What a WEEK!

Goddesses! Guest goddesses! Prizes! Valentine’s Day! More prizes!

Whew!

It’s time to wrap up our anniversary week, so we thought we’d take a little time this Saturday to say thank you for being a part of The Goddess Blogs and our celebration week!

For our final celebration day, let’s take a moment to think about your ideal get together. You have a table for four set with beautiful linens, gorgeous dishes and glassware surrounding an eclectic floral centerpiece that draws it all together. The weather is perfect – blue skies and puffy clouds with a light breeze stirring the warm air. Little finger sandwiches and perfectly brewed tea, coffee and refreshing lemonade are artfully arranged on a side table, as if waiting for the guests to arrive.

You take your seat and look around at the other three chairs. If you could invite anyone, who would be joining you for this lovely afternoon tea?

One lucky commenter will win a selection of five books.

The Laird Who Loved Me from Karen Hawkins

Dangerous in Diamonds from Madeline Hunter

To Pleasure a Prince by Sabrina Jeffries

The Revenge of Lord Eberlin by Julia London

In Love with Her Boss by Christie Ridgway.

P.S. from the Goddesses: Since this is our anniversary week, EVERY COMMENT MADE TODAY will also be entered to win in the drawing for our GRAND PRIZES – a $200 bookstore gift card, and two $100 bookstore gift cards! SO COMMENT, COMMENT, COMMENT!  (Contest is open to international entries, but we reserve the right to substitute a $10 gift card)

  1. KellyProellocks says:

I would have Shemar Moore, Karen Hawkins and Steven Hawking so we can all talk about crime shows, romance novels and physics while Karen and I perve on Shemar Moore (who is shirtless by the way) and the life size cardboard cut out of Hugh Jackman that is over by the flowers.

  2. Mary Preston says:

I’d invite my Mother & my sisters. Nothing beats catching up over a cup of tea. We will all talk at once & carry on a number of conversations at the same time. A lot of laughing going on & we will solve all the problems of the world by the time the second pot of tea runs dry.

  3. JessS says:

I’d either just go with my best friends (Steph, Georgie and Zeeba), or a friend, my younger sister and a celebrity crush like Tom Hiddleston.
    Thanks!

  4. QuenKne M says:

As much as would love to enjoy this beautiful tea party, I would have to give it to my Mom and invite her two best friends – they don’t get to see each other much since they live all over the country. My Mom is the ultimate giver, never thinking of herself, and she takes care of everybody.
She hasn’t had a vacation in 20 years and a tea party with friends would make a wonderful afternoon.

  5. susan says:

Perhaps it’s against the rules, but I wouldn’t invite three persons. One would be enough. If he’s the right one…

  6. aida alberto says:

Barbara Samuel. I am madly in love with the way she writes and I would love to have an afternoon tea with her. But that’s not to say that I wouldn’t love an afternoon tea with all the other Goddesses. Wow. That would be fun.

  7. Freshechelle says:

Three old friends from across the country who I don’t see enough of and who don’t know each other. I like them each for different reasons. I’d want them to “get” and like each other as much as I get and value each of them.

  8. JenG says:

That is really difficult for me to answer. I’m not a big, fancy party type person. I hardly ever have people to my house, tho I do get invited to ladies nights etc but it is never anything fancy. Fancy scares me!!!! I’m all about meeting new people who I think I’d have a connection to but I think if I invited anyone famous (goddesses included) I would go all freaked out fangirl on them!!! Yeah, that might be uncomfortable :)

That being said, can I pull up some extra chairs and have all the goddesses together? Maybe if I had you all together, I wouldn’t get so unnerved??? Heck, lets just make it a Mt. Oly party and have all our regulars. That would be fun :)

  9. Sandi in OH says:

I was going to say my grandchildren since they live in NC but I’d rather do it one to one. Each one needs grandma time. I would invite my sisters-in-law who live in three different states.

  10. Miranda says:

Narrow it down to only 3… tough things. My maternal grandmother, my mother, and my sister I guess. I don’t see them nearly often enough, and they’re lots of fun when we’re all together :-) .

