So Now What?

Well, how’s 2013 been for you so far? Is it too early to ask? Maybe it is, but I thought I’d give y’all a brief rundown of some of the things we can look forward to – or not look forward to – this year.

Apocalyptic Events – there isn’t any ancient calendar that’s run out of space on a rock tablet this year, but we do have two – yes, TWO – comets set to make passes close by Earth this year. One’s set for March, and the second one, which may be as bright as the moon at night, will be by in late November. What’s kind of cool is that until last year or so, nobody knew these comets existed. And experts are saying the November one, called ISON, will closely resemble the great comet of 1680, which made it onto tapestries all over Europe.

Elections – no national elections, thank heavens. I need a break.

Books – Well, aside from various offerings from our fellow goddesses, I keep hoping George R.R. Martin will hurry up and finish book six of the Game of Thrones series, but no sign yet. Well, there is a tentative title – The Winds of Winter. If he doesn’t hurry up, though, the HBO series will catch up, and then who knows what could happen.

Television – yes, Game of Thrones season 3 starts in April. I can’t wait. And while I won’t mention any spoilers, I will say that if it’s anything like book 3, it’s going to be CRAZY. And then there’s Downton Abbey, season 3, which begins this Sunday. I’m hoping for a wedding. I’m curious to see how Shirley Maclaine fits in with the cast. And I almost bought a T-shirt that read, “free Mr. Bates”.

Movies – I won’t go into a lot of detail, since one of us will likely do that soon, but there are a few highlights I’m looking forward to: A Good Day to Die Hard in February, Iron Man 3 and Star Trek: Into Darkness in May, The Lone Ranger and The Wolverine in July, to name a few.

Which big events, books, TV shows, or movies are you most looking forward to in 2013?

Written by Suzanne Enoch

Suzanne lives in Southern California with a parakeet, a handful of noisy finches and a lot of fish, which aren't noisy. She writes witty, sexy historical romances, and thinks Robert Downey Jr is hot stuff. Her latest historical romance, "The Handbook to Handling His Lordship", is available now! It just received an awesome Kirkus review, which Suzanne has taped to her front door.

  1. Mary Preston says:

I did read that THE WINDS OF WINTER will tentatively be out in 2014. George has basically said ‘it will be out when it’s out’. As much as I’m dying to read it, I do want George to put in the effort too.

I’m looking forward to the new STAR TREK movie too. As much for Benedict Cumberbatch as anything else.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I wish I could turn books in like that, Mary! LOL.

And all the rumors around who Cumberpatch is playing in Star Trek are awesome. I’m hoping it’s Khan.

  2. KellyProellocks says:

I am not looking forward to the election here in Australia later this year.

I am looking forward to Castle coming back along with Criminal Minds, Home and Away, Bones and all the shows that I love. I am especially looking forward to American Horror Story: Asylum which promises to be very interesting.

I am looking forward to Biscuit settling down a bit which will give Acheron a break because he is getting a little cranky with her chasing him.

I am also looking forward to New Guy and I getting our own place which will hopefully happen sometime this month *fingers crossed*

With books I am looking forward to ones that Sherrilyn Kenyon put out along with Destined to Fly by Indigo Bloome and The Mistress by Tiffany Reisz which are erotic books in the Avalon trilogy and The Original Sinners series respectively.

I am looking forward to the new Star Trek movie, The Last Exorcism part 2, Thor: The Dark Worlds and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. I can’t believe that they have done a remake of Stephen King’s classic Carrie and don’t even get me started on Paranormal Activity 5 which is also being released this year.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Kelly, you have a lot going on this year! Plus an interesting dedication in a book coming out on March 26th. *g*

  3. Kathy says:

SO looking forward to the new Star Trek.
and am currently reading ever so slowly through book 3 of Game of Thrones.
One new show coming up I found is called Ripper Street. it stars Matthew McFadyen as a police officer in 1889, shortly after Jack the Ripper has stopped. The city is still in wary panic. awesome! It’s an 8 part series. saw the first episode in a sneak peek and wow!

Right now in my family, we are eagerly awaiting a new baby!
My nephew and his wife are having a little boy any day now. she was due on Sunday the 30th, and not a twinge yet! his big bro’s birthday is on Saturday, so we figure that is when she’ll go into labour, messing up a b’day party for a 7 yr old.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Ooh, a new baby, Kathy! That’s awesome.

I’ve seen the commercials for Ripper Street. I may give it a try, too.

  4. LoriHandeland says:

I’d heard that Season 3 of Game of Thrones was only part of Book 3 because it’s so nuts. I can’t wait for that either. I’m also looking forward to The Follower, with Kevin Bacon that starts the end of the month.

I’m with you on Die Hard. Can’t. Wait.

We are also waiting on a new baby here. I’m gonna be a great-aunt. Very excited.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Dividing book 3 of GoT into 2 seasons makes a lot of sense. Book 4′s only got about 1/2 a season’s action in it, though. Hm. It’ll be interesting.

I want to see The Follower too, Lori — I love James Purefoy, but I’m not sure I can take him as a serial killer.

And a new baby! That’s awesome!

  5. Claudia Welch says:

Big event: I want a picture of all the goddesses wearing FREE MR. BATES t-shirts. That’s what I want above all things.

    May it come to pass!

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I’m willing to do my part, Claudia. *g*

    2. Sabrina Jeffries says:

Do they have those?? I want one!

  6. Amanda says:

I am looking forward to those movies that you mentioned, especially Star Trek. I’m looking forward to a calm year. One where there are no major upsets in life. I may be dreaming about this one, but I can always hope. DH and I found a piece of property in the woods, and we’re excited about house designing. Well, DH is excited about designs, I’m trying to keep him away from the modern look of boxes giving birth to boxes. But that is another blog.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

LOL, Amanda. Designing a house sounds exciting, and I’ll cross my fingers for no box families. *g*

  7. Julie says:

I am anxiously awaiting Burned by Karen Marie Moning. I loved the Fever series, read Iced (the first in the series about Dani O’Malley), and there are no updates on when the second book is being released. It’s driving me bananas… :>P

I’m with you on all of the movies you mentioned, too-specifically Iron Man, Star Trek, and The Wolverine. I’m also looking forward to the 2nd Hobbit film later in 2013. The first one was spectacular in 3D, so we will probably bite the bullet and pay the extra extortion at the theater for the 3D ticket for The Desolation of Smaug, too. :)

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Did you see the first Hobbit in the high frame rate, Julie? I went all out, 3D HFR, and it was SO distracting. I liked it much better the second time I saw it, flat and slow. *g*

      1. Julie says:

It was RealD 3D, so I don’t think it was the HFR. Those are usually at IMAX right?

        1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I think so. I didn’t see it at an IMAX, but it had all the bells and whistles.

  8. Karen Hawkins says:

Which big events, books, TV shows, or movies are you most looking forward to in 2013?

Books: I’m reading hard to get caught up on Game of Thrones before the next one hits the stores. I’m also buying the movies. I need them at home with me. Watching them on Netflix will not do.

TV Shows: Game of Thrones – yes, yes, YES!

Btw, I want a Free Mr. Bates T-Shirt, too! I love Downton Abbey and have been scouring the net looking for spoilers. This season is going to be CRAZY.

Movies: All of the ones you listed. I’m surprised I want to see Die Hard, because I was sort of done with it, but I love that they didn’t try to make Willis’s character younger, but went with the whole ‘with his son’ angle. I respect that and now I want to see it. No one plays a sarcastic cop better than Willis.

I’m looking forward to Star Trek, too. Whoever cast the original was brilliant and now I’m sold on the new ones. And of COURSE I have to see the new Iron Man. I love RDJ. Just love, love, love him.

Wow, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2013!

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

I’m collecting the GoT dvds, too, Karen! Season 2′s out in February.

I love the tag line for the new Die Hard – “Yippee kyae, Mother Russia”. Hee hee.

  9. Nickie says:

Suzanne, as far as I can see 2013 will be a great year for both my sister and I.
In February we are going to Switzerland, then at the end of March we go to Liverpool to see Boogie Nights – with the Osmonds! Chris was always a great fan of that group.
Next comes a trip to Cardiff to see a John Owen Jones and Ruthie Henshall in a Night of Musicals and Movies.
Then we have planned a trip to Amsterdam in May and one to Scotland in July.
And before someone asks, no we haven’t won the lottery! We two sister share a house and save a lot of money this way, so we can afford trips abroad.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

It sounds like you’re going to have an AMAZING year, Nickie! Keep us informed!!

  10. Haley says:

You know, 2012 was such a rat race, I haven’t event taken much time to look forward in to 2013. Besides releases from you ladies, I’m looking forward to books from Grace Burrowes, Nalini Singh and Lisa Kleypas (among many others).

I have several friends having babies this year, along with a few weddings–so am looking forward to seeing all my college girlfriends with the baby shower/bachelorette party circuit (although with so many pregnant–it will be mighty interesting bachelorette parties!). :)

Have a good day and Happy New Year!

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Your book list and mine have a lot of the same names on it, Haley. *g* It sounds like you’re going to have a lot of celebration parties this year. Those are the best.

  11. dbrown3400 says:

Looking forward to Lover at Last by J.R. Ward in her Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There’s a new Linda Howard coming out, but I’m going to wait for the reviews as her last few books have not been up to her previous standards.

I’m going to try to watch Seasons 1 & 2 of Downton Abbey before Season 3 begins. It’s a tall order with my time schedule, but with the rave reviews everyone on TGB gives the series, it’s worth a shot.

Also looking forward to the RT convention in Kansas City and another trip to Tulsa in May. Can’t wait to see my family again.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Donna, I think you’d love DA — but season three starts this weekend. That’s a lot of watching. *g* Have fun at your conferences! Are you going to Atlanta in July?

      1. dbrown3400 says:

Atlanta depends on how much money I can save towards both conferences.

    2. cail says:

I am SO excited for LAL!

  12. Julia London says:

I’m with Haley. I’ve been too focused on making it to the end of 2012 to think 2013. But now I am excited about the blank slate. I can color it in however I feel.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Exactly, Julia. And I’m going to try to color mine with some better work habits and more exercise. (As I sit on the couch typing this and playing video games. *g* Hey, it’s my last day of vacation.)

  13. Sheridan says:

I have quite a few things I am looking forward to… some big LIKE MOVING!!! :D and some not so big – the new Star Trek (why have they taken SO LONG?!?) and Iron Man.

I think I might have to bite the bullet this year and watch Downton Abbey.. I feel so left out. :D

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

You see, Sheridan, there’s a whole space-time continuum thing, and it’s difficult for time travel to be precise. Oh, you meant the MOVIE. *g*

Good luck with moving, and yes, watch DA!

  14. Cheri Champagne says:

I’m totally with you, Suzanne!! I’m SO looking forward to Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey to start!! Squeee!

I agree with you on the movies, as well. They’re all the ones I’m looking forward to, as well :)

It’s going to be a good year!

    1. Cheri Champagne says:

PS. I’m also looking forward to the arrival of baby #3 this year. He/she is due in June. :)

      1. Sheridan says:

        oooooh! Congratulations!!

      2. kez says:

Congrats on the new baby! I hope the next 6 months go smoothly for both of you. :)

      3. Suzanne Enoch says:

Woo hoo! I don’t suppose you’d consider naming the baby Bilbo, would you, Cheri? *g*

      4. Sabrina Jeffries says:

        Aww, congratulations!

      5. Freshechelle says:

        Wonderful news! Congratulations!

      6. Cheri Champagne says:

Thank you, ladies! So far everything has gone smoothly. I’m a little nervous about the next few months, but I’ve done it twice before, so I know what to expect :)

  15. kez says:

Hello Everyone! Just back to snowy SW Ohio from a week in Florida and the beautiful beach.

DD2 graduates from college in May. This is our big event this year – no tuition payments anymore! We are looking to channel the money into a trip to Ireland. Maybe this year or next as we have not decided.

I too look forward to the new Star Trek movie. They are doing such a good job with Roddenberry’s vision. As a LONG TIME fan I am so thrilled to see it keep going.

We turned off the cable early in 2012 so there is little television we are looking forward to missing. When we do see TV anymore we can hardly believe the amount of commercials. I will stream Castle the next day but that is all.

Other than that we are hoping for a quiet 2013 and many excellent books.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

You have more willpower than I do, kez! But a trip to Ireland is probably worth it!!

  16. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

I was looking forward to my nephew’s wedding until I realized it was just about the same time as the RWA conference. :/ Considering he hasn’t thanked me for the Green Bay Packers Jordy Nelson jersey I got him for Christmas I might just skip the wedding. ;)

Television wise I am looking forward to Smash and Downtown Abbey. When it comes to books I am always looking forward to my favorites new releases!

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Oh, dear. I’d probably go with RWA too, Kelly. *g*

  17. Connie Fischer says:

I’m looking forward to the return of Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Game of Thrones and any other good shows that come on again.

Of course, I cannot wait for the debut of more and more new novels each month. It is like a never-ending display of candies in a candy store.

I’m with you on being thankful for the end of the elections. Disgusting.

I’m also looking forward to hearing only GOOD news on TV. I pray we do not have any disasters at all this year. Can you imagine how wonderful that would be?

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

You and me both, Connie. Fingers crossed this year. We deserve a break, I think.

  18. Sandi in OH says:

I’m not looking forward to anything except a trip to the beach in the spring, more books, and more daylight. I watch very little television, see few movies because none of them grab my interest. I did see the latest James Bond movie though. The only movie we saw this year.

    1. Suzanne Enoch says:

Sandi, beach, books, and sunlight sounds awesome to me!

  19. Sabrina Jeffries says:

I’m waiting impatiently for Downton Abbey to begin!!

I am so, so, SO happy that my house renovations are up and I’ve planned no huge trips this year. I’ve got to catch up!

Oh, and can I mention that I have a new series starting this year?

  20. Freshechelle says:

It’s all about Downton Abbey for me. And getting through January workwise. I’ll be out of the country for episode #2 so I may have to avoid FB if I don’t want to see spoilers.

Other than that, the rest of the world of new releases is going to sneak up on me.

  21. Janae says:

Me, I’m looking forward to the kids going back to school Monday. Omigosh, I’m over the fighting and then loving each other 15 minutes later.

I’m looking forward to Downton Abbey, even if I accidentally read a spoiler about the Christmas special. I have to see what happens.
