I am in deep, DEEP deadline mode right now, which means I’m having to wrestle the Procrastination Monster with both hands. Sadly, the closer I am to deadline, the stronger the monster becomes.
My favorite procrastination is called ‘Research,’ but is also known as ‘Reading.’ Suddenly, each and every book in my house NEEDS, MUST, HAS TO BE read. They call me, tempt me, tantalize me — well, I think you guys know how it goes.
Oh, and did I mention the Online Shopping? Hot Cop says he always knows I’m getting close to deadline when packages start arriving on our front porch. I usually hit up DSW for shoes and engage in fierce bidding wars on Ebay for antique prints. Wrestling my deadline can be very expensive.
And then there’s Dragonvale, which is a silly, silly downloadable game that I’m playing with my niece. We have islands and we have dragons and they race each other and go on quests and we visit each other and — oh, it’s quite the complicated little game. So far she’s winning, too, which stings somehow. I mean, I don’t want to BEAT her, she’s only 12, but STILL . . .
There are a million other ways I find myself drawn away from the computer — laundry suddenly looks like fun and extremely NECESSARY, and I start cooking far more elaborate meals, the flowers seem to need watering more often, HGTV shows become super fascinating, and oh — it’s amazing the things that call me away from the computer.
I WRESTLE with my procrastination. I FIGHT it. And I sometimes lose.
Do you ever find yourself procrastinating? What sort of things do you do when you should be working on something? What are your favorite procrastinations? And do any of you play Dragonevale? I could use some red crystals. Just sayin’.

The Goddess Blogs are my favorite procrastination. Reading on Mt. Oly is the best way for me to avoid nasty budgets and processing paperwork.
Never played Dragonvale although if I had red crystals I would be willing to make a trade for a book or two…
If you need someone to shoe shop with, just let me know! Florida is only a flight away.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 8:35 am.
I consider The Goddess Blogs as ‘necessary mental health moment’ and thus uncoupled it from my lamentable procrastination efforts.
And don’t tempt me with the shoe shopping. The four walls of my den are starting to close in, but I MUST, MUST, MUST finish this book.
MUS– Oh look! Property Virgins! I love that show.
***sigh***

The Internet is my big procrastinator. Gotta see what clever things my friends are saying on FB. And what does People magazine have to tell me on Twitter? There’s LOL cats and I can always obsessively check my amazon numbers or my ebook sales. I keep thinking I need to get one of those timers for my computer that won’t allow me on the internet for a certain amount of time. But I don’t.

What does it say about us that the two Wisconsin women are first to procrastinate?
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 8:50 am.
If we’re first, is that procrastinating?
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 10:10 am.
LOL! Yes.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:43 am.
I didn’t mention Amazon numbers. What WAS I thinking? There’s that, too. And FB. FB is a definite time suck.
I have one of those timer-programs installed on my computer. I just ah, haven’t turned it on. Ever. Yet.

You’re blogging today? That’s just more procrastination, girly girl.
Well, I’ve read your books. I’ve loved your books. If procrastination is what makes them so good, play on.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 9:03 am.
Fresh, thank you. That helps soothe the savage WHYISNTTHISFINISHED beast that keeps blowing panicky heat my way.
And yes, tgb is sort of procrastination and sort of work. Sort of.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:47 am.
I procrastinate whenever I have an assignment due (and one is kinda due soon but I am up to the proof reading stage so yeah). I used to have a routine for my studies but when I moved in with Sci Fi Guy to help him out with his bills and stuff it all went to hell, especially when he quit working at the bakery and began to work on weekends at Sizzler. This means that he is around all the damn time and I can’t concentrate on what I am supposed to be doing on what day. So as a result, washing gets done and put out on the line, vacuuming the carpet (something that I am trying to not obsess over anyway) is done more than once a week since it never gets clean enough! and then there is the sweeping, watching my daytime shows, occasionally the dishes (if they weren’t done the night before), folding up and other hellish chores that HAVE to be done (since it feels like I am the only one doing them anyway at times). At the moment I am torn between doing the carpet and tidying the kitchen table. Gamer Dude pulled his laptop apart a couple of months ago because it was playing up – again and hasn’t gotten around to fixing it. If I get really bad I will dust (which I hate doing with a passion) and do the ironing (really need to do that on Saturday along with all the other housework so that the place is tidy for the friends coming over on Sunday to celebrate my birthday which is on Monday) which I don’t hate nearly as much as dusting. I have found that living with two guys – one of whom is really lazy and a slob and the other who likes little piles of mess, is a lesson in patience and self control because if I weren’t so self controlled I would have had an OCD related tantrum by now and trashed the joint which would have then lead to more procrastinating while I cleaned it all up. *sigh*
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 9:09 am.
Kelly, sheesh. Sounds like you guys need to pool your money and hire a maid!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:49 am.
Oh, yes. Procrastination is a greedy %itch…. She gets us all in a death grip and is not wanting to let us go.
My personal procrastination love is, of course, TGB. I’m here most every day, and I usually check back several times to see the witty comments that are left.
Another would be these two little game apps I found, Diamond Dash and Jewels Star (like Bejeweled). I could honestly play them until my battery ran out on my phone and I would be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery.
I have downloaded the Kindle app to my phone too and, quite frankly, I’m terrified to download a book because I’m afraid I’ll get hooked on that too.
Twitter is bad too. That’s even worse than FB for me because I see so much from so many people in short little bursts, since it’s 140 characters or less.
Then, there is online shopping at QVC, Yankee Candle, Bath & Body Works…I could go on.
Notice I’m here, right. Procrastination this early in the am is a bad sign for the rest of the day.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 9:37 am.
See, I don’t count TGB as procrastination so much as a Mental Health Day.
The rest of it, I’m with you. I forgot to mention Twitter, which is another time sucker, oh and do NOT mention the other intriguing online shopping opportunities this week. DO. NOT. I just — Oh wow, Yankee Candles is having a SALE!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:51 am.
I KNOOOOWWW…..I’ve been buying all kinds of stuff from them and BBW–semi annual sales are amazing! Although, I usually end up spending way too much money, but I get more FOR my money, right?!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 4:47 pm.
Procrastination…yeah I’m familiar. Usually I go out and buy one of the goddessess books and ignore the fact that my house needs to be cleaner.
Dragonville, nope. I get too into video games. Tend to forget they are a game and take it personally when my characters die….so, probably not good for my zen lifestyle.
How do I battle procrastination? I look up and realize that if I don’t take care of things I’m going to be featured on a Hoarders episode.
That’s enough to spur the cleaning engines.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 9:39 am.
You should check out How Clean Is Your House. The two ladies on it are enough to spur me into cleaning and even dust because they act so horrified at some of the places that they clean as the people are huge, tragic slobs of the first order.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 10:36 am.
Kelly, is that on the BBC?
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:53 am.
Pesky, maybe I should pretend that if I don’t finish this book on time then I’ll be abandoned in a Hoarder’s House for a week. I watch that show sometimes and GAH. How can they live like that? It makes me itch to clean out my closets.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:52 am.
I know! I know it can get a bit beyond you, but the fact that they can’t throw the stuff out is what gets me. I hate throwing books out, but I do donate them to the local book drive.
Other then that the only thing I’m a don’t throw out is my comfies my cats and my relatives, other then that, go to town.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 7:50 pm.
Let’s see, not in any order but here we go. Reading, netflix, facebook, baking, and TGB. And the weirdest one of all. Lists. I have actually caught myself making lists of how and what I need to do just to avoid doing it for a little bit longer.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 10:01 am.
Oh, Netflix! I forgot them.
I do the list thing, too! I make them on post-its and I’ll have hundreds and hundreds of them. Very cool that you do that, too. SEE, FATE! I’M NOT ALONE!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:54 am.
Reading, surfing the net, and otherwise finding something more important to do. Those are my major procrastinations. If I get really desperate, there is always a toilet or two to clean. However, I did get the Christmas snowmen down this week, then I made the family have a “carry party” in which I made everyone carry the Christmas stuff back down to the basement. It helps a lot when you get four people walking the stairs and not just me lugging everything down.!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 10:24 am.
Amanda, good for you for getting the family involved! I’m sure that will make up a part of their Christmas memories, too.
Now if only I could make a family project out of hammering out the inner conflict of my hero in my current work-in-progress. He’s being so stubborn and four of us getting that just right would be much better than just me, trying to talk it through with my dogs.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:56 am.
I’ll work on my procrastination issues. Later.
Right now I’m busy on TGB. Then I’ll visit Facebook. Then I’ll visit Pinterest, where I really could get lost for hours. Then I’ll visit TGB again to read everyone else’s comments. And so it goes! It’s kind of like a dog chasing its tail.
I try not to procrastinate, but I believe it’s one of those things that are inevitable. It is just what extreme you take it to!
Good luck, Karen!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 10:30 am.
Lol! Later … such a lovely place!
Hmm. I like what you said about procrastination being inevitable, but not being extreme about it. That may be the way to look at it — yes, I’m going to do it, but I’m only going to do it a little. That makes it seem much more do-able.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:57 am.
Thank you. Off to check out Dragonvale immediately. It cannot wait. Must be done AT ONCE.
And I don’t even have a deadline
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 10:30 am.
No deadline?
I hate you. Love your books, but hate you. Just for a few moments and then I’ll remember something funny you said and I’ll like you again.
And yes, Dragonvale must be played. A word of warning, though. You can’t just hatch the cute little things: DRAGONS HAVE TO BE FED, YOU KNOW.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:58 am.
All things falling under the heading of housecleaning fall into the category of I’d rather be flying than clean house. I use books, computer visiting sites like this and TV/Netflix to take up my time and thereby avoid cleaning. Netflix is the BEST time waster EVER! And MaidPro takes care of the house cleaning!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:07 am.
Karen, oh, Netflix can kill a few hours without even trying. As far as procrastination goes, it’s amazingly high quality.
And good for you and MaidPro! I have house cleaners who come every other week and get me ‘caught up.’ I’ll go hungry before I give them up. I love, love, LOVE them.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:03 pm.
I procrastinate on a few things, but most of the time I just want to get whatever it is done and move on. This has become even more the case since I am currently residing with the Lord God King of All Procrastinators. It’s an actual title that he has held for years now. I hear they were going to send him a medal or crown, but they’re still working on it…
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:45 am.
You have a great How Not To Work example there, don’t you? I need that inspiration. I just have so many things I want to work on — website, ebook, etc. But I must, must finish this one first.
Focus, Hawkins! Focus!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:04 pm.
Living the “dream” with you right now, Karen.
Deadline looms. I watch more HGTV. The only thing that helps me get the writing done is to leave the house.
I do the same things you do: garden, read, TV, movies, shop, laundry. Last night I cleaned BEHIND THE DOWNSTAIRS TOILET. Who, in their right mind, does that?!
Answer: only those who are not in their right mind.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:50 am.
Claudia, I’ve been unplugging my cable router. It also knocks out the net, so then there’s nothing else to do but write.
Well, except laundry. And oh, behind the toilet! I hadn’t thought about that, but I bet it’s dusty and I should at least look———-
We need help, Claudia. Counseling, perhaps even inpatient therapy.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:06 pm.
Never, ever, ever, EVER look behind the toilet.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:09 pm.
Especially if you have boys…. I don’t even want to know what’s back there.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 4:50 pm.
I’m in the process of trying to get my MS into shape for TWO constests with deadlines this week…so of course, I’m here reading…playing facebook…actually folding laundry…I did, though, make a concerted effort NOT to go to the gym so I have more time to write. Although, yeah, it wasn’t that big of a sacrifice.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:56 am.
Mary, good luck with your contests!
I find that my procrastination hasn’t extended to the gym. I’m willing to forgo the gym just to eat a snack.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:06 pm.
Is it anything to do with “Jeez! I’m tired of editing and polishing this story. How many more times do I have to go over and over this? If only the deadline was NOW I’d HAVE to stop, wouldn’t I?”
Or maybe I’ve misunderstood and your stories emerge fully finished from your keyboard on the first pass?
Note to self: Stop procrastinating and get back to the editing…
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:56 am.
Philip. that’s EXACTLY it. I read it over and over and over and tweak and tweak and tweak — it’s frustrating.
But I’m almost done here, so I’m offline for two hours just to write and polish and tweak and write and polish and tweak and . . . well, you know how it goes.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:08 pm.
Oh I do, I do. And self-discipline has never been a strong suit for me, so it’s tough. At least the weather is miserable so it’s not tempting to go outside!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:25 pm.
I could use some rain, too. It helps. It really does.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 4:17 pm.
Sure, we all procrastinate. It’s human. I think we do it because we’re a bit stressed from all of the things we have to do. Therefore, when you feel that way, give into it, but only for a certain period of time. Tell yourself you will take one solid hour to do anything or nothing. That’s your chill time. When the hour is up, take a deep breath and tackle what you’ve been putting off. It doesn’t mean you have to move that whole mountain staring at you but you can budge it a bit. You will feel good that you accomplished something and your stress level stays down! Good luck!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 11:56 am.
Connie, what a thoughtful reply! And yes, sometimes the To Do List can send you running for the laundry basket. At least that’s something with a finite end that you can start and finish, all in one day’s time.
I’m going to take your suggestion and let you know how it works. Thank you for the do-able idea!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:10 pm.
Yes!! I find that the procrastination monster gets at me regularly, I’m afraid. I don’t have any deadlines (as I self publish), but I’ve set personal goals, and when I don’t reach them I’m very disappointed.
I find myself frequently on Facebook (like somehow it will change in the two minutes that I have logged out of it), Pinterest is HORRIBLE for procrastinators!! I could say to myself that I’ll be on there for only a minute, but half an hour will pass by without my even noticing. I come here regularly, and I also check out my Goodreads and my sales reports. Sigh. How can one not obsessively check those things??
Apart from internet-related things, I often coerce one of my sons onto my lap and force him to cuddle me for the duration of a movie. Oh, and my PVR requires regular checking (is there anything new that I should watch?) I love Big Bang Theory, home renovation/buying shows, the Office, Red Dwarf (I watch that one on my iPad)… the list goes on.
I’ve never played Dragonevale, but I love Scramble With Friends and Draw Something. Those are far too fun. Good luck!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:27 pm.
Cheri, you have exquisite taste in teevee shows. I can see how that could be distracting for you. It’s like a curse!
And oh, don’t get me started on Draw Something. My friend and I are on game #192 and it just keeps on going. Love that game.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 4:21 pm.
I had nearly reached turn #300 with my cousin when my son (aged 2) decided to steal my iPad while I was cooking dinner one day… Needless to say, we returned to turn #1 and are trying to work our way up again. The sad thing is… my son seemed to have loved playing it, as well. Now I have to keep close tabs on my iPad at all times…

This has been interesting. I’ve actually learned some new ways to procrastinate. Normally, I do TGB, emails, FB, and the MYHABIT, Zappos and ideeli sites to see what I must have. I’ve gotten hooked on Twitter, too. There are some interesting posts on there, and I don’t even follow that many people. I’m on deadline every month for the magazine and have gotten out of the habit of leaving the reading AND writing until the last minute. When I do that it seems as though something in real life gets in the way. I have a brain like a sieve, so try to write the reviews right away after reading the book. That’s better that rereading the book–a real time suck. I like to read my own books when I’m on hiatus.
I don’t play any games any longer, except for Cinderella UNO with the little one. She beats the socks off of me. I’m a pro-active Nana, which keeps me occupied. I got too involved with Farmville to attempt any more FB games. I’m proud to say I quit cold turkey. I do spend more time on sports than I should, even listening to all the warm-up shows, and the endless commentary afterwards. At least I can read during that. Good old multitasking.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:54 pm.
dbrown, exactly! There are just so many fun things to do out there.
Btw, I’m just starting to enjoy Twitter. I’ve been on it for a while, but it’s so much fun to read and I like the quickness of it all. Of course, it’s dangerous to like it — another distraction!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 4:36 pm.
Procrastinate?? No I never do that, I have heard of people who do, but I don’t personally know anyone with that affliction. I sometimes move my schedule around to encompass more pressing things such as TGB, Facebook, Jigzone, managing my Kindle on Amazon. You know the really important stuff that needs to take precedence over bill paying, homework, and putting away all the Christmas decorations still in the totes ready to be returned to the garage.
And then I have to read a certain amount everyday for the health and safety of all who are around me. It is a really a public service I am providing, you can thank me now or later depending upon your personal procrastination level.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 12:59 pm.
eviqn, I’ll thank you now. THANK YOU.
I can see that I could reframe the things that I’m er, doing for my family, then I’d sound angelic.
Hmmm. You know, I like how you think, eviqn. I like how you think!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 4:57 pm.
Um, I hate to make menus and grocery shopping. Part of it is that I might plan the menu, but not feel like eating what’s on the menu a couple of days later. It doesn’t help having a super picky eater either. I’ll maybe plan a meal or two at a time, and then go to the store.
Diversions that find myself using are, the internet, reading, jewelry making, etc.
Speaking of jewelry making, I should be listing stuff on etsy, but it’s a REALLY involved process that’s not fun. Just pricing it is tedious. It seems that many people do not want to pay for an artist’s time or a quality, one of a kind piece of jewelry that’s going to outlast most of the jewelry they’re buying themselves in Old Navy, Anthropology, etc. Add the pictures, listing, advertising after the listing, etc, when you’re pretty much the only parent home 5 days a week, it’s really difficult. If I want to sell jewelry in local boutiques, I have to mark up my pieces 40% because that’s what the boutique owner takes to have your stuff in her shop.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 1:18 pm.
Janae, those are pretty much my diversions, too, if you take ‘jewelry making’ and replace it with ‘Dragonvale.’
I’m so sorry you’re finding that out about jewelry shoppers.
I hope you find a local outlet that will showcase your pieces in a way, and at a price, that reflects your work. That’s tough.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:07 pm.
Thanks, Karen. I did sell some pieces last month – 2 at a local art center’s ceramic and jewelry sale (first time jewelry artists were invited to the sale), and 3 pieces to some friends. It was great, but I’ve SO many pieces that need to be sold. I almost feel bad making more pieces without a venue to sell them..
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 8:44 pm.
Oh, yes. Laundry. The book that just must be read. And the grocery store is calling me too. My email seem sluggish today and I just can’t get started until I see more of it in my inbox (which will postpone when I’m getting started!).
Good luck on the deadline, though, Karen! Despite a little procrastinating, I know you can do it.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 1:22 pm.
Christie, it’s amazing how fun a load of towels can be when there’s writing to be done. AMAZING.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:12 pm.
Never played Dragonvale. Is it really fun? I had it, but never tried and opened it. Maybe I should.
I have a presentation tomorrow and a test on Friday morning. Here I am. Yup
My favorite procrastination is probably SongPop?
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 1:23 pm.
Yup, it’s fun! Or I think so, but then it doesn’t take much to entertain me — LOOK, THERE’S SOMETHING SHINY!
Good luck on your presentation and test.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:13 pm.
No, I don’t play Dragonvale. Yet. Is this revenge for me introducing you to Bookworm? *g*
I am also a queen of procrastination. Paperclip chains, well-watered plants, dvd’s in alphabetical order, you name it.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 1:51 pm.
Revenge? **blinks innocently** Me?
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:13 pm.
Since Hubble got hurt and is home 24/7, I have the self-discipline of an infant. With him unable to do much, my routines got shot in the rear, my workload increased, and I can’t seem to find a rhythm. Overwhelmed equals procrastination. So much to do, don’t know where to start, start nothing. Can you say self-defeating?
Working to get a handle on it—although, right now, I best get my hands on the snow shovel’s handle!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 1:59 pm.
Gwyn, there’s something about that — ‘overwhelmed equals procrastination.’ Very, very true.
I hope things with your Hubbie improve. That’s tough — Hot Cop was home a half a day this week and it really disrupted my schedule, too, so I have a (very) little idea of what’s that like.
Sending you big, big hugs!

Plants vs Zombies. I just wasted 2 hours hour killing zombies. Now I MUST work.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 2:59 pm.
WAIT. There’s a Plants v Zombies?
Oh no.
Sigh.
I’ll be back in a few hours.

HGTV is the world’s greatest TV procrastination EVER. Except for Dr. Who. I procrastinate because things have to be PERFECT, and I know I can’t do that, so if I try I’ll only be seriously disappointed so I’ll put it off just a few more minutes, and gee, Scott McGillivray is one hot guy. If it’s not HGTV, then I find an excuse to work on the Wonder Woman part of my website or find my brushes and get some paintings done (but they’ve got to be PERFECT!) or pretend to organize the house or read. A bad book can actually get me to STOP procrastinating. Bleah to awful books, especially if they were expensive! Lord knows there are too many of ‘em out there, and I manage to buy at least one every month…
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 3:24 pm.
I love HGTV. And Scott? He was a FROS once and wow, was he ever an EXCELLENT FROS, too.
It sounds like you have a lovely procrastination network set up. As for Wonder Woman, why don’t they make a new movie for that superhero? It would be fabulous.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:24 pm.
Reading, Pinterest, Facebook, and looking up random items online are my favorite forms of procrastination. Housecleaning and baby-tending is my job right now (am a housewife).. baby watching is fine, sometimes even all sorts of fun, but I HATE housecleaning. Cooking and baking are fun, but then I have to clean the kitchen
.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 3:38 pm.
Miranda, see? If you had something else to do, then the housework would seem like fun. I know laundry isn’t fun, but it’s not work because there’s something else I should be doing and — Oh, it’s a psychological trick and I know it. It does get my laundry done, though, so that’s the plus side.
Enjoy your time with you kiddo, though. Seriously, that’s all you really HAVE to do and oh, they’re such fun when they’re little.
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:28 pm.
Ah yes…..the Procrastination Monster and I are on a first name basis. Reading is probably #1, followed by Pinterest (because you just need to find the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe), concluded with making lists. Yep–I procrastinate by making lists of alll the things I SHOULD be doing. In order to get anything done, you must be organized first, right?
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 4:01 pm.
Haley, I love Pintarest. I don’t pin on it very often as I drift aimlessly like a dandelion fluff on the wind, landing here, reading that, printing this. It’s absorbing.
And oh yes, I’m quite familiar with the I MUST ORGANIZE AND MAKE LISTS method of procrastination. It’s a feel-good time waster because, as you say, you must be organized first, right? RIGHT?
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:34 pm.
Right. Totally agree. Now will you please finish that book! For those of us waiting “patiently”. I mean how are we supposed to put off what we need to do if we don’t have exciting new books ready to read?
P.S. Please!!
Posted on January 16, 2013 at 6:00 pm.
Good luck with the deadline!

I do alot of procrastination when I have to finish reading one of my Historical novels (like right now) and when I have to work on my papers for classes. My favorite procrastination is reading blurbs of upcoming Historical novels and looking for new books and authors for my next read, even when I have a load of books piling up on my drawer top that hasn’t been read yet. Just can’t help it..I love books~!

Hi Karen.
I’ve been way too busy at work to procrastinate. Wishing that I could, when I have my computer on, I’m actually working, which is wrong, all day. No time for Facebook, Amazon, AOL, USA Today HEA…. So kill a little time for me.

Good luck with the deadline. I find myself procrastinating when I”m overwhelmed. Like now. End of semester. Grades are due. Students are whining about their grade. I must not pick up book and zone out in class. Facebook & all the fun game sites are blocked at school so I can’t use that to pass the time. I’ll figure it out. I do like many of the suggestions I’ve seen here!

Let me see – check out my favorite blogs, check out Facebook, check out Twitter, read a chapter in a research book, edit manuscript, let the dogs out and let them back in, wash the dishes, take out the trash, read a chapter in another research book, let the dogs out and then let them in, change the litter boxes, check my e-mail, check Facebook again, check out my favorite blogs again, check out Twitter again. Get the picture? My only good fortune is I am so far out in the country I don’t get television, none of it, not the first channel. If I did …. shudder, it doesn’t bear thinking upon!

Yes, I procrastinate. Work has been slow this week, I’m searching for things to do. I could organize the storage shed, but it the temp is only in the lower 20s.
I finally cleaned a section of my kitchen last month. Half of it went into a huge tote box and out to the shed. A quarter is on my desk and the rest got trashed. I brought my card table in and used the space to wrap presents. Hauled everything back out to the shed so I could put my christmas tree there. Brought my tree home on the 20th and laid it in front of my carport until I could borrow the saw the next day. I got sick that night (had kidney stones) and spent half of the 21st at the doctor. My tree is still laying in front of my carport.
Instead of cleaning, I read, browse FB and watch tv. Since it is just me, I do not have anyone else to worry about.

I always lose my fight with that monster! Thank goodness it doesn’t really matter as I’m disabled and retired. Would hate to have to fight it if I was in your shoes. Of course from what I read in your blog post, you’ve got plenty of shoes to wear while fighting it.