  11. Lisa Hill says:

My grandmother who died when I was 13, and two of my closest friends who have moved to other states.

  12. Amy in Centreville says:

    I would invite President Obama.
I would invite evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins (someone has to bring a UK accent)
I would invite very good friend Fred M. who is a genuine rocket scientist and merciless debater.
While these people wrangle I eat the cookies.

  13. Jen B says:

Well this would be easy if the 2 were still alive :p Even know that I’d go with my Mom, Grandma and my daughter! So fun!

  14. Texas Book Lover says:

I’d invite the few other book lovers in my real life April, Stacey and Jade because no one else lets me talk books so I rarely get to do so…and every true book lover needs time to chat about books!
    mmafsmith AT gmail DOT com

  15. Amanda says:

I would invite my friend Kara, my mom and my grandma who passed back in ’95.

  16. Malea says:

Just three? I’d need to choose from:
    my mother, who died when I was 33 and never got to see me finish grad school;
    my great-grandmother, she was the person who really taught me how to cook;
    my maternal grandmother, who died when I was 18 and never got to see me grow up;
and my daughter & her brand new baby girl.
I can’t imagine anything better than all these women around the table together.

  17. Sue K says:

I would invite my two sisters and my best friend, Johanna. I’ve never met Jo (she lives in Oregon) but we “talk” almost everyday. I know my sisters would welcome her with open arms. But, I also have my two DILs I would want to invite and two grand daughters. Then I have lots of nieces and grand-nieces. Wow, by the time I invited all the ladies I’d want to join me, we’d be sitting at a banquet table having a “Mad Hatter” tea party! Wearing hats of course! :)

  18. Looney Tune says:

I hate awkwardness and long moments of uncomfortable silence. Therefore, I would want to share the good fortune of having a beautiful, perfect, outdoor, fancy afternoon with my three best girlfriends. Just spending the day together would make it a memorable day for all of us.

  19. Judy F says:

I would invite my best friend Ann, seems we never get to spend enough time together. Also would like to invite my friend Cryna who lives in Canada she has been a wonderful friend to me last year. Lastly I would invite my mom, she went so quickly there are so many things I want to tell her.

  20. dbrown3400 says:

Thia is a tough one. Although there are many celebrities I’d like to invite, including our friendly Goddesses from here, I’d love to catch up with three of my sisters-in-law that I never get to see. They were wonderful the little bit of time we were together at the luncheon last October, but the time was just too short. And there wasn’t any one-to-one time. That visit made me realize just how much I miss my family.

  21. Renee P says:

I’ve always said I would love to have Tom Hanks over for a BBQ so maybe I could have him to tea?

  22. May says:

    Hmmm… well… maybe Neil Gaiman?

  23. AmyA says:

Hmmm, my mother, her two sisters and my sister. We all have such a good time together!!

  24. Kelly Ryan Watson says:

I would love to sit down and drink tea with P!nk, Barbara Samuel:), and my mom.

  25. Martha B says:

This was a no-brainer for me. I immediately thought of 3 best friends Marleigh, Kris and Gayle. They are life long friends who continue to be in my support network.

They met my emotionally and physical needs during a major health crisis by providing meals, doing laundry, cleaning the house and drove me to endless doctor appointments. I am so grateful for them (and blessed to be alive)!

Then I thought, oh dear, I probably should ask someone famous or try to be clever in my answer….However, these people feed my soul.

  26. Cheryl says:

So hard to choose just 3, but either my mom, sister and grandmother (who passed in 1990) or my same grandmother and my 2 daughters…who she never got to meet.

    1. B says:

If we could bring the dead back, I’d so have my grandma, too <3

  27. Ellen says:

It would probably my 3 girlfriends who I don’t get to see very often. My Mom and Sisters would have been a choice, but, I have 5 sisters. (Wouldn’t want to leave any of them out.)

  28. Karen H in NC says:

Well, I would invite 3 of my top ten favorite authors. They are: Sabrina Jeffries, Julia Quinn and Stephanie Laurens. Now, if by chance Stephanie can’t make it all the way from Australia, I’m sure Eloisa James could fill her chair!

It’s been a fun week visiting with all the lovely Goddesses. Happy Anniversary…and I’m looking forward to spending many more fun-filled years with everyone.

  29. Patoct says:

I would invite 3 of best friends. What better way to enjoy a lovely lunch.

  30. Angela B says:

I would invite my three favorite goddesses: Karen Hawkins, Sabrina Jeffries and Madeline Hunter. If they aren’t available I would ask Eloisa James, Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor.

I have enjoyed this anniversary week with the goddesses.

I hope for many more fun-filled years

  31. AmyS says:

I would love to have tea with my BFF and her mom, both moved to Ireland 4 years ago and I have only seen them once since. We used to have afternoon tea at least twice a week before they moved. So it would be nice to sit down and do tea again. I would also invite my Grandma because I don’t see her enough and I know how much she would love it.

  32. Karen H near Tampa says:

Since it’s tea, I would invite my Mom and my two sisters who live in the Tampa area (my sister in Ohio is out of luck unless she can get a flight). We adore having high tea and try to do one every year or so with the nieces and now great-nieces as they get old enough.

  33. Rebe says:

I’d love to get Ilona and Gordon Andrews and Jeaniene Frost in a room. I think they’d be hilarious together!

  34. B says:

My mom, my brother and my 20 year old cousin. We always die laughing when we’re together. I’d go fancy and invite a lot of people I’d like to meet. But family is family <3

  35. Heather W. says:

I would have tea with my 3 favorite authors, and Madeline Hunter would be one of them! If they weren’t available, I’d have my 3 dearest friends. One of them lives 10 minutes away, one lives hundreds of miles away in Wisconsin, and the 3rd lives on an island in the West Indies! I think we’ll have the party on that island!

  36. Rochelle says:

I love the setting. My guests would be my mom, my dearest cousin who is like a sister, and a few of my BFFs. I know that is more than 4, but I pulled up a few extra chairs and place settings!

  37. Maria P says:

I’d invite my 3 nieces. It’s rare when I get to spend any time with them, since everyone has such busy schedules. Katrina & Susie are in their Junior year at the high school that I myself attended; Susie’s older sister, Lucia, would round out our group. I am very proud of the women that they are becoming. Having afternoon tea would be a treat for all of us!

  38. Philomena D says:

I would invite my 2 BFF from HS and my other BFF from genealogy group. This past Christmas season, my BFFs from HS, we went to a tea shop to celebrate and it was a grat time.

  39. Connie Fischer says:

Some authors who have been so friendly to me would probably be those I would invite. They are:

    Karen Ranney
    Anna Campbell
    Sandra Worth

The genres they write are somewhat different but it would be great to listen to these lovely ladies talk about their work.

  40. Ashley Morris says:

I would bring my friend Brian and my two former flatmates Joy and Nancy, who I all met while I was studying in England for a few months and miss now that an ocean is separating us.

  41. Julie says:

Just because I think they are such fascinating women, I would probably have Helen Mirren, Sandra Bullock and Paula Deen. They are all beautiful and funny, and I’m thinking it wouldn’t be 10 minutes before we would get noise complaints from all the laughter. ;)

  42. Cheri Champagne says:

My Meme (grandmother) — what I wouldn’t give to see her again!
    My Mom
Elizabeth Bennett — If I’m using my imagination, why not invite a fictional character?

  43. jcp says:

    my grandmas and my dog.

  44. Annwitch says:

I would invite my mother and twin daughters. The girls are graduating fron college and I know my mother and I would love to spend the time with them. Too soon they will be caught up in marriage kids and careers.

  45. Lois M. says:

Ooh, I saw someone mention Stephen Hawking! :) Cool! :) As for me though, given this is the moment I saw this posting — I’ll be happy to invite the person that will get rid of my hiccups, thank you very much… sigh.

    Lois

    1. CateS says:

Teaspoon of sugar under your tongue…

    2. LSUReader says:

I just read this on Yahoo Health…hope it works!

Take the deepest breath you can, hold it for 10 seconds, then, without exhaling, suck in more air and hold it for five more seconds. Finally–still without exhaling!–breathe in as much more air as you can squeeze in, hold for another five seconds, and exhale. Then breathe normally. This technique immobilizes the diaphragm (the muscle at the base of your lungs), preventing the spasms. Luc Morris, M. D., and his colleagues at the New York University School of Medicine tested the method on 30 patients who were prone to frequent hiccups. “It worked immediately on everyone who could do it,” he says.

  46. Cindy C. says:

My mother in law and Godmother who both passed years ago but I still miss them. And my great niece who is the light of my life. She was born long after her Nannie passed but my mother-in-law would have adored her.

  47. CateS says:

My two sisters and my mom…

  48. Liz V. says:

My parents and brother, as I miss them still.

  49. Nitty says:

Well, since there’s no alcohol at this table I suppose I would have to invite people who could make me laugh — a lot ;) So my BFF, Dee, Ellen DeGeneres and Melissa McCarthy.

  50. TinaF says:

My mother, she passed 5 years ago.
My maternal grandmother, she passed 30 years ago.
And my paternal grandmother, she passed when my dad was 15 and none of us got to meet her.

  51. Nancy says:

My family would fill out the table perfectly. We rarely sit down and chat any more and I would love to just sit and talk – not text!

  52. Kimh says:

    My dad
    mom
    grandpa
    great week godess who thanks

  53. Michelle K says:

    Winston Churchill
    Henry VIII
    Richard III
it would be interesting to talk about England has changed over time!

  54. Suzy Wilson says:

Who is with me would depend on where the tea is located. As I have always said to my teenage daughters that if there is ever enough money I would take them to Great Britain, it would be the two girls, and most likely my son would join us.

If it was here in America (maybe in Charleston, South Carolina) I would catch up with a couple old work friends who were significant in my life, but who then moved away from Michigan (one to Arizona and the other Texas) and then my best friend who hung out with all of them.

  55. Michelle Bledsoe says:

I would have my daughter, my mom, and my mother-in-law. We wouldn’t be there long before we got thrown out though…lol

  56. Cheryl R says:

Since it looks like a ladies tea, I would cheat and have my mom, 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters..then imagine more tables with close cousins, their daughters and granddaughters and perhaps fill the room with friends…the perfect ladies lunch

  57. LSUReader says:

My guest list: Jesus Christ, Queen Elizabeth I and George Washington.

Thanks for a fun week, Goddesses.

  58. Glittergirl says:

If I could invite any 3?…hum…

    Karen Ranney, author extraordinaire
Zina, blogger from Seawitch Review from the bookshelf
Karen Hawkins, another awesome author whose books I adore

and because he can’t be left out…our “server” would be Nathan Fillian to provide inspiration and humor ;-)

  59. Vanessa says:

Happy Anniversary Week! I would invite my grandmothers for afternoon tea.

  60. donna ann says:

my sister & my niece cause when any of us are together laughter is likely to ensue ;) then for added fun perhaps one of the lovely goddess who all so witty & seem like would be fun to hang out with. Perhaps Ms Hawkins, we could help her pick out pics for FROS (such hard work, but I’m sure we could manage to endeavor) :)

Once again, Happy Anniversary to The Goddess Blogs and all the ladies involved! looking forward to more mayhem, err, fun in the coming year :)

  61. DaisyLady says:

If I only had three places to fill I would invite my it sister who needs a break from reality, her daughter which is my niece who is a very lovely, intelligent women, and my own daughter who enlivened any room and conversation with her effectiveness and efforvecence for life. I enjoy my family most of all. I have wonderful friends that I would have to invite the next time. We, as a family, just don’t take the time to get together enough. Too much life gets in the way.

  62. Vickie P says:

My mother (who’s in a nursing home) and my two (deceased) grandmas!

