the pie. Enjoy the remainder on its own

        1) Preheat the oven to 375°F.

        2) To make the crust: Process the crackers, sugar, and melted butter in a food processor until crumbly and well combined.

        3) Press into the bottom and up the sides of a 9″ pie pan.

        4) Bake the crust for about 7 to 8 minutes, until it’s set, but not brown. Remove from the oven and cool.

        5) To make the filling: Put the chips (or chopped chocolate) and cream in a microwave-safe container, and heat for about 90 seconds.

        6) Remove from the microwave, and stir until the mixture becomes smooth and dark brown; you’re simply making a basic ganache.

        7) Spoon the hot ganache into the cooled crust, and sprinkle the nuts on top.

        8) Refrigerate the pie for at least 1 hour, probably 2, until the ganache has firmed up.

        9) While the pie is chilling, make the topping. Bring the sugar, salt, and cranberry juice to a boil.

        10) Stir in the dried cranberries, and simmer for about 5 minutes.

        11) Add the fresh or frozen cranberries, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes, until some of the berries have burst.

        12) Remove the cranberries from the heat, spoon into a bowl, and chill.

        13) To finish assembling the pie: Spoon 1 1/2 cups cranberry sauce atop the fudge/nut filling. Chill until ready to serve.

Yield: 9″ pie, 8 to 10 rich servings.

  12. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

    Thanksgiving

    1. Turkey
    2. Both
    3. Home-cooked
    4. Pumpkin
    5. My house, unless I’m back home.
    6. I believe my television about burns up on Thanksgiving day. As soon as we get up it comes on for the parades, and then continues for football. We then round it out with a movie.

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa

    1. Hmmm. There are so many I can’t choose one.
    2. Turkey, again.
    3. Light it up like the Griswold’s! ;)
    4. I love all of it, but Baby It’s Cold Outside (Dean Martin/Doris Day version) has been my favorite for the past few years.
    5. Mailed cards.
    6. I’m a horticulturalist. Fresh, fresh, fresh!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

      You’re a horticulturalist? I have a friend who’s a horticulturalist. Cool! She’s in my book club.

  13. dbrown3400 says:

    1.Turkey dinner
    2.Both
    3.Definitely home-cooked
4.Pumpkin pie and homemade butterscotch. I would have a pecan pie also, but there’s only four of us. We don’t need three pies.
    5.Our house
6.Macy’s Day parade for sure. Since I’m the only one in the house who likes football, it’s a struggle to get to watch the games. But I try.

    Christmas:
1.Yours is the freshest in my mind.
2.Ham since we had turkey for Thanksgiving. I would have turkey again, but I get voted down every time.
3.I’m not sure if we’ll do anything outside this year.
4.Favorite piece of holiday music? Little Drummer Boy by Bing Crosby and David Bowie
5.Oops, never seem to get around to those.
    6.Always a fresh tree.

May everyone have happy and safe holidays.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Is that a butterscotch pie?? I’ve never had one of those. That sounds fabulous!

Well, I confess I like ham for Christmas myself. *G*

  14. SuzyQ says:

    Thanksgiving:

    Turkey dinner
Both Stuffing and Potatoes (My mom’s stuffing rocks!)
    Home-cooked
Pumpkin pie, pecan pie and apple pie with whipped cream
This year, my house. First time – I hope I don’t screw it up
    Macy’s Day parade

    Christmas:

    Twas the Night Before Christmas
Shrimp Scampi Christmas Eve, Ham Christmas Day
    Outside lights and TASTEFUL decor
    Jingle Bell Rock
    Mailed cards
Both – Fresh tree downstairs family room and an artificial tree in the upstairs living room.

  15. Julia London says:

For both occasions, I want what Suzanne is holding up there in the header.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

What IS she holding, anyway? Is that cookies or leaves?

  16. B says:

Only the second quiz is applicable to me, so, let’s do it!

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

Favorite holiday book? (No, it doesn’t have to be mine. *G*)
I haven’t read ‘Twas night yet, but I’m sure it’ll be it <3

Turkey dinner or ham dinner (or something else–Chinese, anyone? Anyone?)
Well, not ham, that sounds extremely artificial, smoked, and industrialized, rather, pork dinner. You know, straight out of the pig to the dinner plate. My grandpa raises pigs and fattens them out all year for Christmas and New Year's dinner. And, nope, I don't feel a single bit of guilt about it!

Outside lights and decor or nothing outside?
    Inside, please!

    Favorite piece of holiday music?
I kinda love a lot of them!

    Mailed cards or e-only?
    No cards for me!

    Fresh tree or artificial tree?
Like, artificial? We dont even have fresh Christmas trees in Brazil.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Ooh, fresh pork is fabulous! My sister-in-law’s Puerto Rican family does this big roast pig every year that always looks so delicious in the pictures.

I understand about the trees–we always had to have an artificial tree in Thailand. No Christmas trees grown there either.

  17. Philomena D says:

    Thanksgiving (for Americans and Canadians):
    1.Turkey
    2.A little of both
    3.Home-cooked
    4.Pumpkin pie or apple pie
    5.Relative
    6.Macy’s Day parade

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:
    1.Too many to pick from.
    2.Roast Beef
    3.Outside lights
    4.Joy to the World
    5.Mailed cards
    6.Fresh tree

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Ooh, roast beef! My husband would love that.

  18. AmyS says:

    Thanksgiving:

    -Turkey
    -Both
    -Home-cooked
-I love pecan pie, but I am the only one, so we generally have apple or cherry pie for Thanksgiving.
-We always travel for Thanksgiving, and I am fine with that.
-I love watching the Football on American Thanksgiving. I have never watched the Macy’s Day parade.

    Christmas:

-We always read our kids Twas’ The Night Before Christmas on Christams Eve and they love it, so I will say that is my favourite Christmas book.
-We usually have both Ham and Turkey for Christmas, but the Turkey is my favourite.
-We decorate both inside and out. Although, I spend more time with the inside decorations. Just lights outside.
-I love Santa Baby and also WHAM’s Last Christmas. Traditional, I would say Silent Night.
-I only send out a few Christmas cards overseas, but I always mail them, it’s more personal.
-We have an artifical tree. I would love someday to have a real one.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I have the same problem with the pecan pie–it’s my favorite and Dad’s, but he and I don’t need to eat a whole pie between us. Hubby likes it, too, but he’s watching his sugar, so he eats the top off of it. I’ll probably make one for Christmas, though.

  19. Cheri Champagne says:

    Thanksgiving (for Americans and Canadians):

Turkey dinner or something else? — Turkey at my mother-in-law’s, and turkey and a ham at my mom’s.
Stuffing or Potatoes or both? — Both
    Home-cooked or take-out/catered?– Home-cooked!
Pumpkin pie or pecan pie or both (or other)? — Pumpkin is traditional, but my favourite pie is Strawberry Rhubarb. mmm…
Your house or someone else’s? — I’ve made turkey dinner here before, but if I continued to have one here every year, then we’d have 3 turkey dinners in one weekend… it might be a little much.
TV–Football games or Macy’s Day parade or both? — No parade in Canada on Thanksgiving. We generally avoid the TV and go for conversation.

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

Favorite holiday book? — “Twas The Night Before Christmas” – I read it to my kids every year.
Turkey dinner or ham dinner — Turkey, and on Christmas eve, my mother-in-law has an ‘open house’ with all kinds of tasty goodies.
Outside lights and decor or nothing outside? — Lights!!
Favorite piece of holiday music? — I really like the Trans Siberian Orchestra’s Christmas music.
Mailed cards or e-only? — Mailed cards. I think it’s more personal.
Fresh tree or artificial tree? — I prefer a fresh tree, but our townhouse complex only allows artificial trees. C’est La Vie!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

You’re lucky to have someone else to do the turkey! I don’t have a mother-in-law (she passed away before I met my husband) and my mom’s getting too old to do the holiday dinner, but my brother and sister-in-law love to do it, so yay!

Wow, I never knew that a residential area could dictate what kind of tree you could have! I guess they’re worried about fire.

      1. Cheri Champagne says:

I think you’re right. It’s because the majority of the houses are connected, and if one caught fire from a dried out fresh tree, then the entire complex (with several hundred homes) would burn. It’s disappointing, but I accept it. I would rather feel comforted that my family is safe in the holiday season than constantly worry about smelling for smoke.

        1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Check back in for one of my Christmas blogs, because I talk about that. :-)

  20. Julie says:

    Thanksgiving (for Americans and Canadians):

1.Definitely Turkey dinner with all the trappings. :)
2.Dressing and potatoes, of course. In our family, we have the dressing cooked separately from the turkey, not stuffed in it–cornbread dressing from my mom’s recipe–it’s always a hit. :)
    3.Home cooked, no question
4.We make both, but I’m not a fan of either. There are only a few that eat the pumpkin, many eat the pecan, but I usually eat brownies or cookies instead. ;)
5.Last year, it was my house, but this year it’s at my MIL’s.
    6.BOTH!

    Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa:

3.Absolutely yes to the outside lights and decorations. I love it!
    4.O’ Holy Night
    5.Both
6.Artificial–I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I cannot STAND the smell of the real trees–makes my nose and eyes itch. :(

I’m ready for the holidays–I love this time of year. :)

    1. Julie says:

Other than the cold….SO glad my little car has seat warmers. ;)

Not much decor outside, but the inside it covered in greenery and bling, bling, bling!
Don’t laugh. Elvis Presley’s Christmas CD(a fond memory from my childhood, but from a scratchy 78 album that my Mom still plays!)
Forget the cards. Too much hassle.
Hubby likes fresh trees, I like artificial since they come pre-lit, (and I’m the one doing the decorating) so I throw in a fresh one every few years to make him happy.

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Alternating fresh and artificial trees seems like a perfect compromise!

  27. Janae says:

    5. Mail cards. We do a collage of pictures from throughout the year, so people can see what we’re doing.
    6. Fresh tree because the dust on the artificial tree sets everyone sneezing.

I do neither the parade nor the football. But usually my siblings and I go out to a movie in the afternoon.

Yes, you have to find time to read mine! :-)

I have a lot of Celtic Christmas music myself.

      1. Janae says:

I’m hoping that I’ve time to read your book Thanksgiving weekend. If I can’t read it then, it’ll after to be after the second weekend in December when I’m selling my jewelry at our local art center that weekend. I should be creating my inventory list, right now.

Ginger, we call it dressing, too, but I don’t want people to confuse it with salad dressing. *G*

Sounds like you have as many trees as I do!

    1. Sabrina Jeffries says:

  33. Audrey says:

For Thanksgiving, a homemade turkey dinner with both stuffing and potatoes, pumpkin pie and something “light” like an Angel Cream Melba, at my daughter’s house. No TV – enough noise without it!

For Christmas, turkey and ham and all the fixings – I don’t cook for a week afterward. I don’t have a favorite book, but for music, I always listen to a Boston Pops Christmas album that I love. For decorating, DH does as much outside as he’s got time to do, lots of lights and garlands and such. He also insists on a real tree, I’d be happy to have artificial. I’ve got a friend who puts a bag over top of hers and moves it whole to a spare closet. Yes, she has a spare closet – she has no kids! I still send a few paper cards to family and old friends, with some e-cards to friends who aren’t always in the same place.

I have a question – does anyone else remember when New Year’s Day was another big family day? When I was a kid, we used to have another big family (non-turkey)meal, but no one does it anymore. Probably got tired of cooking a big meal while hungover. :)

    1. Debbie says:

Always a big day at my house. We always had pork and sauerkraut because it was said to bring you luck on prosperity. We also had what was called a New Years Pretzel. It was a baked, risen dough with butter and sprinkled with granulated sugar. Soft, warm and yummy! You always had to have one New Years morning.

    2. Sabrina Jeffries says:

We never did much for New Year’s when I was a kid, so I have followed that into adulthood. But on New Year’s Eve I always do a puzzle for fun, since Hubby and son are in bed by 9 pm (they’re such early birds, I swear!).

  34. LSUReader says:
