The books we love
Woman Reading a Letter by Gerard ter Borch

Woman Reading a Letter by Gerard ter Borch

Now that the holidays have ended and our lives are somewhat returning to normal, let’s get back to one of our favorite topics: BOOKS!

If you received a bookstore gift card over the holidays, what was the first thing you wanted to buy with it?

How many books did you read over the holidays?

Did you set a reading goal for the year?

What book are you really looking forward to coming out this year?

I’ve read 4 books in the last 4 days! I’d say I’ve read about 9 books over the holidays. One of the books is a massive research book that will take me weeks to finish–counting it anyway since I dive into it every day.

I don’t set reading goals since I’m sure I’d forget what they were in a week. I just love to read and I read all the time. It’s my favorite thing to do.

At the moment, I’m dying to get into the Game of Thrones series and I expect I’ll plow through all the existing books in a week or so, then I’ll be eager for Book Six of that series, just like everyone else in the world. :)

  2. LoriHandeland says:

I bought Shadow Woman by Linda Howard. I was at a retreat with her when she was writing it and it sounded so great. I’m sure it is.

I read more than I thought I would over the holidays, maybe two books and a novella. I’d like to continue that trend into the new year. I need to read more. My stack is falling over, my kindle is bursting.

    1. Kelly Proellocks says:

Lori, I am always available to rehome books. *blinks innocently*

  3. Kelly Proellocks says:

I read maybe 7 to 10 books over the holiday period. That is fun reading and not evil assignment reading. I didn’t bother setting a reading goal for myself because I read so many books anyway that I not only aren’t bothering counting but even guessing at the amount would seem like skiting.

    1. Kelly Proellocks says:

Oh, I am looking forward to all of my favorite authors books that are being released. I did receive a gift card, two in fact and while I was seriously considering something from the list of books that I don’t have but I ended up choosing one of Karen’s, one of Anna Campbell’s and a book about a cat since I have this whole crazy cat lady thing going on.

  4. Sandi in OH says:

I read approximately 13 Christmas books/novellas starting in November. I read 82 books last year. I set my goal to read more than I did the year before. I keep a spreadsheet each year so I don’t buy books I already have. I didn’t get a gift card even though I asked for one.

  5. Julia London says:

Read only one over the holidays and now can’t decide which from my TBR pile I am going to read next.

  6. AmyS says:

I didn’t get to read at all over the holiday. I just had too much going on, and the only down time I did have was spent sick. I did get some gift cards and can’t wait to spend them. I am getting so excited for Madeline and Julia’s new books, as well as a few others. I don’t usually set a reading goal for myself, but usually I read between 50-60 books a year.

  7. Freshechelle says:

I read a couple of novels and a lot of short stories – thanks to LHLS. The content is really holding me over until the big releases coming in late January.

I can’t imagine setting a book goal or tracking what I read. Oh, to have the luxury of that kind of time.

  8. dbrown3400 says:

I got an Amazon gift card that I used part of to buy the conditioning kit for my new UGG boots.

I only read four books over the holidays because my babysitting schedule was insane.

It’s hard for me to set a reading schedule for the year because I read so many review books. I probably end up reading about 100 books during the course of a year.

Choosing one book is difficult because the Goddesses have a bunch coming out, then there’s Lover at Last by J.R. Ward, the new Teresa Medeiros, Robert Crais, and so many more.

  9. Connie Fischer says:

    Sadly, I didn’t get a gift card.

I read 10 books over the holidays and loved it. I was on a roll! :-)

I set a goal of 100 books to read and review at Goodreads for 2013.

It would be impossible and unfair to choose a book that I’m really looking forward to because my Wish List is endless. There are so many fabulous novels coming out that I am jumping up and down with glee at the thought. Love it!

  10. Sheridan says:

Sadly, I think I got through 2 books for the whole of December. I have an impressive stack of them that I meant to get through, though.

No reading goal other than to get through more of my TBR list.

I am really looking forward to JR Ward’s new one. I do love me some Black Dagger Brotherhood.

  11. Kathleen O says:

This was the first year I did not get any bookstore Gift Cards..but I got some other gift cards. I guess because my family thinks I have too many books on my bookshelves and my kindle to read already, but I tell them you can never have too many books.. They just don’t get the concept..