  63. JanieC says:

I would invite Jon Stewart, Agatha Christie and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

  64. Marcy Shuler says:

I would invite Cryna, Pat and Kim. These are three of my online friends that I’ve never met and probably never will meet. So it’s fun to imagine the four of us having a real chat in person.

  65. Beth Annie says:

Marie Force, Lorelei James & Julie James- some of my favorite authors.

  66. Minna says:

I’d invite my best friend. We haven’t seen each other face to face in ages.

  67. Trish McNeil says:

My Mom, my daughter Angi and my friend Marge. We all love the same books and have like tastes in foods. We could eat, sip tea and talk books long into the afternoon. What a treat that would be.

  68. Shirley Cochran says:

I think Oprah as she is facinating; Kate Middleton to give her a break from the crowds who want to use her position for their own gain; and Michelle Obama to give her a break from the pressures of being First Lady.

  69. Paula says:

tough one it would be either my friend Julie who is my rock and is such a good friend, My friend Lin who has been a saviour this last week and my friend Sarah who has been through such tough times these last five years but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.
Or it would be HRH the Queen who is an amazing person, and both my grandmothers who ahve sadly both passed away.

  70. JeanMP says:

That is a tough question, I would probably want to invite my mother and my grandmothers(all deceased)

  71. Tracey says:

I could just imagine the scene; sounds so lovely right now especially since it’s so cold out here. I’d say I would love to have my daughter and twin sons there. She’s 28 and they’re 25; with lives of their own. I can’t remember the last time just the three of us spent time together. Therefore, it would be ideal to have that special time with my three awesome children.

  72. Quilt Lady says:

My two sister’s and my best friend Bebe! We would to add a little spike to the tea to add to the fun.

  73. Pamiam says:

I would love to have my mom and grandmother who have both been gone a long time and my daughter so they could both see her all grown up.
If they had to be living it would be my daughter, daughter in law and my son. The setting would be a little different though. A Campfire and chairs would be the setting for us.

  74. CrystalGB says:

My mother and my maternal grandparents. I miss them so much since they have passed away.

  75. erinf1 says:

Thanks for the fun post and giveaway! I’d have to say My mom, my grandmothers and my BFF Stephanie :)

  76. Barbara Elness says:

I’d want my two good friends Helga and Chris and my sister Raelene. We’d have a wonderful time. Of course, I’d have to fly to California in order for us all to get together.

  77. chey says:

I’d invite my sister, cousin and aunt.

  78. Elaine C. says:

I’d love to share this fabulous tea with my closest friends back in Michigan. I miss them very much. They are probably why I’ve missed Michigan every day since I moved to Florida seven years ago.

  79. pjpuppymom says:

My three best friends. We live in different states now and don’t get to see one another nearly often enough.

Thanks for a great anniversary week, Goddesses!

  80. Carla C says:

My grandmother and two of her sisters. I was raised by my grandparents and love my great aunts. They are “spicy”, funny, have their very own wit and wisdom (which sometimes causes a little sibling rivalry at their age — which is very amusing). I know that when it came to having tea, they would definitely bring something to the table, and they are wonderful cooks. My time is precious with them and I know that a little tea session would be nice to celebrate them.

  81. bn100 says:

    Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, friend

  82. Vickie B. says:

My mom and my daughters. It would be great to spend time together.

  83. Bonnie says:

I would invite my three best friends from college. We live in different parts of the country and don’t get to see each other very often. Congratulations on your 6th anniversary! Thanks for the great giveaway.

  84. Debbie says:

Richard Armitage, my sister, and my best friend

  85. Judy, Judy, Judy says:

3 is hard because I’m definitely not going to pass up a chance to meet Barbara Samuel Oneal but I would also like to meet some strictly online friends and it’s hard to pick just 2.

  86. Lenore says:

Jane Austen, Henry James and Edith Wharton. I would dish up tea and pass the cakes and listen, listen, listen!

  87. Janie McGaugh says:

My three best friends from high school, two of whom now live in other countries.

  88. Tammy S. says:

I would invite my bestfriend who lives out of state!

    Thanks for the great week!

  89. LouisaCornell says:

This has been a great week! I wish we could have a giant tea party with all of the Goddesses and the entire TGB gang! Now THAT would be a party. We’d be lucky if nobody called the cops!

Hmmm. If I could invite three people no longer with us it would be Jane Austen, Gandhi, and my Nana. I’d want to know what Jane thinks of this genre she set in motion. I’d want to know how to acquire Gandhi’s wisdom and patience with the human race. My Nana gave me my first typewriter when I was nine because I told her I wanted to be a writer. I’d want to tell her I’m still working on it and to thank her for being the first person to believe in me.

Living people? Gerard Butler, Richard Armitage, and Hugh Jackman. Don’t know how much tea would get drunk, but it would definitely be a party!

  90. E.R. says:

Oooh, the last day of TGB anniversary. Sad but bittersweet.

Anyway, the three ideal ones I would want to have with me at the table are:

    Christine Feehan

    Kate Middleton

The Pioneer Woman (whose name I forgot)

For the ideal ones who had past, I would want to have with me at the table are:

My Foreparents & Virgin Mary or Maria Salome.

  91. Angie e says:

Both of my Grandmothers and my sweetheart :) it would be ideal for me

  92. Zina says:

Well I live on the East Coast and my family lives on the West Coast so we see each other every few years or more. But I would need to Squeeze in a few more chairs. As my family knows there is always room at my table for more.
I would invite my mother, my sister, my daughter all from the west and my other two daughters and 2 granddaughters from RI, then my three daughters that still live at home for a 4 generation tea party. My mom has only seen her great-granddaughters once.
    Z

  93. ladydawgfan says:

Queen Elizabeth II (I find her fascinating)
My Grandma Signe (passed away, but I miss her)
And while those to completely ignore me while they chat away,
filling the other seat is Karen Hawkins so that we can discuss books and such.

  94. Vanessa says:

    Happy Anniversary!
Only four people… I am thinking that ideally I would expand the table and have everyone!!
Okay, I will give you four… you said anyone, so I am going for people who are no longer with us; so Hannah Senesh, Karol Wotija, my Tante Reska, and my Grandpa Doug.

  95. Vanessa says:

Ooh, I guess that might be 1 too many if there are only four places… that would have left me out… so to make the party even, add me and my mother (I have 2 so, the one who raised me)… I still cannot help but go over the amount ;)

  96. Serenissima says:

    Happy Anniversary!

I would invite Rachel Gibson, Lisa Kleypas and Anna Campbell. Oh, what a teaparty we could have. Though I don´t know how many words I could speak amongst these superladies…

  97. Laurie G says:

I would invite Michelle Obama. I love her compassion, intelligence and sense of humor. She is a wonderful role model for woman today.

  98. cail says:

I love throwing dinner parties! I don’t know how I could possibly limit it to just 3 guests! Usually I’d say me, my DH and two of our very good friends.

  99. MaryC says:

I’d invite my BFF – our get-togethers are rare due to distance.

  100. Kathleen O says:

I would have all my BFF*s, but I could not just have 3, as I have 7 gal pals who go every were together…

  101. Chelsea B. says:

Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, and Georgette Heyer. Oh, yes I did!

  102. Jeanne Miro says:

Thanks to all the Goddesses for a wonderful week of finding out more about all your books!

As I’m sitting here drinking my cuppa Earl Grey Tea I’m intrigued by my guests that are gracing my table.

The first to arrive was Cervantes and oh the questions I have to ask him about how he first came up with the idea of writing Don Quixote is a long list! To think of all the romance writers he inspired without realizing what his story would lead to all these years later.

Of course Georgette Heyer had quite a lot to question him about when she arrived and when you all sent Sabrina to ask all of your questions she had quite a list! I’m sure that she’ll be contacting you all soon and filling you in with all the on dits she heard!

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Week because you made all of ours a fun affair that won’t be forgotten!