I read quite a bit over the month of December as my computer crashed and I have to get anew one. Some kind perosn who had a spare laptop sitting around gave me this one until I go to get a new one. So I am doing a lot more reading. I just finished The Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts and I am reading Dangerous Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones… I love her Tall, Dark and Deadly series… WOW…
    Happy Saturday…

    1. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

I just finished Dangerous Secrets recently. It was the first book I had read by LRJ, but it won’t be the last!

  12. aida alberto says:

I did set a goal of 144 books for this year because I’ve never really kept track of how much I do read. I did take one of my notebooks to write down and track how many books I buy and read each month. Did figure out that I’m reading about four books a week depending on what’s going or not. I’ll always squeeze in a new book in there somewhere. Am super excited to see what new books come out this year. Found myself reading a lot more fiction and chic lit than anything else. Don’t seem to read as much romance as I used even though I still read some.

  13. Pamiam says:

I received a B&N card and traded my daughter for the Amazon card she got since she has a Nook and I have a Kindle. I’m not sure what the first book I bought since I went a little crazy buying them. I had 11 days off and went on a reading frenzy. I wouldn’t set a reading goal since I probably read anywhere from 2 books (a busy week) to 4 books a week. I keep track of my series over a fictfact and am really amazed when I see the actual number of books I have read.
There are several books that I am waiting for but right now I will have to say I can’t wait for Maya Banks Highlander Most Wanted.

  14. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

I think I read about three books and one LHLS short story. I did get a gift card and have not used it yet. I don’t set a reading goal, I just read. And read. And read. There are so many books that I anticipate that I can’t name just one!

  15. Ginger Robertson says:

I was fortunate to receive a visa gift card from one of my professors and I’ve spent it all on ebooks for my kindle. I read several books during the holidays as I was off work for 2 weeks. I read several by Sophie Oak, Heather Rainier, and Julie Ann Walker.
I’m looking forward to reading Maya Banks “Shades of Gray” and looking forward to Steele’s story later this year. Linda Howard has a new one out that I want to get. Also, Lynn Raye Harris, Kate Angell, Kira Sinclair and others. I love books and more books.

  16. evlqn says:

No gift cards this year but I do have Amazon on speed dial. I have read between 9 and 11 books this holiday season, I love time off from school.
Really waiting for Time Untime by Kenyon and JR Ward’s Rapture and Lover At Last by JR Ward.
I never try to set reading goals, I just read whatever I can whenever I can. If I don’t read at least an hour a day I turn into something that truly frightens small children and some grown men.
And Lori Handeland, I am still waiting for more Nightcreature books, no pressure or anything.

  17. Judy, Judy, Judy says:

Looking forward to: Dream Eyes by Jayne Ann Krentz, Run To You by Rachel Gibson, latest Fast Track book by Erin McCarthy, Gift of Time by Sarah Wynde, A Custom-Fit Crime by Melissa Bourbon, Unlock the Truth by Robena Grant, Quick Fix by Linda Grimes and whatever Barbara Samuels O’Neal has out next.
Krentz book is out 1/8! yay!

  18. LilMissMolly says:

I only read a couple of books over the holidays. I usually read or listen to at least 100 books each year. I’d like to do the same this year.

  19. ladydawgfan says:

I received TWO $50 Barnes & Noble gift cards and a $25 Amazon gift card!! I will be visiting my local B&N tomorrow to blow them on the latest and greatest. The Amazon card will go to either more books or a new snorkel to replace the one that floated away when my sis and I were in the Nassau last November (2011) or both!!

As to the book goal, since I wasn’t able to read but one book over the holiday season due to the general craziness of the season, my TBR pile is out of control, even before I add to it with the new releases. My goal is to read as many books as fast as possible. Does that suffice??

  20. Mary Preston says:

I did not have much of a chance to read over the holidays. Visitors will do that. I don’t set reading goals. I like to just read what I want when I want – visitors not withstanding.

  21. Amy in Centreville says:

Very much looking forward to Madeline Hunter’s new release next month.

  22. BarackObamaShouldPutEmpow says:
